He definitely carries that arrogant South Jersey ******** vibe, but I can live with it if he keeps showing that he's committed to improving himself as a person off the ice - i.e., volunteering his time to work with vets recently- and knowing when to toe the line during a game. The hotheaded cross-checking penalty was stupid, and I hope he learns from that mistake. He's also cleaned up his aggressive pinching a bit, and he's relying more on his vision and passing ability to drive play up ice. If he keeps progressing this way, he'll be a solid fit as a top-4 dmen for a long time here. The Skjei-ADA pairing has been fantastic over the last few games.
At a bare minimum, he has 1) showed flashes of what is underneath 2) showed that after the benchings/scratching he has come back better and deserves a longer look. Believe it or not, I think that whether or not he stays in the line up, as of right now is entirely up to him.

The penalty was for Interference and I think the ref missed that Rakell had the puck on his stick or just released it. It was not an interference penalty, now if the ref wanted to call cross-checking or High Sticking I wouldn't have an argument.

But on another note. This team has been lacking some of that attitude for a while. And if it is coming from someone who is also putting up points, even better

The Skjei-ADA pairing just simply works... They feed off eachother well. Good defensively and dangerous offensively.
Once upon a time,there was a Leetch/Zubov and a McD/Girardi pairing. So why not these 2 becoming a staple?

Isnt it especially important that defensive pairings KNOW what one another is doing, offensively and defensively?
Im sure that Quinnie is specifying to everyone that it is essential for our forwards to come back and cover for our D pinching. It was especially noticeable when we had that sustained pressure in Montreal's dzone. Awesome stuff.

Thats what McQuaid was brought in for.....to show some of that "get out of Hank's way" good stuff. We need to be more brutal in front, and do less chasing in the corners. Been seeing marked improvement. Just watch Marc......yeah, that Marc. The guy that most here love to destroy. Slow, but positionally pretty sound and love his nastiness lately. If he were such a detriment to the team.....dont ya' think Hank would've said something by now?
Sorry, got off track. Love ADA's attitude. That fire he has in his belly. Tough kid, and toning down the "tough street kid", into "tough kid" is surely the goal. Just about everywhere you look, Quinnie and staff have already made their presence felt and have helped to improve all the kids and have even gotten into some veterans heads. Play like you WANT TO BE ON THE ICE, or you dont play......simple.

I think it has gotten lost as to how big and strong Marc is. The nasty was coached out of him (Well everyone really) by the previous regime. I love what I am seeing the past few games out of a lot of players. It doesn't have to be big hits all the time, just a little extra rub into the boards after the player has released the puck, or shove after the whistle.

Tony Dee brings that in spades, along with the ability to move the puck and see the ice like no one else on the team.

On the ice, he has a temper and might be an a$$hole, but off the ice, from what I can see, he’s done nothing wrong lately. And it’s not fair to call him that based on his past, if he has matured.

Would you call someone like John Scott or PK Subban a prick for being annoying on the ice, yet really nice off the ice?
I really don't know why it's any of your concern what I think of the guy. If his past indiscretions, the problems he has encountered getting to where he is now, and his awesome social media antics make me think he's a douchebag, what's it to you? It's my opinion, and I only shared it to illustrate why I have no problem with him as a player--in contrast to a guy who I have no problem with on a more personal level, but I'm not enamored with professionally. Sean Avery was a huge :eek::eek::eek: and I loved him. I'm not going to address is anymore. I think ADA is a prick. It is what it is.

It's quite sad that a 22 year old player with less than 80 NHL games experience isn't allowed the rookie/young player growing pains to develop into an NHL player and must be is constant fear to be benched if he doesn't play great hockey right at the start of his career. You said it's up to him if he stays in the line up..what exactly is he doing or has done this season, from the start of training camp, that shows he doesn't want to, or doesn't have the skill to play in the NHL? I think a lot of people would agree he was treated unfairly at the start of this season based on what we have seen from him (not based on speculative rumors).

If McQuaid didn't get hurt he could still be rotting away in the press box.

McQuaid is a terrible hockey player. He blows. And time spent sitting ADA or Pionk in hopes of propping him up for a mid to late 4 rounder is beyond stupid.

everyone here claims that but IMO that was 0% of the reason...ADA was sat because quinn wanted to get more out of ADA. not to get a better pick for mcquaid. we can argue over quinn's approach but his motivation is to get more out of the guys he is benching.

I'm more saying it as it being math. Not criticizing Quinn. Some have said McQuaid needs to play to up his value. If so, one of Pionk, ADA or Shatty have to sit. None should.

