Pretty interesting tony was voted funniest guy on the team. Not sure we’ve really ever known is he well liked in the room considering his past but something like this tells you he means a lot to the guys in the room. That’s important for him as part of the core
Based on their interactions on social media it seems he’s pretty close friends with several of his teammates. Him and Buch always comment these random inside jokes on each other’s posts; he’s also always joking around with former teammates from Arizona too so I definitely think he’s well liked in the room and these character issues are nonsense

I woulda given Ada an 8 year contract in the off-season if he woulda signed it. Big believer in this kid...even if he doesn't train with Prentiss.
Exactly. I said 8 years with an AAV somewhere between 3.5-4.5 mil was doable during the season, and was called crazy. Hell I would even go up to 5.5-6 mil a year. But all in all, I guess it was too big of a risk for some people, and I get it.

The guy is such an alpha. I don’t care how this sounds, but I’d go gay for ADA.

LOL. No ADA signings for you...

There's no doubt that having a LD-RD pairing is the best possible pairing if everything else is equal. But as we all know, that's not always the case, so it would not surprise me if moving one of our rd to the left will be the best option available.

Everything is harder playing the wrong side on the blue line. Its already the hardest position to play but now add taking every cross ice pass on your back hand and making dangerous back hand passes from the wall.

No thanks.

Its different for a forward. the classic Russian sniper preferred playing the offside which affords better shooting opportunities.

it can be done but its a career ender for most guys on the blue line.

Skjei was awesome yesterday.

Can we see that guy on the regular?
I doubt that he will play a ton of mistake free hockey. He tends to have mental lapses, particularly exiting the zone. If he can clean that up, or reduce the number of boneheaded mistakes, he will be good for the duration of his deal.

Some people complain about my anti-Trouba bias but I don't know how anyone who's watching these games can honestly tell me Trouba is the better defenseman than DeAngelo. Trouba is caught flat footed multiple times per game on turnovers where the other teams wingers absolutely blow by him, he is a poor skater. Buchnevich has got back before him THREE times in the last 2 games to break up 2 on 1's, also on that empty net chance that Buch saved. Trouba scares the hell out of me whenever he's on and we have a pulled goalie because I know that he is not beating any player in a footrace ever. He makes many dumb choices especially in shot selection, it seems every single game there are multiple instances where there's a player without a stick or the defending team is exhausted and he shows zero patience and just shoots it at the goalies chest getting the other team a whistle when there are clear passing lanes. DeAngelo & Fox are way better power play QB's than Trouba, they see the ice better, they're more creative, and have a higher offensive hockey IQ; Trouba should be on the 2nd unit. Another thing he does several times per game is when he gets the puck behind our net he'll slow down and skate out with it really lazily or even stop completely and the other teams forecheckers strip him of the puck, or have a close call.

I'd not only argue DeAngelo is the superior player offensively, maybe unpopular opinion but I'd argue DeAngelo is superior to Trouba defensively as well. Trouba is the type of player a very casual fan would think is impressive because he hits hard & has a booming shot, (which are certainly positive attributes) but his game has a lot of warts too. I think we'll regret his contract and I'm hoping we're able to ship him off in a few years when Lundkvist and the kids are ready. Anyway, I think DeAngelo's play has been really promising and I can't wait to see him play in the playoffs. I think he's the type of player & personality who would thrive in playoff hockey.

One thing I find funny, for lack of a better word, is how Tony and Fox are both offensive DMen, but they go about it in completely different ways.

ADA bounces around the ice like the Energizer Bunny, while it seems like Fox is always calm, cool, and collected

One other difference.

ADA gets On the score sheet

Fox- so far, not so much

Fox's playstyle so far isn't going to be very rewarding on the scoresheet. He's been a lot better than Tony in terms of limiting chances against and getting the puck out of the zone and up to the more offensive players to do that dirty work. However, he doesn't come close to the creativity and offensive prowess DeAngelo has.

And that's fine/good.

Both are good at what their main roles with the team are. One is very good in his own end, the other is very good in the opposing end.

Fox has been exceptional so far. hes been mostly excellent

hes gonna be a very good player

The trend continues. JG and his staff continue to find higher impact players via trades rather than the draft

Honestly I think you have both a pro-DeAngelo bias and an anti-Trouba bias, and then you see what you want to see accordingly. When you're down on a player, you go in looking for mistakes and identify literally every misstep; then the guy you like, it's overlooked or pinned or someone else or written off because he contributes elsewhere.

I think Tony is looking very good offensively this year but is still slow to react defensively and easily pushed around. I'd grade his overall defensive play as somewhere between poor and a bit below-average. That's fine, that's not why he's here. But I still don't think he's remotely close to Trouba defensively, and even a guy like Skjei who when he actually shows up is substantially better. I think Fox is better defensively. I think if you called up Lindgren, he'd be better defensively. By the end of the year, Hajek may be better defensively. That's fine, Tony is here to drive offense from the back end and so far he's doing that. So, no problem. If the offense dries up, then it's a problem.

But, we all see what we want to see.

I give this post a solid 7/10 for creativity

Skjei and DeAngelo have always played well together. Would love for them to settle in as a long term second pairing.

anything that pushes Staal down the lineup helps us.

Hajek has really settled down as well. Not taking nearly the beating he was early on. He’s a good compliment to Trouba for now.
