Why do you continue to cite $8M+/year contracts to compare to your suggestion that Knies sign for $4M/year?
These situations are not remotely similar...
The most recent "Comparable" you can think of was signed almost 6 years ago? There are plenty of examples of lower AAV deals, those are just the ones that came to mind. Many of them are dmen, but the point remains. I guess the most recent comparable I can think off the top of my head is Konecny at 5.5

Nevermind that Konecny signed for $1.5M more than you suggested for Knies, for 2 years less than you suggested for Knies, under a salary cap $11M lower than what it was projected to be at the time you made that suggestion.
Konecny's contract is not remotely close to the 8 x $4M you were suggesting for Knies lmao.
Ok. I don't really care that much man. You have your issues with the Leafs so I get it. Just vibing over here.
Here it is, and ya he wasn’t doing an 8 year deal at that money. Like most said if that money it’s a bridge.I love how you get confronted with a counterpoint and when you can no longer argue the point you retreat to your "You're just a Leaf hater" shield.
For the record, Knies wouldn't sign that contract you suggested with 31 other teams, either.
It's not Leafs hate. You just made a ridiculous and ignorant contract suggestion.
During an episode of 32 Thoughts the Podcast released Monday, co-host Kyle Bukauskas touched on the fact that Knies wore an ‘A’ during Saturday night’s preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens and asked Friedman why he felt that was significant.
“I’m wondering if they’re going to sign him. I think Knies is on the precipice of being a really long-term, important piece of the Toronto Maple Leafs,” Friedman said. “He’s heading into the last year of his ELC and I think...
The ignorance level is off the charts with this one.Stramel is one of the worst 1st round drafted prospect that I can think of.
He has tanked his value since going R1 in 2023
Knies is ahead of Jiricek who struggled and got moved out once already.
Not interested in this trade
Seems like youre underselling Knies a bit, since hes on pace to have 50+ points and potentially 30 goals in his second season.I think OP is banking heavily on the fact that Knies is established and Jiricek and Stramel aren't, but giving up a C prospect and potential top 4 (maybe top pair) RD prospect like Jiricek for a 50 point winger isn't smart asset management.
You can not like the trade but you don't need to downplay Knies to do it. He is 22 years old playing at a 30+ goal pace and 58 points over 82 games with most of the production coming at even strength.I think OP is banking heavily on the fact that Knies is established and Jiricek and Stramel aren't, but giving up a C prospect and potential top 4 (maybe top pair) RD prospect like Jiricek for a 50 point winger isn't smart asset management.
Jiricek will probably be in the playoff roster if OP trade goes through. McCabe - Tanev as shutdown pair and Rielly - Jiricek. Jiricek should be better than Timmins or Myers...... Leafs already have Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Tavares etc.... Moving forward asset for defence should be the way to go, let the 4 big worry about offenseWon’t comment on value, but Leafs won’t trade Knies for futures, need him for the playoffs.
It’s a nice idea to trade Knies for a rhd with top pairing upside, but in the short term (playoffs specifically), the Leafs would be taking a step back and that’s not the kind of trade they will be making. We already know the core 4 need some support, Tavares is mid 30s and Marner could walk. It could take Jiricek a few more years to hit his stride and by then Matthews contract will be expiring.Jiricek will probably be in the playoff roster if OP trade goes through. Not that hes guaranteed to hit those numbers but "a 50 point winger" is a bit of an understatement when you consider hes 22 and 6'3 230 lbs and gritty.
That's not talking about your prospects at all either, just saying I think you're simplifying the return Minny gets, a tad.

What about what I said makes you feel that way? I specifically said I felt like you were "underselling him", not that you were attacking him.I get he's your guy and you feel like I was attacking him or whatever
