Tough, and an adequate hockey player. Good signing.

Let's not overhype the deal. He's a 4th line player (not a borderline 3rd as someone said), who hits everything in sight, and doesn't suck. Nothing bad about that. Great team guy (not hyperbole). Players will love him even more than the fans. But he's a 4th liner for a reason, and will not be a difference maker. Fair contract that won't hurt the team, so it's all good, but don't expect more than you see.

He was top 10 in corsi against in the whole league last year. He's not just a 4th liner who doesn't suck.

I just saw this and it bums me out. You guys just got a good locker room presence and a heart and soul guy who sucks to play against.

He will become a fan favorite in short order. Treat him well!

I like this deal. My favourite thing about this deal is he is still 27. Most guys like him come in the 30s, still has some mileage left.

Leafs fans that are outraged at this signing need to give their head a shake. Sure it may be a slight over payment and maybe a year too long but the leafs arent going to be in a cap crunch anytime soon. May not like it, but outraged? Cmon boys...

so you live him unprotected in the expansion draft, smart move by the leafs IMO

2.5 mil how are ppl freaking over that ?

most of the leaf young players are on ELC, Kradi & Reilly have been signed , Greening , MM ,BL, we will be coming off the books next year (if i remember correctly), so we have enough cap space

As for 4 years, its not bad , no one on the leafs will need a major increase those years, most of our players will be coming of ELC in 2-3 years so those 2 extra year(max) at 2.5 will not hurt , its not like leafs went out sign someone to 6-7 years @ 6mil +

Beside we do need bodies to play , as much as some here think rookies will come and take over, a lot of them will need time to develop , except the rare few

A product of his linemates and their hyperagressive forechecking. What was his corsi before that line clicked?

He drives play better than anyone else did on that crazy good 4th line. May not have put up the same amount of points as the other two, but he was the main reason that line was always in the offensive zone no matter the competition. Glad he's out of the metro.

Not too bad of a deal for TO. They didn't overspend on him in my opinion and it's only for two years for the Leafs He could bring good leadership too for the young kids.

Cizikas' corsi drops off a cliff when he's on the ice without Martin.

And that's who the Islanders gave a big deal to instead of Martin. Suits me just fine.

Proving corsi doesn't actually mean much in the real world. If you think Martin is a better hockey player than Cizikas because he had better corsi, you're delusional.

Great signing for Toronto, thought Martin would get more than 2.5.

Leading hitter in the NHL for 4 years, will likely hit 10 goals in an expanded role, and played on the best 4th line in the game. Leafs will have a boat load of rookies next year, they're going to need a professional to guide them through the motions, not to mention for protections sake.

Leaf fans love these players (Orr, Domi, Tucker), he'll be a fan favourite in no time.

It's not as if 2.5 is hard to shed in a WCS either.

So you're saying that he was just a passenger on that line? Spin doctors outta control on this site.

Not at all what I said. That line clicked perfectly and Martin was very much a part of it. But he wasn't the main reason for its success.

I don't think Martin is a better player than Cizikas, I know Martin is a better player than Cizikas.
