Well this thread is unsurprisingly a dumpster fire.

I actually though DeAngelo played pretty well last night.

I think its pretty clear for a lot of reasons not related to twitter that Tony is an in play trade chip for the team. I would hate to see them "sell low" on his talent, ability, and production and it's kind of a fact that to produce as a dman you need PP time. There is no easy path forward from here. I just really hope Gorton is patient with this one.

The second goal is a perfect illustration of how little he knows about playing defense in his own end. He makes some nice passes out from time to time but he is just all over the ice in his own end i dont know how any other defenseman could play with him. Like i can't create a scenario where I'd want him following a player without the puck to near the blue line, and then when Smith covers his corner, he doesn't go back to the net where smith should be, he goes beside smith and ends up tipping the shot to the net. Its gotta be frustrating for the coaching staff to have a guy who can't figure out the basics of his position.

Worried about this guy now that he's not on the top PP unit. Let's be real, he's really a pure offensive defensemen. His value is going to tank if he's not putting up points. Plenty of RD in the pipeline that could jump him in the lineup next year. Kind of makes me wonder if moving him is an absolute necessesity this year.

If he plays the way we know he can, he will still put up a lot of points without being on PP1

He had a ton at ES last year- he just needs to play well enough to get more than 12 minutes with Smith a night. That's on him

The guy just made a racist comment and its about opinion? The truth is most the people who are still fans of this guy on this thread agree with his politics and opinions and ARE like this guy. There is no question about it.

A) Some people only like him due to his views
B) Some people only dislike him because of his views

And it gets very difficult to disentangle and get to the real root of discussion for things that actually matter- IE his gameplay and whatever impact his social media shenanigans have on the organization, when partisan-drunk posters load up the thread with garbage posts about his politics.

People, especially in mdoern America, have to re-learn that it's okay for people to disagree with them.

The f***ing guy at my local sub shop thinks Che was awesome and Castro was a great liberator, doesn't stop me from buying his sandwiches.

I think the scratching and extracurricular shit has messed with TDA game because he looked decent the first game. He's been fumbling the puck like crazy, he just doesnt look sharp. Way too much nonsense going on for him

I mean he would fumble the puck or have it pass under the blade of his stick plenty last year- its one of the hazards that comes with always having your head on a swivel and looking for the next pass.

That bothers me a lot less than actual poor decision-making

I don't think he will ever be good defensively, but given time I'm sure his production will improve.

I think more so in particular after he was scratched

I thought he had a really good 3rd period last night, the rest of the game he was not too visible however. He's never going to be good defensively, and might never even be average but we need him out there to be as lethal an offense as they can potentially be. There was one shift last night where they had the puck in Pittsburgh's end and they were whipping it around, and you could see ADA moving around, opening up passing lanes and whatnot and the shift culminated with him walking the blue line and feeding Smith who ended up hitting the crossbar. The points should come.

I can only hope we move him by the deadline. He might be a good player, but he has a total shit attitude and the absolute nonsense on twitter the other day was just laughable. Get this scumbag out of here.

bingo

he was actually pretty good last game especially in the 3rd.

not only is Quinn messing with Tony’s mind and confidence, he’s lowering his value at the same time all while icing an inferior product -when one factors in talent vis a vis your opponent and trying to actually win games. That’s the goal right Dave ? Or is it lesson teaching. It’s a double or triple whammy of Quinn dumbness.

teach him a lesson while weakening both your team and your player and then criticize his play.

BRILLIANT !!!!

and again, playing him with the corpse of jack johnson ? Marc staal was actually better ... ouch. That hurt. He got what 1 preseason scrimmage with trouba before that was mothballed.

Now he’s back to 3rd pair carousel getting minimal 5v5 minutes and soon he’ll lose his PP1 spot to adam fox who’s gonna play 25+ mins per night and burn out.

Oh and and then all the hockey pundits evicerate tony for playing so poorly....( and being such a political barbarian)

Quinn just has to go. I’m still waiting for something he does better than any opposing coach or even something he does well that stands out.

he’s an attractive guy who speaks well in his pressers while saying nothing. He’s a pure company guy. A slick package of nothing more than fluffy anecdotes and wry smiles.

as far as hockey goes, he’s an empty vessel.

I think calls to move him are pointless. He's obviously insanely talented, and if our other defenseman keep progressing like this, we are afforded one of the best opportunities in the league to situationally play a top-5 offensive defenseman. He becomes a matchup nightmare for other teams, and as we've seen to start this year, we'll need that dynamic offensive presence.

He's had a slow start, but I fully expect him to get back to normal soon with more reps.

I don’t have a problem with people rooting against their own players as long as that player sucks and doesn’t help the team. In DeAngelo’s case, I think he’s expendable now that Fox is here and the power play uses four forwards. It would be nice to have a strong second PP unit but most coaches will tell you that can mess up the lines and matchups at 5v5.

I like his passion, energy, and playmaking but I think Fox and Lundkvist are going to force him out. DeAngelo has a good reputation around the league as a teammate (contrary to the narratives others continue to push) and the Rangers should get a decent return for him. He’s been a good soldier since he’s been here regardless of the social media nonsense

Can we move this guy to RW and deal him?
At this pt I am ready to take the loss in asset capital.

Would have preferred more, then willing to settle for less.
Now I think we are better off just moving on.

If no partner, I'd move him to AHL to start and look at buy out if we can't entice SEA to take him as the exp dr selection.

Looking at Trouba, DeAngelo, Fox, Lundkvist and Schneider--the most obvious player that will eventually get cut out of the group is DeAngelo. It's not to say he's a bad player--he is a good player but of all of them he is the weakest defender and he's at a stage in his career where he's coming into money. He does have slick offensive tools though that maybe only Fox or Lundkvist can match but either or Fox can also do a good job on the power play and Lundkvist I expect will be no slouch either and ELC's and second contracts, better defending are going to give those guys an edge.

It's not just Quinn either. The Schneider pick this year is very much Davidson, Gorton, Bobrov continuing to look at strengthening the right side of our D and I don't think Schneider is all that far away in their plans either. It makes me think that the contract they gave tony this year while well deserved for his play from last year is about as far as they want to go with him. He is a trade piece who may move this season or next and I don't think his twitter accounts or podcasts factor into this much at all. It's just business and how the Rangers have been reconstructing their team. The question for me is when we do move him what kind of return we'll get.

Not particularly an ADA fan by any means... how can you be that two guys that haven't even sniffed the NHL are better defensively than him.. total speculation and not fair to Tony

I don't think he gets what many of us would like but a lot will depend on his offense on the ice and not off of it if a trade does happen . I just wish he would shut up and play hockey and I have been one of his supporters on here for a couple of seasons now. He is driving his own bus.....

I think that both DeAngelo and Lundqvist will be moved. Just seems like that is the way that Gorton, JD & Quinn are building the team. But there is no rush right now. I think that DeAngelo is here for the entire year.

Nils Lundkvist broke onto the Lulea SHL team as a 17 year old not because he was an offensive stud at the time but because of steady and responsible play and smart decision making. His offensive game since that time has developed quite a lot but this guy is not just an offensive minded defenseman. He's closer to an Adam Fox--might even turn out better.

As for Schneider he's a big guy--a man-child type (which is a way of describing K'Andre Miller too) who skates very well in all directions and routinely gets his teams biggest defensive assignments. He has some offense but pretty much he's defense first.