To the point in bold, it is also speculative to suggest that the reason ADA wasn't playing was because his play was itself inadequate. All we know--the only facts here--are that ADA was doing something somehow related to practice, that Quinn had talked to him, and that ADA knew what it was that would get him back out there. That is literally it. It is just as speculative to say that "poor defensive play" is to blame for him being scratched as it is "being lazy at practice." None of us know. You may find one conclusion more logical than the other, but in the absence of facts, it is speculation.

As far as it being sad that he has to play great hockey, I don't think that's the case. ADA had problems in Juniors, evidently didn't impress Tampa enough to not trade him when he was a teenager for a pick much lower than where he himself was drafted, got himself in some kind of doghouse in Arizona, and has encountered something here with two separate coaches. I don't know how you could honestly look at the kid's complete body of work and not come to the realization that his wounds are self-inflicted, and not due to some arbitrary expectation that he play great hockey right off the bat.

No one said that it is growing pains that kept him out of the lineup. He is allowed them. His benching had nothing to do with his with him not playing great hockey.

Fairly simple. Play, practice and act the way that Quinn demands. Pretty black and white. He was not doing that before. He was scratched. He seems to be doing that now. He is playing. Quinn is building a culture and an attitude. That is the basic building block before you get to point production.

So you make speculative statements to try to dispel speculative rumors? What we know is that something happened in practice. We know nothing else. To ferret out what exactly occurred you would need to ask either Quinn or ADA. Seeing the way that Quinn has treated his players, he holds them to his standard. If they do not act in the way that he demands, then they do not play. That is quite a bit different than not allowing a young player to make young player mistakes.
If McQuaid didn't get hurt he could still be rotting away in the press box.
Speaking of speculation....

ill say this again and again...

this kid has skills and an attitude. since when is that problem ?

mark messier was miserable to play against. esa tikkanen, tie domi ulfy, sean avery. this list is long and these guys could all play.

theres nothing wrong with being tough to play against. AV had us neutered. i for one am happy to see some attitude.

plus the kid can flat out play.

Even if McQuaid was average, and even if we could get a 3rd for him, I still wouldn’t play him. I wouldn’t even play him over Claesson. Let alone ADA or Pionk.

So, nothing to back up anything you said? Just more and more speculation? Gotcha.

You say "all we know is something happen in practice" and somehow turned that into "Play, practice and act the way that Quinn demands. Pretty black and white. He was not doing that before." Oh jeeze...

Shattenkirk has been pretty poor and not really contributing much no offense. McQuaid has played a decent third pairing D.

What do you want me to produce? I know nothing more than what everyone else knows. 1) Quinn himself said he had a discussion with ADA regarding something from practice. 2) Quinn has demanded that his players play, practice and conduct themselves a specific way. He has benched or scratched ones that have not. These are two facts. Saying that he was benched for not playing great is speculation.

Now that I think about it, I would rather Shattenkirk sit, but we can still get at least a 1st rounder for him. In any case, if any of the two are playing at the expense of our two young RH defensemen, I am not happy. And I would still rather have Claesson over both of them.

I am doubting that
I don’t think Shattenkirk will ever be good again, but I still think the name will be enough to get decent value for him. And I may be wrong, as there’s still a small chance he improves, but it’s not looking very likely. Still more possible he becomes worth a 1st rounder than McQuaid.

You've become so fixated over Quinns 1 liner about ADA and really have overblown it with nothing else to back it up but speculation. That's all.

Okay so let's not speculate. ADA got benched for a good bit. Why? Provide me some sort of concrete evidence in your answer. Not this "everyone has an unreasonable expectation that he play really well despite being young" stuff. Like, something factual. A quote, a report, etc.

You can't demand other people speak only in facts when you yourself don't really provide any.

“Tony’s played well. Tony’s done a lot of good things,” Quinn said. “Tony’s moved the puck well, I think he’s defended well, I’ve liked a lot about his game.”

DeAngelo sat out the first two games of the year before contributing a pair of assists in his season debut. But two games later, he was back in the press box. An injury to Adam McQuaid, though, afforded DeAngelo another shot, and he has run with it.

“I think this guy can be a well-rounded defenseman, not just a guy who can give you a little bit of offense,” Quinn said. “He’s a competitive guy, he can handle bigger players ‘cause he’s quick and he does have a good stick. He’s been very coachable.”

Not exactly glowing remarks but I guess it's at least something.
