I'm no coach but the whole "knows what he needs to do" quote could have just been referring to Quinn wanting him to clean up something in his game like hitting certain positional marks defensively or something. I get the feeling coaches look for some small details we overlook as fans like "where are you positioned when this happens, what do you do when that happens" and a player being sloppy about that can irritate them. Whether or not that's worth benching players or obsessing over is another thing...

Its just a generic coach-speak thing... Its like Av's "we had a lot of good chances". Its an answer without answering anything

Kinda like a Kris Letang type.

Their first 60 or so game look similar pts wise. Letang was younger but benefited from the best 2 players from his generation on his team tho

I do see the similarity.

ADA and Letang both have the moxy and the good stride. I'm just hoping Quinn can keep reigning him in. I mean Quinn is supposed to be the development maven, and that's why they brought him here right?

I know this may seem self-centered, but I feel pretty vindicated at the moment. If you look back at my older posts, even before the season started (and probably even last season as well), you can see I’ve always defended ADA. Even during the rough times, I still believed he was a very good player.

But I don’t want to seem arrogant, as there were other Rangers fans that also believed ADA could still be something. So this post isn’t necessarily directed against Rangers fans that doubted ADA.

However, the rest of the league wrote him off (for instance, people that talked about Merkley were “worried” that he was the next DeAngelo, obviously meaning that in a negative way). So for now, it feels amazing that I (and a few others) were right. He’s our best defenseman right now, whether you are looking at regular stats, advanced stats, results, the eye test, or a combination. Hopefully, he can keep this up and keep playing consistent hockey, or this post will look dumb. I just wanted a bigger sample size before putting this out there.

I think you have to give credit to ADA for making it so that the Rangers simply couldn’t take him out of the lineup.

I mean what more can you really ask a young player to do than that?

I will also say that, as a whole, we tend to undervalue the young players and prospects we have on this team.

It’s a shame, because we really do have the makings of the best organizational depth we’ve had in nearly 30 years. We just have to get through the transition phase, which is going to be a frustrating process.

I am extremely impressed that once he has the puck on his stick it goes to places that no one else on the team would see and it is always tape to tape. How many passes does he make where it doesn’t wind up on a NYR stick?

I would love to see the metrics on him for controlled exits so far this season

What are controlled exits exactly? Zone exits that are done by connecting on a pass?

What I like most about ADA is compete level. He's battling every shift, and make skilled plays. That's a rare combination of a high skilled player who plays that type of emotionally engaged game.

I'd say he's been a lot better at making decisions than some of the veterans on the squad. I do have some issues on how the D is coached on certain situations that I'll do in-depth with on another post, but ADA can improve on this.

He could be a key part of a playoff run this year. Fingers crossed at this point, but let the kids play and build culture.

Our best d-man this year.

Tony's defense is a lot better this year. Then again AV's man on man made all our D look kind of shit the last couple years.

I like DeAngelo's edge. I think that fight he starts with Nash happens because he's pissed after watching Jenner, Foligno and Anderson taking potshots at Buch in that scrum. Tony was sending them a message.
