Remember when MLSE had those plastic talking heads at the beginning of the season try to convince their fans that "big changes were coming" and, "we don't just want to sell jerseys"?

Remember that?

Remember how many of believed them? lol.

Nothing against JT but this team won't be making changes any time soon.

Why can't it be 5. He won't go anywhere else.
He won't be playing at the age of 38.
Why don't the offer him 21 mil over 5 yrs.
All gms are like drunken sailors when the think the cap is going up a ton ..
We are only assured next season
We still need a 2nd line center or a 3rd that can play on the 2nd line if need be
Marner Knies needs a contract next yr
McMann needs a new contract the next yr
We still need a top pairing D.

With the shit that Trump is pulling off there is no guarantee that the cap will be as high as 110 mil in 3 yrs.

Dubas lesson I hope learned

Speed o speed why do they not get speed while all the serious contenders are skating circles around us
He's actually skating better this year than in previous years. His speed bursts above 20 mph are well above average: NHL EDGE Puck and Player Tracking Statistics - Skaters
Compare to Marner, who is barely above average: NHL EDGE Puck and Player Tracking Statistics - Skaters

His top speed isn't great but that stat is pretty irrelevant IMO. Marner is one of the highest in the league at 23.5 while Tavares is at 22.. it's a whopping 7% difference and also that's literally just once during the season. Acceleration is more important.

Of course the question is how is he going to keep up for 3 more years, and same with Marner who's younger but only really has excellent edges and agility, not so much explosiveness or acceleration.

he is saying 3 years at 5 mil... not 5 years at 7 mil

7x2 Id be more happy with. No way you will go less than that with the cap jumping up. I bet it will be front loaded so they can dump or Robidas him in the last year

If true, the cap hit would be between 6.2% and 7.3% of the cap, not horrid but wont age well.

Absolutely great news. This is fantastic. Just need to get Marner done now. I'd like to see John closer to 9mil tbh.
13.16 x 8 Marner

7 X 3 Tavares

~45M out of 95.5M cap on big 4 = ~47%

~52.5M out of 95.5M cap on Big 4 + rielly = ~55%

Einstein did say the definition of insanity is to do the same things over and over and expect the same results, especially with the greatest core in league history.

We n to d a different mix on our top 2 lines as
he is saying 3 years at 5 mil... not 5 years at 7 mil
Did you take the time to read what I said

Instead of 3 yrs at 21 mil spread it out over 5 yrs because this is probably his last contract

5 yrs at 21 mil

Yeah. But when has Einstein been a GM of an organization that, regardless of what they do, or how much effort they put into it, it just prints more money that they could ever imagine?

Signing this contract prior to the playoffs would be idiotic, and a bad signal for things to come. The first from Tre.

The dynamics of the JT negotiation aren't as comfortable as they were months ago - the center market is disconcerting and JT is having a good year - but still, I'll believe it when I see it.

It's about what Malkin was getting from the Pens + inflation. I'm fine with it unless one wants to prioritize culture change by breaking upon the core and he's be the logicial one to try first

Can they not turn it into $5.25 million per season over 4 years?

That's what I was expecting/ hoping for
