I don't think Martin is a better player than Cizikas, I know Martin is a better player than Cizikas.

I think you severely underestimate Cizikas. I believe he is Nielsen 2.0.

Please bookmark this so we can revisit next spring and see how wrong one of us was.

I love Martin on the Leafs. Would have been better if it was a 3X2 but close enough. We didn't sign Stamkos, so the cap isn't really an issue. Martin isn't your regular 4th liner, he can actually do stuff. Plus, if anyone takes a run at our, "sweethearts" big Matt Martin, good ole Windsor Ontario boy will sort them out.

Yeah better bring back Colton Orr too. Lets get Luke Schenn on the blue line while we're at it. This way of thinking is so outdated. Do his extra couple of hits a game really make him that much better than Leivo or Leipsic?

Leivo and Leipsic should either get a role on the 3rd line or higher or stick in the AHL. Giving them 4th line minutes is a waste.

I love Matty Marts, I wish the Islanders could have brought him back. But he was the 3rd best player on that line.... that line was driven by Clutterbuck and Cizikas. I honestly hope TO fans give him a fair shake, he's a great guy and a hero around here.... I'd hate to see a city turn him into the villian like Clarkson because someone over paid him or thought he was something he wasn't.

Given the first look at his stats (negative career plus / minus every year except last season when it was a slight plus (+2), limited offensive, high number of hits, averaging around 1.5 minutes a game penalty wise) I'm worried about this signing. Do the leafs need a big d man who hits and has limited offense. I don't know.

Right?

So do you guys think we can count on Martin getting us a few wins backing up Andersen? Hoping he can provide at least 10 wins and hover around .910sv%.

I don't get people up in arms of this. I like the signing and 2.5 M is nothing. Great fit for the Leafs.

He was top 10 in corsi against in the whole league last year. He's not just a 4th liner who doesn't suck.

Corsi and a hybrid energy checking line role... I don't think they are a good match. The only concern you should have is that the Isles stuck him in a role focused entirely on hitting. He has hands, but they never really explored development that way. He scored in Jr's enough to show he has more than 4th line puck sense.

It's not like he signed a massive lucrative contract. Toronto loves their tough blue collar guys. As long as he puts up the kind of numbers he did with the Islanders, Leafs nation will love him.

I think it's a fine contract for what he brings. That's just the going rate now. Will definitely inject some experience and physical play into that lineup.

We needed Sydney Esiason to replace Elisha Cuthbert.

In all seriousness I don't really mind this signing and I honestly think he's a better player than people give him credit for. He's not your typical useless goon, he has some hockey sense.
