Ya, why not run the whole stinking mess back for another decadeI would put the odds of the Leafs signing Tavares and Marner at something higher than 100%.
Just one day of a free for all……..I could get a few things off my chest. LolWe should have an HF Festivus. It would be a bloodbath for the mods.
That was total sales pitch BSRemember when MLSE had those plastic talking heads at the beginning of the season try to convince their fans that "big changes were coming" and, "we don't just want to sell jerseys"?
Remember that?
Remember how many of believed them? lol.
Nothing against JT but this team won't be making changes any time soon.
Another day, another slap in the face.
Maybe with that 7 million we could get a player that can help us win a cup…..in the playoffs.60 point players will cost 7m with the cap going up
Just a reality
I agree. I don't get why we need to re-sign guys before end of season unless we definitely want them to come back no matter what. I'm not opposed to having Tavares return, but I wish it would be at 5 million or lower and have him do the Leafs a small favor.I wouldn’t re-sign either JT or Marner until after the playoffs. If we get eliminated yet again in round 1, why keep running the same core year after year and expect different results.
13.16 x 8 Marner
7 X 3 Tavares
~45M out of 95.5M cap on big 4 = ~47%
~52.5M out of 95.5M cap on Big 4 + rielly = ~55%
Einstein did say the definition of insanity is to do the same things over and over and expect the same results, especially with the greatest core in league history.
I don't know if this reporting is true or not but it's been absolutely clear all along that MLSE is all-in on this core.
They did not wait last year for the playoffs to get Willie or AM signed, and they aren't waiting until the playoffs this year for JT or Mitch. It is, and always has been wishful thinking from fans that this organization is going to move on from this group if they keep failing. They haven't and they won't.
Aside from all that, earlier in the season I would've said 3x7 is pretty fair but I'm having second thoughts. I Like JT, he does bring a lot to the team but it feels to me like he's this close to dropping off a cliff contribution-wise, as in likely before the new deal's first year is done.
And of course, if this group flops again this year and have the Big 4 already extended, I mean, what is the point of even watching any more? 3+ more years minimum of first-round exits? I think Leaf Nation may just finally revolt.
Yup the cap rising is meaningless if we keep giving it all to the loser coreWe all knew Mitch wasn't leaving the second Shanny wasn't fired. I know some people hoped beyond hope, but if you search your feelings you knew it to be true. It's only a matter of how much he'll take.
Only way Mitch walks is if Mitch wants to. And it would be devastatingly bad asset management by the Leafs.
The tie in there was if Mitch takes the Leafs to the bank, how much is left for JT? $7M, while probably fair, still feels like a lot in the sense that despite the cap rising, it won't give us more wiggle room.
The most odd thing about this forum is the use of this quote. It's almost daily but the rest of the world stopped using it long ago - its like transporting back in time. And yeah, probably because it wasn't Einstein.Isn't that actually not an Einstein quote?
But it's sports, so insanity might just work!
But it's also the Leafs, and unfortunately the Leafs to maximum embarrassment ratio is an exact science.
I got a lotta problems with you people! We should have an HF Festivus. It would be a bloodbath for the mods.
We are running it back just like the Shanny clown show are running back the coreThe most odd thing about this forum is the use of this quote. It's almost daily but the rest of the world stopped using it long ago - its like transporting back in time. And yeah, probably because it wasn't Einstein.
