Confirmed with Link: [TOR/CHI] G Petr Mrazek & 25th Overall Pick to CHI for 38th Overall Pick

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Blackhawks GM is a true rookie. Sens ripped him off .. that's how you know he's inexperienced. Good on Dubas to pounce to fix his mistake.

Dropping back 13 spots is better than giving a 2nd or 3rd rounder next year outright.

Mrazek probably rebounds to his career norms next year. But that’s still not what the Leafs need, need a steadier goalie.

The difference between the 25th pick and the 38th pick is rather negligible, especially in a draft like this, and especially when you don't have a specific target that will only be available at 25. Indications are that our targets were taken before 25, and that we'll be able to pick somebody at 38 that is high on our list and is in the same tier of prospect as what we would have got at 25.

Traditionally there are often times where quality picks fall out of the first round or go late 1st, early 2nd. 1st come 1st serve.

Some organizations have a higher hit rate in this range at picking winners than others.

I don't know who Dubas and his staff had on the table, if you do please let me know.

Time honored HFBoards tradition of reviewing the 2022 draft in 4-5 years time will be interesting.

There is a reason this guy dropped so far down. Anything is possible but most likely all the scouts that soured on him are not wrong.

Most scouts soured on Lilly as well. Scouts also soured on Saad when he was ranked top 10 the year before. Same with Forsberg and Barzal

we will see in time. The player we pick may turn out to be better and a star but as of today he was one of the best pick available

Unless there is a wink, wink, nudge, nudge deal with the Leafs, why would you bail out a team desperate to dump Mrazek for the right to move up 13 spots ?? Perhaps it is his way of apologizing for leaking the Fluery talks with the Leafs. Maybe they send us a Connor Hutton today.

I don’t agree with the equivalent system. If Chicago called leafs up and said hey we want to move your from 38 to 25. We will add a 7th. Leafs say no to that. That system is flawed.

For the price of moving down 13 spots and they take Mrazek I’ll take that!

One perhaps lesser considered benefit of this move would be with Mrazek now out, IF the Leafs go down the Murray path, I’m not really saying whether they should or shouldn’t do so, but IF they do, we can actually squeeze Ottawa now to retain 50% and probably get an asset back in the deal as well. Whereas before we would have been relying on them taking Mrazek and still adding 2.5 mil, which was obviously a nonstarter.

My preference would still be to hope for an Ottawa buyout and scoop him up cheap if we were getting him

Nah. We still have a serviceable middle 6 forward on the roster, who is likely to be moved for more assets. Barrie was viewed as exactly what we needed, it's just too bad he didn't work out.

I think there was a fair bit of contention regarding Barrie. Didn't someone on the coaching staff not even want him?

Small price to pay to get out of a huge blunder. My problem is the number of blunders.

Off the top of my head:

Sparks (garbage)
Hutch (more garbage)
Rittich (seriously a 3rd?)
Barrie (just puked)
Ceci
Foligno (so much worse than losing this year's first)
Malgin (could not resist this smurf)
Petan (tiny mistake)
McCann (sorry he is better than Kerfoot and Holl)
Anderson (yeah he is going to play soon)
Kapanen (waiting for somebody to replace him)
Jumbo (waste of time and they started him on the first line and needed to sit in the playoffs)
Vesey (seriously ??)
Ritchie (everybody knew Ritchie's rep but how does 2x2.5 sound ??)
Mrazek (you gave the Canes' sloppy second's 3x3.8m ??)

You can do the math wrt the players we have let walk for nothing because we have been in cap hell since this guy took over.

End of rant. Now find us a f'n goalie that can stay healthy and play.

Yeah my criticism would be the entire sequence of signing, disposal and the general careless promotion. Just feels like our assets need to be handled with more care.

Yeah the head coach. SMH.

So were Ritchie and Mrazek.

The situation in net isn't looking great. Going to have to overpay for someone and might just be the guy that hasn't been able to get it done for us in two playoff runs.

Got out of Mrazek's contract. But probably can't manage to really improve the situation in net.

Always looking at only the negatives is a good way to always be angry.

Agreed, but on this day in the context of Hockey Futures there's nothing to discuss. We did not draft in the 1st round again.

Question of the day:

Will Dubas trade TOR's 2nd round pick?

No one will give 2 sh*ts .. Dubie is half way there now .. he eliminated Petr problem OMG he sucks bad .. and if he ends up with Beck da draft will be a huge success .. Gibson added later today would be cherry on top .. if those events all occur today then Leafs win this draft over Habs who had a great day 1
