This is a bizarre proposal. Leafs need more Kniesesses, not less. They're right in a window here, and Knies is exactly the sort of player that you hope shows up bigtime in the playoffs.

From an outsiders point of view it makes no sense for the Leafs. Now I will give the OP credit and say that the value is fair going each way.

Leafs have Marner and Tavares both as upcoming UFAs. They do have the potential to lose both of them. I would have to think that the Leafs will be all in for the playoffs this year. With this trade it would be like taking a step backwards to go a step forwards later on.

Plus if the Leafs happen to lose Marner and Tavares, then they go and trade away Knies they are losing half of their top six forwards. It makes no sense.

Not a big volume shooter, scores most of his goals from in tight. It’s still high but it’s not outrageous for that type of player.
I get what you're saying but I'm not sure that one of the highest shooting percentages in the league is sustainable. We had Foligno go through a two year period (2020-2022) where he had a really high shooting percentage. His shooting percentage is still decently high at 17-18% the last two seasons. Somewhere in the 17-20% seems likely for Knies IMO.

Why would the Leafs trade a young top 6 forward for a couple of futures going into the playoffs? You can't overstate how much their window is now.
