I thought he used the N word at first but someone meant a compelling argument that it was probably an F word but not the one that means to fornicate. Apparently the team he was playing didn't even have a black player on it, so using that would have been weird. And if what he said was the gay slur f word, I'm sorry if I'm not going to lose sleep over a 16/17 year old saying it. If the guy he said it was gay and Tony knew it that's f***ed up. Likely he meant it as "sissy" and at 16/17 years old that's how a lot of people talk. If he said it now that's a different story. But worst case scenario he called a black player the N word as a kid so he's a racist for the rest of his life? The idea that saying something racist you're kid makes you irredeemable makes you a worse person than actually saying that as a kid.
The bottom line is that everyone needs to expand their vocabulary in order to make others feel as shitty as possible about themselves in an acceptable way. I know we can do it together!

I've been a Rangers fan for over 25 years, and this is the first hill I would die on as a fan. Tony is a very good player (that needs support to flourish on the ice), and comes with some red flags off the ice.

We should 100% liquidate his value because of Trouba and Fox, let alone Lundkvist and Schnieder nipping at his heels. Defending his stances, however, is pure shit. Pure, utter shit.

If we had Fox/Tony/Pionk instead, I would be willing to hold onto Tony for longer, but we just don't need to at this point. He is the most available/valuable dman that we have, given the circumstances.

I’m only agreeing because of your length of fandom and to keep you from dying on a hill

Have you heard a music called hip hop ?

You're literally normalizing white people using that word by saying "haven't you heard black folks using that word???" That take is pure garbage.

First, allow me to say that so very commendable (truly). But also allow me to say that there wasn’t a locker room that was i was a part of where I didn’t hear those words used each and every day. Sometimes, it was literarily every other word.

If every locker room you have been in dropped the n-bomb with regularity, then every locker room you have been in has been filled with fn aholes and enablers. FULL STOP.

Fair assessment. For the record, there’s nothing more that I detest than hatred due to ones ethnicity or beliefs. And will walk away with that.

You say that, but you used whataboutism with hiphop lyrics, and normalized usage based on idiots you shared a locker room with, so I just don't believe you one iota that you "detest" that behavior.
At all.

It is a matter of public record that he got in trouble for both words. I still like the player, and think he's grown from it over time, but Trouba/Fox/Lundkvist/Schneider are more than enough reasons to not have to worry about his off-ice shenanigans going forward.

Are you cool with Wayne Simmonds calling Avery a fkn fgt on NBC? Honest question...
I liked Wayne up until that point, and if he was on my team, I'd liquidate the crap outta him after that.

Wayne Simmonds was not 16/17 years old when he said it. Also, for most people that say fkn fgt they say it to mean sissy not as a slur. It's not excusable, but it's not anywhere close to the N word which is used as a slur (or a term of endearment but the difference is obvious). I'm not defending the word but context matters. And once again Simmonds said it at like 25 is different from TDA saying it as a kid.

Holy shit, it's a slur, regardless of what you mean. You can't just say you "Jewed someone down on the price," and it not be disgusting. I mean, Jeebus...

"It's not excusable," yet you just made the excuse that they maybe didn't mean that thing.
Furthermore, it is VERY close to the N-word, and if you are neither black nor queer, you should probably stop sharing your cis white opinion on the topic.

Ooh here comes the social justice police, how f***ing original. You're comparing an adult using a slur and a child using a slur. And I can share my opinion whenever I want. Who the f*** are you to tell me when I can share my opinion?

When you say that two things are unequal, when you have no first hand knowledge of either of those things, you are simply bloviating. It is not for you to say.

Do you have opinions on women's reproductive rights? Cool, they don't matter! =P

I’m guessing.... college junior.

Dude, you're pulling out all of the stereotypical stops.

For the record I'm Jewish, if someone said "Jewed him down" without malice towards Jews I find it hilarious. It's not my fault that you don't think context matters.

Excuse me. I believe he told you it’s not allowed. I think despite him not being Jewish and you being Jewish, he’d know better than you.

To be fair, Avery has a long, documented history of being a deplorable human himself. It wouldn't surprise me if he threw a thinly veiled racist comment (or as some commentators might call it, a "well-researched chirp") at Simmonds. It doesn't excuse the response/choice of words, but when someone is dealing with that sort of shit their entire lives and are given another pointed nudge, at some point enough is enough and you don't give a shit what you say because you want to hurt whoever as much as possible, or direct the most offensive thing you can think of towards them.
