Recalled/Assigned: Tony DeAngelo back to Wolfpack

He's easily better than Holden and Staal and has significantly outplayed Skjei, who hasn't shown any ability to be effective against competition that isn't awful.

Staal so far played surprisingly well and is better suited to be Shattenkirk partner (with ADA who's playing on offside). Holden has to be showcased as he's a prime bet to get a forward this team is short of. Sitting Skjei to play ADA? No. So it's either less than 10 in the NHL or a prime role and minutes in Hartford.

The issue to me is less about the specific circumstances and more about how the coaching staff seems to have failed to figure out how to use the defensive pieces they were given and are scrambling now to save a season they're in danger of losing. Arguably the same issue with the forwards...they have thus far failed to get what they need to out of this roster, for whatever reason, and that is ultimately concerning.

Agree that the coaching staff has been failing to optimize line up for both D and F even though the origins of each issue are opposite: excess on D and shortfall at F.

We're living in the past of a story line where we end up with Mark Messier as our HC and Brad Richards as our GM next October and it's gonna be like

"Well, you're wondering how this happened?"

With Dolan and Sather still playing somewhat active roles in the organization, I would never discount the possibility of one or several "good ol' boys" hires

What a great movie pitch...

I am just trying to address the lack of top end talent on our roster, and more specifically the center position.

This has been a problem forever. The difference is Lundqvist, in his prime, covered it up quite well. You have a hard future in front of you with an argument that Lundqvist isn't declining. It spits in the face of reality.

Yep. Thats us. You're probably wondering how we ended up in this situation...

Guys, I get the high emotions here, but let's take it down a notch and try and look at this objectively.

The point of sending ADA is not to punish him, it's to play a part in developing him. He's going to get a lot of ice time, he's going to a league that focuses on development.

He also just turned 22 today.

To put that into perspective - on Brady Skjei's 22nd birthday, he was finishing up his first full season in the AHL, and 76th AHL game overall, before he would get a look and eventually make the team the following season.

On his 22nd birthday, Ryan McDonagh had played 7 less NHL games.

The point is, this kid is still young and a work in progress. We've got some time here people.

What an amazing birthday present he got.

Annoyed because I thought he should’ve been playing here, but he needs a lot of playing time to keep developing. Hartford actually seems like a good environment this season and not the impending abyss of despair it was last season.

I think he’ll be back up later this season. He isn’t waiver eligible so it won’t be a problem.

There are people who want to draw and quarter Staal in the public square, but send a kid to the minors on his birthday and management is reprehensible.

One is a top prospect in the organization, the other is a old defensman on his last legs..I don't see the comparison.

I'm fine with this. He needs to be playing in all situations and developing. He wasn't doing that as a power play specialist in a 7-dman rotation.

Get him away from AV/Ruff's horrendous personnel usage.

Disappointing for him I'm sure, but good for him in the long run.

I've actually been surprised at how well Staal has played so far. Others have been an issue but not him. The only thing is his cap hit is still way too much.
I give Staal huge props for his f*** everyone else attitude that he’s carried into this season. He knew he was bad, knew he could be better, put in the work, and pulled through so far this season. Still some gaffes here and there, but it’s a huge improvement from last season

No disputes there from me. Staal might be toward the end of his career(as in final 3 seasons), but he came to camp READY and he played well. Always been a fan of him.

People don't realize he has played the top 10 most games in NYR history, that is quite the f***ing honor and he should get respect.
