Bit of a strange deal. Ironically Malgin played best on a grind line with Kampf/ZAR, providing them the transition ability to exit the zone on their numerous d-zone starts.

Obviously they're looking for a different element with Hunt. However, I'm a bit worried for any GM on the opposite end of a trade call with COL these days. Clearly they don't see much in Hunt.

Not sure how much more of a look or opportunity they could give Malgin.. and with Jarnkrok coming back they probably did him a solid to try to find a job elsewhere. Clearly they don’t see him as a long term fit going forward so they added defensive depth that could clear waivers and be a potential call up.

Dryden is a hitter, I like that. We need more playoff type players. Hopefully this works out better than we can expect.

He shouldn't be in a playoff lineup ideally.

And if he is, it should be for ZAR, who is a better version of him.

This trade reeks of 'Dubas didn't want to waive Malgin cause it'd make the Marchment deal worse than it already does'.
This is the return...for a guy who was playing on our 2nd line o_O

Dont care how much I get roasted but a physical guy that finishes every check and plays responsibly defense, can skate and drop the gloves when really needed at 6'0 200lbs is a bonus as we do not have hardly any that makes opponents pay the price in corners or carrying the puck. I for one am happy to finally get some guys of this ilk that can play decent and be nasty to play against. The big dollar guys have to find a way to procuce the offense in post season vs getting shut down continually that is the reason they get paid same reason we get 1st round exits

don't mind this

malgin 5'9 often loses puck battles near the boards and is a RFA with arbitration rights after this season

Hunt 6'0, no idea abut his play but he is a UFA after this season; 16K more expensive than malgin

am gonna guess he will go to LW with tavares-marner; Kampf line has been pretty good lately so they wont mess with it.

Malgin's defensive game was lacking; he was basically chasing chicken in the defensive zone; hopefully Hunt is better and can hold on to pucks for cycle in the O-zone. TBD

Funny thing is I dont even know if Hunt is actually going to get in the lineup. Knowing how the leafs operate, they probably thought Hunt is less likely to get claimed on Waivers than Malgin and really just want to get Joey Anderson some run.

Leafs dont like players who can hit

Moving Malgin was a bit of a dick move but people are going to need to learn to like Hunt.

I'd say there's little to no chance Hunt plays with Tavares-Marner.

If he gets into the lineup, it's likely on the same line as ZAR with either Holmberg or Kampf centering.

So we waived NAK to trade for another NAK? I guess this gives Malgin an opportunity to be productive elsewhere. But doesn’t do anything for us.

Its a nothing deal really...... Malgin was given a opportunity and other guys stepped up above him. Dubas probably just decided to give him another chance to another team and get something in return instead of just waving him. Hunt will probably be put down in the AHL tho.....who knows...

I have no idea what kind of player Hunt is......does he kill penalties?

both marginal players but Hunt tracks better defensively. fits the pattern of recent bottom 6 moves Dubas has been making...while defence is no more or less important than offence, it is undeniably cheaper on the cap to acquire.

to me personally I'd prefer our bottom six not leak goals. Priority 1 for them is to give us safe minutes; not get scored on; and if they score thats GOLD. Ideally we get depth scoring but bottom six should not be leaking goals; just adds too much pressure on the top 6 to score additional goals IMO

All this talk about finally getting some size and grit for the bottom 6, all for Hunt to be waived tomorrow.

Was funny reading some posters attempt to serve crow after Malgin locked down a 12/13th forward spot.

This was inevitable. Guys like Malgin look hot in the pre-season, but don't dress in the playoffs. Most saw this coming.

Unfortunate that we had to trade a guy like Marchment for "skill", only to trade that skill for a replacement level checker. All over the place.
Blows my mind our professional scouts got the Malgin / Marchment trade as wrong as they did.

Kampf line has been decent, breaking that line up to put either engvall or kerfoot on the LW with tavares-marner would not be good. Kampf line has chemistry they should stick together

Until Jonkrok is back, I'd suspect either hunt plays with JT-Marner or one of anderson/zar moves on the LW on the JT line

Well, atleast Hunt is more likely to contribute than Suomela. Unfortunately, I think Malgin flourishes like Barabanov.

We added 3" in height, gotta be a win for a lot of folks around here.

At least we get a guy who's not going to be totally miscast now.

Jarnkrok is playing tomorrow. He slotted in with Marner/Tavares at practice today.

Dubas got his Nicolas Aube-Kubel back, lite version.

Any player that plays 76 games in 2021-22 and 28 games so far this year with good NHL teams is a NHL player.
Maybe just a guy, but has experience and is 4th line insurance.

But if he can do the below twice a month we will love him.

Anyone that beats the F outta bruin is a A-OK with me :thumbu:

oh he is back? nice!

I guess Anderson will go back down then depending on cap
