The Rags can solve their Tom Wilson problem by trading for him. Drury would give the caps a kings ransom lol
I think any team would give up multiple high end picks and prospects. Unique player on a great contract.

Would be the leading scorer for the Isles if you got ‘em!

There's nothing a team could offer within the realm of realistic possibilities that could entice Washington to part with him. He is wearing the "A" right now and he's probably their future captain. Top line PF with elite skating ability who is also one of their best penalty killers and gets meaningful PP minutes as well. And on his contract he's one of the best value per dollar cap hits in the league.

I'd say he's the second least likely guy to get traded after Ovechkin at this point. He's that important to the Caps.

If the Leafs traded Marner for him, they might actually win a playoff round.

I doubt the Caps would even go for that

They would win for sure. Can you see someone giving a hit on Tavares or Matthews when Wilson is on ice?

Woof. That's a tough one. I suspect it would take at least top 3-5D and a top 3-7F, maybe with one on an ELC/cheap contract. Probably take Schultz back if no ELC. Basically, a price no team would rightfully pay.

Examples:
Wilson
for
Ehlers + Stanley
- WPG would almost certainly balk at this, but it still might not move the needle enough for WSH
Not only would Winnipeg balk at this, they'd put a restraining order against the caller.

And the islanders have won more playoff series IN Toronto (3) than Tavares (0)has since leaving.
Leafs fans celebrating like they won the cup beating an isles team depleted by Covid right now. Leafs should have destroyed the isles with Pelech and Pulock in the line up. Also no Lee Bailey Greene.

Tavares hasn’t done shit since leaving while the isles have made the playoffs every year and have gone to the conference finals the last 2 years only to lose to the cup champs.

we’re 15 game into the season. If you feel good about beating a team that started out on a 13 game road trip and came home with a 3rd of the regulars out because of Covid then good for you.

This is why people can’t stand leafs fans. So delusion.
At the end of the day, the leafs lost to a Zamboni driver off the street. Nothing can top that.

Congratulations on beating the isles in their 2nd ever game in their new arena.

Wilson is the last dinosaur left after the meteor hit. I would love to see what he would be if he had to lock up with Tony Twist,Marty McSorley, Bob Probert, or Joe Kocur level guys. There's literally about 100 players that would shine their shoes with Wilson's jersey with him in it. He's lucky he plays in the era he does.

There is not a chance in the world the Capitals would trade Tom Wilson. He is a rare player that plays in every situation in a hockey game, who also provides captain level leadership and face of the franchise level promotional value. He just isnt for sale

Who cares?? Tony f'n Twist wasn't on the 1st line, pp2, pk1, 6 on 5, 5 on 6, 4 on 4, 3 on 3. Who is also a top 10 hitter in the league who can fight. That Ian Cole beat down was a result of a cheap shot on Kuznetsov. This guy is more like Rick Tocchet or Dale Hunter than Joey Kocur.

Dinosaur hockey players are by definition are extinct. They are not 1st line players on champion teams on a line with the greatest goal scorer in the history of the league. Whats next? Ovechkin is a dinosaur too?

Wilson is a power forward at the height of his powers who doubles as an intimidating force and an enforcer when necessary, gets a ton of PK minutes, can play the big body presence in front of the net on the PP, has decent wheels, and good hands.

Here's the problem in any proposal: Wilson is a good power forward who signed away his prime years too low. He has three playoffs left under a contract that only carries a $5.16M AAV.

Wilson is a unicorn. The Caps are not rebuilding, so you couldn't attract their interest with futures. The Caps are trying to contend today, and they have better prospect depth than they even suspected, with up to seven rooks playing nightly and thriving. So it's really got to be one good player. Quantity for quality packages would likely not elicit interest from Washington. Two dimes and a nickel for a quarter? I don't think that's going to do it.

There are certainly players who would move the needle in what would have to be a one-for-one kind of offer, but they all carry an AAV of $8M or more. I don't think this would be easy. What kind of package, without futures, gives you what Wilson gives you for $5M?

Add it up, and it's extremely likely he plays these three playoffs with the Caps, and then just a question of whether he wants to stay or not, and what the new sticker price is going to be on his next deal. If the Caps are ready to rebuild, then maybe he becomes a UFA. If they still feel like a good team, then there's probably a number in the $7.x range that both sides can live with, but he'll never provide the kind of value he provides today again. His contract is too team-friendly to move it, not if you're trying to win.

You're right. He's a counterfeit version of Rick Tocchet.
