Let it be known that anyone complaining about the deal, ie losing Hutch, would've likely complained had the org stood pat and said "Hutch is replacing Sanchez."

Also the same people who are complaining about Sanchez being shut down as a starter...who would likely also be the ones who would be first to cry if he got hurt.

Have to agree with you on this one.

Jays took on a contract to get a couple good prospects for Hutchinson, who has been nothing but a AAA pitcher this far.

And, if there is any catcher that can help Liriano get back to his game, it would be Russell Martin.

Liriano had a career year in 2013 with Martin catching him.

Not that I'm happy about trading for prospects at the deadline but at least this tells me they understand that Liriano is a longshot and not necessarily considered SP material.

Let's hope...although it is the Pirates pitching coach that turns careers around. Liriano was good last year without Martin.

Liriano sucks, hopefully he can turn it around.

If he doesnt, it would really suck to be stuck with his 13 mill on the books.

Hard guy to give up. I never thought he could be more than a 3-starter, but that's pretty good.

Feels like the Jays turned the page on him a few months ago.

I honestly wouldn't be comfortable with him having to start for the Jays in meaningful games down the stretch if it came to it .. Hutch seemed to struggle in pressure situations

Best of luck to him .. Jays are looking to win now

"Liriano has a connection with Blue Jays’ catcher Russell Martin. The two were teammates in both 2013 and 2014. His best year came in 2013 when he posted a 16-8 record with a 3.02 ERA and had 163 strikeouts in 161 innings."

It's nice that Jays can also go into 2017 off-season knowing their rotation is set with Sanchez/Estrada/Happ/Stroman/Liriano. It lets them focus on the pen and re-signing Jose/Edwin.

Thanks.

Any reason why Houston would do this deal? They're right there in the wild card. Why give up an experienced guy for a prospect?

They made other deals in the day that affected this move I think. Just making room and clearing salary I guess. We clearly win this deal imo

Would prefer if Osuna was in the rotation and Liriano's 13 mil went to Chapman this off season.
