i don't think the last 30 or so games last year was an outlier. thats the real ADA production wise.

i think ADA will pick right up where he left off last year and play that same way. his 5v5 team leading +6 and his outstanding offensive zone numbers were all legit. PP time is where I'm concerned with all 3 RHD all warranting PP1 and 2 time. fox complicates things some what. trouba will be the gunner on the PP1 and get the bulk if the PP time. ADA should be the PP2 guy. well see.

ADA will be somewhere around 45-50 points this year and he will get his deal next year.

45-50 points, based on last year's scoring, would put him 13th-20th in defenseman scoring. You think he can do that without getting PP1 time, and likely splitting time on the PP with Fox? A third of his points last year were on the PP. 45-50 points seems...ambitious, for a guy who isn't on your top pair and who doesn't get much time on the PP1. The only guys in the 45-50 point range who didn't record a bunch of PP points were Seth Jones, who played 26 minutes per night, and McDonagh, who played on a historically good team that scored like crazy.

45 points is realistic if he continues to get reg minutes for the entire season and. of course, stays healthy.

i think adam fox will tire and play less pp minutes of the 3.

ADA will be a productive pp guy again but his 5v5 scoring will improve with his ability to join the play and benefit from working with panarin, kravtsov and kakko.

40-50 points is what i am expecting with something like 10-35

I think he gets 20 minutes a night, some PP time, and goes like 7-31-38 or something. I don't expect him to produce like a top-20 defenseman if he's on the second pair and not getting the prime PP minutes.

We don't have any idea if Kravtsov will make any kind of impact this year, and while Panarin, Kakko, and Trouba should be helpful, I'm not really sure the team as a whole lot better offensively than it was last year. I don't know if anyone is going to see much of an improvement 5v5. Right now we look--to me--like a defensively challenged team with some upside upfront that should have a good PP. So if you're on the PP--points to be had!--but if you're not getting a lot of time there, it's up to even strength play where we'll struggle.

Time will tell, I guess.

Sounds to me like Tony knew the Rangers cap situation and was holding out really to let them know he's going to want his when the time eventually comes so make sure you have the cap space then, and also juuuuust in case someone offer-sheeted him a nicer contract.

His candor discussing it is refreshing.

College guys almost always do in their first year. The change in the amount of games played/season is pretty drastic.

Doesn't he kind of contradict himself?

I don't think he contradicts himself at all...here is the full quote

“Really, it’s just kind of the way the summer went,” DeAngelo said. “You see a lot of RFAs in the same situation — just waiting things out and seeing what’s happening. There was nothing personal. We were just kind of waiting, looking at options. This is a good spot for me. It’s a good situation and the cap situation is what it is. I’m happy to be back.”

NY Rangers: Tony DeAngelo is glad to 'put everything else behind' after contract holdout

the cap situation is what it is hence the waiting...obviously he was waiting hoping that something would change. his agent also sees the same stuff we do about the rangers trying to trade salaries so he was waiting in hopes that a deal would come and free up more space, it didn't so it is what it is. obviously his agent should have told him to take a deal a few days earlier to not miss camp but I think what he said is the common sense theory of what happened

I would have preferred he signed early and didn't miss any of camp but I can understand the likely play his agent was taking. In my ignorant opinion, I wouldn't be surprised if his agent wanted him to hold out for another week (or more) but Tony got cold feet and just wanted to play hockey.

No options to start but things are fluid and guys get hurt all the time which can change the landscape pretty fast. Here in New York, you don't even have to go out of the way to find a team who, very early in their "training camp" were down their #1 ace starter and primary set up man. Two weeks into the regular season they were down their starting 3rd baseman, shortstop and left fielder. Another team is down their franchise QB which has totally derailed their season. Yet another is down their all-pro RB and had their top 2 receivers basically unavailable for the whole of the season so far. Landscapes sometimes change and therefore so do opportunities.

All in all, it was just a bunch of nothing, as it is most of the time with RFA holdouts.

And he will be a significant component on the second power play unit, perhaps teaming on the blue line with fellow American righty defenseman Adam Fox. Regardless, DeAngelo will receive a heaping amount of opportunity while playing on this contract that will lead him into a salary arbitration-eligible summer. A productive season and DeAngelo will be looking at a two-year deal in the range of $3.25-to-3.75 million per season. Maybe more.
“I wasn’t looking to let this [impasse] go into the season,” said DeAngelo, who had zero leverage absent presentation of an offer sheet that never came. “It was nothing personal. There were a lot of RFA’s waiting it out. The cap is what it is. I’m happy to be here at camp with my teammates.”

hes an intelligent guy. well spoken and thoughtful. the jersey accent is misleading.

sounds to me like hes focused on the right things. the past is the past. love that he said he expects to pick right up where he left off and then some. love the confidence.

i expect him to play well if given the chance.

and i expect Quinn to give that chance.

Quinn's whole thing is earning your chances, through whatever system he uses of determining who earns what. He's not just going to give chances if they're not earned. I would expect Tony to put the stupid shit behind him and earn the chance to have a big year.
