This is exactly the point. Why are people getting bent out of shape about giving up a pick that most likely will be lucky to equal Noesen 5 years from now. We are well past the building stage and into the win now stage. Foligno helps us in now and the mystery box help rebuilding teams. Teams like we used to be.
Agree fully, we got the definition of big and aggressive who in past also put the puck in the net. I think we got the best available player for our needs

If you're not gonna push all in now, then whats the point? Next year its back to Tampa, Boston and now a much better Florida in our division. The road will never be easier than it is now. This is a move you have to make, a pick that won't be relevant till 2025 at the earliest if it ever even amounts to anything, is not worth crying about losing. And the great news is we still might not even done yet...

1st round picks are like playing roll up the win, you’re hoping to get that new car that changes your life/team while lots of other prizes could come your way too. You’re not hoping to get a stale plain donut that’s a week old, which is what Noesen essentially is
the 1st we gave might not even be as good as Noesen, but we did get a big chew the puck in half big body ruff and tumble dude who could put the puck in the net and is a leader, who will be an asset come playoffs

I have a feeling Foligno will play in the top 6, don't think they paid a 1st rounder to upgrade the 3rd line
Then they'll quickly realize that isn't where he belongs.

Whether they think so or not, they just paid a 1st rounder to boost their third line.

Anyone that thinks he's just a 3rd liner is wrong.

This guy has led the BJ's forwards in toi for years, regular season and playoffs.

And those are also the toughest matchup minutes, and they're one of the best defensive teams in hockey.
And he adds a much needed physical presence.
Can’t take liberty’s with our top guys now.

And the 1st we gave is he a bonafide?
No, but the one we got back definitely isn't bonafide anything but AHL bound and then off to free agency, probably the KHL I would suspect.

Ya might wanna check your look on this one.....it ain't lookin very bright.

Pretty much.

Now tomorrow we can complain about a better deal that happens that we "should" have made. It's the HF way

ok, I guess time will tell but what I do know is we got a big man who brings physical and power and at one time had nice hands who when put in the right situation with our skilled guys could find that again as well. We needed some size and aggressive for the playoffs and imho he fits that bill
he's not big,,he is only 6 ft

I was super hyped when I heard this on the radio while driving .. Came to HFBoards and people shitting on the trade was such a buzzkill. jesus christ.

We're going all in. And it feels great. Who cares about the 30th overall pick in a CUP RUN year?

Especially in this uncertain draft with no Junior even being played. Not giving up a roster spot in this trade was a steal.

We have a GREAT mix of speed, skill and finally.... sandpaper.

GLG. Great trade.

Dubas knows is win now or pack your bags. A first rounder for a rental. Hope it's crud draft.

It's a very crud draft. I'd much rather lose a #1 this year than any of our top three prospects. Playing in this division it's time push your chips in the pot. The Leafs got playoff better and have their chips in the middle of the table. Shuffle up and deal.

If that was the only point he was trying to make then ok. I'm not even saying it was bad to trade the pick. But I can understand the questions if Foligno was the right target.

Sure, I can see where you are coming from with saying its ok to trade the pick.

But I was talking strictly about trade value. The pick is worth more, and its disingenous to say that they cancel each other out. They can't turn around and trade Noesen for another rental like Foligno. Maybe whoever they draft busts but right now that pick carries the value to make trades with, Noesen is worth nothing.

I think its more about who the 1st rounder got traded for
