Capfriendly lists the Leafs as having $0 in cap space, and Engvall only makes $1.250

No reputable 'top 6 scoring winger' makes that little cash outside of someone on their ELC.

As for everyone saying cap space, they can make moves. They'll have some cap at the deadline, move out guys like Engvall and others, can bring in other teams to retain salary like they have in the past.

Just want to know who is available at first.

If we’re out of it at the deadline, Stars retain 50% on Pavelski so we can unite the Robertson brothers in Dallas.

The Leafs need more scoring? Dont see it. Any moves by the Leafs should be made to help prevent goals against.

Leafs have had trouble scoring all season and are 6th or 7th in the league for goals against. This take is a swing and a miss.

No its not. Short sample size man. Your goalies save % is way above the norm which accounts for the 7th in goals against. Unless you think he is going to stay close to .950..... As for the Leafs having trouble scoring again, small sample size. I dont think any team with the Leafs big 4 is going to lose because of lack of scoring.
Your entire post is a swing and miss...

Engvall needs to be included to make the cap work most likely. Just wondering who might be available later this year? Preferably LW but can make RW work if needed

I think we have potential for a win win here
We will eventually make a rental of Strome who is expiring ->ufa. We're fine this year but have Fox 9.5 ext beginning nxt yr and until Trouba's 8m is moved [when he allows it], we are very tight for nxt yr, maybe season after as well.

Strome at half is 4.5, max retain = 2.5. He is native son TOR grew up a Leafs fan. I could see team friendly 5 or 5.25 x 4 and no prob if ya wanna talk to his agent first so you get an immediate extension for next yr w'o delay.

part 1 -- RS at half for TOR 2022 or 2023 1st, Leafs choice
part 2 -- will give you NYR 2022 6th for Engvall.

that's only 1.25

so I'll give you the option if you are stuck
Hajek 874,125 expiring
for
Holl 2m x 2 + 2024 4th

That's not to the penny but it is close enuf

Not this year. Granted it's only been a quarter of the season but they are third in the league in goals against per game.

They lost in the playoffs last year not because Montreal filled the net, but because they couldn't score.

Your point made sense 2 years ago

Yeah with what cap space?

Toronto has done it before and probably is going to do it this year and make a 3rd team retain half the salary.

Toronto does/will need a top 6 LW spot come trade deadline. The Ritchie experiment hasn't gone according to plan and it will become a problem. This is the 1st time in the past 5 years we are comfortable with our 3rd line, same with our 4th line.

Leaves the top two lines (Someone beside either Matthews/Marner or JT/Willy). Along with Bunting on one of those lines.

Toronto is currently 8th in GA in the league and 17th for GF. It seems like the team has finally bought in into playing a team defense game, something they have lacked in recent years. Keeping the puck out of the net hasn't been a issue for Toronto so far, they actually look a lot more comfortable in low scoring games.

Even strength goals has been a issue and it comes from Ritchie dragging down either the first line or second line and then not having a suitable winger for those lines. A top six winger is the Leafs current biggest need.
