I don't know if you guys listened to the radio feed yesterday but ADA was mentioned prominently in the pregame. It's just like some of the level headed people here were saying.

Quinn benched him for whatever he did but they have had numerous conversations since. ADA is fully aware of how and why he was scratched and has spoken to Quinn at length about it. It wasn't a willy nilly thing. Quinn is aware the team is better with ADA in the lineup versus not, he said as much. Also said that ADA is in the best place mentally he's been in awhile, whatever that means. 2 other things from the interview, this was done with the long term in mind and he will be in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Again, I don't know if Quinn is going to be a good or bad coach it's way too early to tell, he seems to be a good communicator.

ADA has a $ 400,000.00 incentive clause in his contract according to his cap chart . Would that be based on games played ? Whatever the reason for sitting him....it certainly does help with the tank . I think we would have beat TB last night or at least got a point with ADA in the lineup . I like the kid...I really hope they can get past this .

Quinn seems pretty adamant that he thinks ada is one of our better defenseman...and that he'd rather lose the battle to win the war.

Is the implication here that there is a possibility of a plan to sit this guy so the Rangers don't pay a $400k bonus? Seriously?

And ADA is the difference between a 3-2 loss against the best team in the league, and getting a point against them? "I think we would have beat TB or at least got a point with ADA in the lineup"....

Some have gone to the edge on this guy, and some have divebombed over it....congrats...hope you hit the target.

True. And that's very much needed right now.

That said, the people that attack him and seemingly think that DeAngelo should be thrown out there every night regardless of what his immaturity issues are really have a screw loose and are not thinking big picture.

I don't think ADA has to change who he is. So right there, I think that's part of the core misunderstanding/disagreement/whatever we want to call it.

I think the people who don't like ADA sitting view it as something more than what it is. And the pushback is consistently that it's not that deep, or that complicated.

ADA will always be who is he. It's a matter of channeling that in positive directions.

So channeling, not changing.

As for the realities of this team building concept. Not a new concept. I don't really know what else there is to say about it.

Great post.

Especially in a year in which he as to build the team and the team's culture. And what he instills in the rookies now, will be what they in turn instill in the rookies who are coming in next year and the year after that.

But after all the “culture” and “leadership” talk is over we will have to win games... you do that by playing your best players... A team of Jimmy Veseys are great for culture but horrible for winning.

Are you sure a team of Jimmy Veseys is great for culture?

Gotta be honest, and I don't know if I am speaking for others or just myself, but I'm actually more confused than anything else with the responses of a handful of people.

Like I am legitimately struggling to see what is so confusing or concerning or unheard of or not clear about any of this.

I don't think there's so much a passion against their argument, so much as there is a decent level of bewilderment.

I don't fully understand WHY we disagree, if that makes any sense.

Because f*** Pionk...

Or at least that is the argument that is always made.

First of all, I honestly do not think that winning is his top priority this year. It is establishing the culture and building a foundation.

Second of all, what you are proposing is that DeAngelo be rewarded for blatantly ignoring what has clearly been communicated to him over and over and over again. Does that really make sense to you? How does that help establish a winning culture? If the 19 and 20 year olds see him getting away with it, what will it do for them?

Quinn recognizes that having DeAngelo in the line up the way that he has been playing is better for the team. He has recognized that having an engaged Buch is better for the team. He has also shown that in this first year, that he is willing to dress an inferior lineup to drive his point home to the players.

I'm not really sure why we tend to view things as either/or.

Culture and leadership does not exclude talented players.

Skill and toughness are not inherently opposite concepts.

Accountability is not the enemy of progress.

We gotta stop viewing this ---- as so black and white.
What I do not get is the crying for player accountability under AV, and now they get it and no one wants it. That and the overly simplistic comments of Quinn does not like skilled players or has an agenda against DeAngelo.

Ada is good enugh when he's on that what he said was not crazy at all. This was not an example of going to the edge at all with ADA. God knows I've argued against a lot of people who have divebombed off the ADA bandwagon.

Because the call for player accountability is code for "be our mouth piece and slam the whoever board's whipping boy at the time."

The accountability thing is a bit confusing, and at times a little disheartening. Kind of like the whole concept of rebuilding. For years we heard the line that fans wouldn't stand for a rebuild, and this board had me convinced that most would be in favor. But some of the hot takes and over the top reactions thus far have me concerned. We're barely a year into this endeavor and I seriously wonder if some people are going to lose their minds before all is said and done.

But circling back to ADA, I like him a lot. But I don't see anything that a good coach wouldn't be doing thus far. In the end, I don't know if Quinn is a good coach or a bad coach at the NHL level --- that's going to require time. But my early observation is that I think he has a sound grasp of what he's doing and isn't a moron.

It's always interesting to see how whipping boys and sacred cows develop on the boards.

Also interesting how coaches often fair like presidents. They're idiots and morons when holding the position, and with time they tend to be viewed more favorably.

Accountability means benching a player or limiting their ice time when they aren’t playing well. Maybe scratching someone when they don’t play well for an extended stretch of time.

That’s pretty much it for most fans.

It’s about what happens on the ice. I don’t think there are many fans who care what happens off the ice, unless it’s something criminal, and even that’s not always the case.

And thats because our relationship with the players is mostly limited to watching games. Being a hockey fan isn’t some immersive reality tv experience where we follow the players home and winning games is only one small part of the equation. Nobody is cool with losing as long as it means the team bully gets taught a lesson and our favorite player gets the girl.

Accountability is about getting the possible result on the ice. That’s it.

Because accountability should be about how you perform on the ice

I just don't get why people keep confusing "icing a better team now/winning" with "what's best for the player/culture".

Quinn said it for f***'s sake!!!

Putting ADA in means having a better chance at winning. That is not the point however. Doing what's best for him as a player and this team in the future is.

Once people stop bitching about why their player isn't in when his corgis are better than everyone else's and start realizing that this staff is all about the future then we won't have 700 posts about ADA/Buch playing time.
