Confirmed Trade: [TOR/ANA] Bernier to Anaheim for conditional 2017 pick

Change of scenery will probably help Bernier. I'm okay with the signing, just wish we still had Freddie instead. :(

Shame he was never recognized for his talents in toronto ontario. He was the best goalie you guys had but was just never given the chance. This is a fantastic move by Anaheim and I'm sure he'll end up being the starter and put up great numbers there. And hey, maybe toronto ontario will be able to sign Russel to a long term mega dollars deal now?!

Never given the chance? Are you serious?

He was given the job on a platter and couldn't stop a beachball or kept getting injured. He couldn't even keep the net when the Leafs traded Reimer away and Sparks was the 'back up'.

Why do people make things up?

Bernier lacks the mental toughness to be a #1. He's a talented guy who is very sound technically but his mind just wanders during games and he can't stay focused. He also appeared to suffer from depression at times.

I would imagine that they'll add another d man before the start of the season. Russell is a possibility.

Jimmy Vesey is a possibility up front.

When he puts up better numbers it will be funny.

Are Leafs going for another tank? Garrett Sparks becomes #1 at 40 game mark, I predict

That would be an ideal scenario and would allow us to have a perennial contending core if we drafted the top #1 RD in next years draft.

I'm sadden in a way by this move. Bernier did not have a good year last year especially at the start. I was hoping the leafs would give him an opportunity to at least pay the role of a backup. Unfortunately it didn't work out.

I hope Bernier has wonderful success in Anaheim and thank him for his time in a leaf uniform.

This isn't a surprise - Babcock's not a fan of the 1AB tandem system; and he just expects whomever is in there to stop pucks. Anderson is good fit because he's a better goalie than Bernier which left Bernier as an unused option.

Bernier trade was a cap dump.

Hope he does well in ANA; but he was never going to get another shot here.

Man, I'm suddenly getting a bit scared for Freddie, given the overreaction of some Leafs fans to Bernier's mental lapses, because that has been the one noteworthy drawback of Andersen, himself. He's obviously never had it to the degree Bernier had for the first half of last season, but if some fans think that was a constant with Bernier before and after that timeframe, those people might be hard to please for Freddie.

Bernier played great down the stretch.

Sparks kept getting the nod to "get experience" (read: "so we could lose more")

i still think bernier has potential. Good trade for Anaheim as it's probably a mid round pick

You know you can just refer to this city as Toronto? No need to say Ontario behind it.

Just a tip from a guy who lives in the junction triangle, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, North America, Earth

I suppose he couldn't "keep the net" because his .920 SV% in the 2nd half of the season was interfering with the tank and Sparks was the better strategic choice with that goal in mind.

Having LouLam on your team is so unfair, it's like what needs to happen, Lou makes happen.

Good trade for the Leafs, should be funny seeing Carlyle, Nonis and Bernier together again, haha.

Bernier's value in this thread has sky rocketed since he is no longer a leaf....

It really hasn't. Large portions of the Leafs fanbase just had their heads huddled together and repeated how bad they think Bernier is for so long that they lost touch with the perception of the rest of the world.

I thought the Ducks had an internal cap. 9.1 left with Lindholm and Rakell to sign. Plus rounding out the rest of their roster
