All the research you need is in this thread. It only goes back to about August 8th.

What exactly is the argument here? I said we should be hyped on kids who play well for us. Everyone said before the season started “All Tony d has to do is put up points and all is forgiven.”

Now, he we are, he is doing what we all wanted yet now ‘social media’ has blown him up to all of us as if he is now overrated? That is bananas, again, let’s be happy for these kids and let them continue to grow.

Buch, well i hope, for the sake of our team that he turns it around and does the things he’s supposed to be doing.

DeAngelo has taken over Buchnevich's spot for the love child of this board. As usual, Staal is the whipping boy no matter how well he is playing.

I assumed we were talking about this.

To be fair, at the times when ‘love child’ status was invoked for each of these guys, it has been well deserved. Enjoy the play of our KIDS and KEEP IT MOVIN’ , man. If this is the type of **** you’re going to be getting into this early into the year, it is going to be one incredibly arduous season for you. Watch these guys grow, hate Marc Staal with everyone else and hope we come out of the other end not in Edmontonland.

I disagree with this.

Ok, you’re saying that we should not get excited over young talent whom have shown they can hang but need some more seasoning?

You think that it’s all hype spurred by the great and powerful giant which is the NYR social media machine?

My facetious statement about Marc ‘left eye’ Staal?

??

So you would rather us gush over Marc f*cking Staal, than be excited for our players that have skill and upside (which we’ve been lacking)?

If Marc Staal is your priority, then I don’t know what to tell you. Besides, he hasn’t even been good. Just better than his usual awful self.

Fans overhype prospects every year. I’m not sure what you are missing sir.

Considering our entire rebuild is based on prospects, you should probably get used to this. Are you expecting people to embrace the rebuild and be overly pessimistic about prospects?
It feels that way a lot. The pessimism and impending doom.

The idea of the rebuild is to obtain awesome prospects who don’t need to be overhyped for some wish fulfillment. They will speak for themselves.

Exactly, so how can you possibly quantify ‘overhype’ on unknown ceilings of players? As you said, let them continue to speak for themselves and not shoot down 23 year old kids. We should all be hoping these guys pull it together.

Not shooting down. Just being more realistic because it happens every year.

That’s why I responded to the post about how love child status went from Buch to ADA in such a short amount of time.

The hype on Buch last year was so extreme that the commentary on why the coach wasn't “using him right” could have been lifted straight out of a psychiatric hospital.

When the Rangers get true home runs, there will be no need for fan fiction.

The dearth of home runs in this area are directly related to the overhyping.

Are the Buch and ADA talk really the same though? I feel as though a lot more people are quick to completely trash ADA than they were with Buch.

We could potential already be sitting on a home run and not se it for three years - I think that’s another thing, that unknown quantity. Do i personally see a homer in anywhere here, not right now, but honestly who is to say what any of these guys turn into if/when they reach their respective ceilings.

Isn’t ‘Ranger fan’ a synonym for a dearth of home run prospects ?

Time will just have to tell, all of us, in reality, know absolutely jack **** about any of these guys we’ve drafted the past two years. I’m just excited to see how it all shakes out.

2019 draft is so huge for this team. Hopefully that’s when the ‘fan fiction’ can begin to cease.

Buchnevich was a kid we drafted and developed, so he gets some leeway. He was gonna be our next "steal." ADA was a somewhat troubled prospect we acquired in a deal that people many people didn't love and then he probably alienated himself from a lot of people with his politics. So, right or wrong, I think that's kind of how it goes. Personally I have no problem with ADA and am rooting for him, despite thinking he's a prick. Whereas Buch, I'm just disappointed thus far.

You’re disappointed in Buchnevich because of the expectations this board has built up for him... Statistically the fact Buch is even in North America playing professional hockey as a 3rd round pick it’s a win. We took 3 guys that year in the 33rd. Tambo is a no impact player in Hartford, Duclair is on his 4th? Team, Buch is a middle six forward. Buch’s success is basically the best you could hope for a 3rd rounder.

I set my own expectations, I don't care what "the board" thinks. I'm disappointed in Buchnevich because I remember watching him in the KHL and he had a great motor and was always involved, and I don't see anything resembling that level of engagement anymore. I was hoping it was just conflict with AV, but he looks like the same mope this season. I understand getting what we have from him out of his draft position is great; I just think he could be more, and will remain disappointed until I see more engagement.

I don’t think he’s a prick. He’s said some dumb things when he was young, but haven’t we all said things at a young age that we regret? He hasn’t been a bad person (not that I’ve seen) in a while. Just gets very emotional. [mod] Besides, he’s been doing a lot of community service since he’s gotten here.

That's all well and good. I still think he's a prick. Which is fine; a ton of the guys I root for I would probably find to be pricks as well. I accept that's part of rooting for a team comprised of a bunch of individual people.

He definitely carries that arrogant South Jersey dickhead vibe, but I can live with it if he keeps showing that he's committed to improving himself as a person off the ice - i.e., volunteering his time to work with vets recently- and knowing when to toe the line during a game. The hotheaded cross-checking penalty was stupid, and I hope he learns from that mistake. He's also cleaned up his aggressive pinching a bit, and he's relying more on his vision and passing ability to drive play up ice. If he keeps progressing this way, he'll be a solid fit as a top-4 dmen for a long time here. The Skjei-ADA pairing has been fantastic over the last few games.

You couldn’t have said this any better and I totally agree. Kid is a moper and has been since the minute he got here. Should be a solid 50 to 60 pt right winger at worst and isn’t because he showed up out of shape when he came to the team and has frowned his way along ever since.

On the ice, he has a temper and might be an a$$hole, but off the ice, from what I can see, he’s done nothing wrong lately. And it’s not fair to call him that based on his past, if he has matured.

Would you call someone like John Scott or PK Subban a prick for being annoying on the ice, yet really nice off the ice?
