Malgin play for the Av's yet?
Yup, played yesterday in an Avs 2-1 win over the Canadians but didn't get on the scoresheet.

So far for those keeping score at home its still 0-0 in the most recent trade.

Marchment did have a pair of assists for Dallas yesterday and is on pace for 22 goals and 51 points on the season.

What a waste.

Looking forward to seeing Hunt tonight, hope to get some good energy in the bottom 6.

You guys butthurt over Marchment need to get over it. It's getting a bit pathetic at this point.

Leafs GM Gord Stellick traded Russ Courtnall for John Kordic back in 1989 and I still haven't gotten over it, :wg: The lopsidedness of the original Marchment for Malgin rivals this one.

Leafs traded a player Mason Marchment that has produced 120 games 29 goals 50 assists 79 points ----> Denis Malgin 31 games 2 goals 2 assists 4 points ----> Dryden Hunt who after being claimed off waivers has produced in 28 games 2 goal 0 assists and 2 points. That is not all that easy to let go !!

Just think of the possibilities of different the Leafs top 6 would look with Marchment patrolling LW with either Matthews & Nylander or Tavares and Marner. He would provide the main missing ingredient from the top 6 and that is push back ability and protection and grit. Leafs are still looking for that top 6 winger that they believed they could turn Malgin into, but they dealt him away for him instead.

Instead of TB Lightning D Sergachev fined $5K for slash on Leafs F Bunting, he would have been picking up the front row of his teeth off the ice after Marchment would have evened the score.

Now instead the Leafs are bottom filling with the 12th/13th forward in Dryden Hunt. The hope being he is more useful then Malgin was (which shouldn't be hard), but the bar has been set pretty low now.

Context, Courtnall went home and refused to play for the team. This had seldom happened publicly in the league at this point. Leafs' coach Brody wanted a goon. Kordic was one of the better face punchers at the time. Not a good trade but it never was going to be, given the circumstances.

Time to let go and move on.

We lost out on 1 47 point season from Marchment 2 years after he was shipped out. It sucks and is annoying we lost that trade. However, it should be pointed out that Marchment went UFA and so his time with Dallas has nothing to do with the trade, and we would never be able to fit him under the cap. Stating his numbers with Dallas is disingenuous at best.

Not all trades you win, and Dubas has won far more than he's lost.

Not to mention even if he had his breakout on the Leafs he still wouldn't be on this years Leafs team lol
Correct, it was a nothing trade then and it's a nothing trade now. Florida has no assets from that trade today, and we have a 4th line energy player. If Marchment had broken out here, Dallas would still have signed him and Marchment would be added to the same list as Hyman, Mikheyev, etc.

Hunt isn't playing today

Another sequence of Hunt not being afraid of douchebag Bruins players.

Jumps in and goes after McAvoy after he hit Fox from behind

Even that's a stretch to say. That came after Marchment had already hit UFA status in 2021. What Marchment had while he would have been under our team control was 2 AHL points and 12 NHL points. We don't know if he would have wanted to re-sign here, or if we would have even wanted to re-sign him. And even if we did, he's likely not picking up as many free points here.

And as you correctly point out, his time in Dallas has nothing to do with anything. Everybody had an opportunity to sign him.

Yeah, I suppose the best way to think about it, is we lost out on 1 year of a value contract where he scored 47 points and probably could have made a difference in our run last year.

That said, many fans seem to forget that non-core players that produce and are pending UFA are not going to be signable in the flat-cap era on this team. We need cost-controlled players otherwise they are useless to us. Even Hyman had to go. That one hurts most of all...

Leafs fans are really critical of a league minimum player like malgin :/

Edut: sorry i thought it was the thread in trade and rumors

To me this is a who cares trade .. 2 crap players with different 4th line styles .. da bigger issue was BRUTAL trade of Mason for Malgin to begin with .. if you watched enough Marlie games like I did back then it was freakin obvious .. but with Dubie eye test means very little clearly .. oh well it was overall BRUTAL but you have to expect this from non hockey guys

Dude I am as season ticket holder from day 1 .. I have even been to several road games in upper state NY when my son was also playing .. his skating to you non hockey people who watch excel spreadsheets instead of games at rink was getting much better as he developed .. and in practice he was doing very well in da sprints as he has always had a long stride but it took a little time for him to work on his hip extensions .. but we all saw it Barb did a very good job with Mason as he worked to extend his hip to strengthen his stride and have more more time on his outer edge .. anyways I should not get upset as you guys are spreadsheet guys not guys who have spend their lives on a rink or developing kids up to da show .. guys like Dubas have zero idear about skating and how long it takes for a big man to develop his skating stride .. it is why spreadsheet analytics guys will never figure it out .. they are just not close enough to game to understand da technical details and worse even understand when a kid is developing properly or not .. too much emphasis on points etc .. ps he figured out nothing in Florida .. Barb(TO) did all da work
Were you this upset at the time of the Malgin/Marchment trade? I don't recall you having anything to say like the above at the time.

It's easy years later to make comments like this with the help of hindsight.

It's pretty easy to find the Malgin/Marchment trade thread, perhaps a stroll down memory lane is needed.
