Yeah and just a decade or two later, many of those players have succumbed to the head injuries they built up playing that “big boy” hockey.

It shouldn’t be surprising or inferred as a sign of softness that fans and players alike have moved on from that era and are concerned about the health of fellow human beings.
Concerned enough that a number of people people in every Wilson thread go on about how he needs to get hit in the face with a stick or something to that effect.

Please. Humans aren't that concerned about each other. Never have been, never will be. People generally only have concern for looking concerned.

That man's head is in his number. Get him immediate medical attention.

here's the image, blown up, and slowed down:

Clearly punches him in the cheek. You're more blind than Mr Magoo if you think otherwise.

Tom Wilson doing scumbag things and the team defending it, actually scratch that, celebrating it with a classless tweet they now deleted

A sociopath is one who only cares for themself and shows no care for the health or well being of others. That very much applies here. Not trying to split hairs or cause an argument with a mod but he’s clearly shown he has no respect for the well being of others beyond himself.
This is a virtue in contact sport.

Doesn't look like anyone was seriously injured so the league won't do shit.

This is how it has been for a while: Punish based on the result and not based on the act.

Also. Is Tom Wilson's little brother running the Capital's twitter account? f***ing embarrassing for the league to have something like that tweeted out. Complete lack of awareness.
It seems there is a massive outrage on social media to this, not just from Rangers fans, people love to hate, so the NHL is going to have to address this somehow.

The sad thing is that Islanders, Bruins, and Penguins fans will hold on to this tweet telling themselves that Wilson fell to the ground turtling away from Martin even though they know in the back of their heads that it isn’t true.

And before you shoot back with Caps fans blindly defending Wilson, I’m not defending what he did to Buchnevich. There was no place for that.

It also sucked seeing a superstar like Panarin get thrown on the ground like that but I don’t think that’s necessarily suspension worthy or “dirty” per say. You can slow down the video all you want that cuts everything else out and makes it seem like Panarin was helmetless the whole time and Wilson threw him to the ground anyways. But that was a scrum after the whistle and Wilson having 50 pounds on Panarin. I’m not blaming Panarin for sticking up for Buchnevich, but that’s not a matchup that you want. And just because Panarin is an incredible player and smaller, doesn’t mean that he’s going to get a pass if he gets into a scrum with someone.

He threw Panarin to the ground by his hair, he knew he was helmet-less. He literally tried to choke buch with his stick and then punched his limp body as he was face down on the ground. Both are examples of clear intent to injure.

Yup. We are all fans of a sport that encourages, demands and applauds grown me to fight while on ice wearing skates at the smallest slight or when your team is down 4-0. The hand wringing when a hockey player gets out of control is disingenuous at best.

Keep 'em coming, I am enjoying your out of the box perspective.

The most amazing part of your viewpoint here is the fact that Wilson would never, and I mean never ever get away with what he pulled tonight back when they let the players enforce themselves, even possibly as previous as 5-10 years ago. The reason he gets away with shit like this now is because the role of the enforcer has been slowly disappearing from the league in favor of skilled players. It isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does have it's drawbacks.....one of which is the fact that a player like Wilson, who is a big, nasty guy that can hurt most players in the NHL, has a far less chance of getting absolutely throttled by a dude that can dummy him with his fists.

I can understand caps fans having the emotional attachment to the player to foolishly defend him.

My only attachment to him is that he’s an absolute machine in my multi category dynasty fantasy league, and even I want to make a (foolish and more emotional than logical) argument for him myself.

These “I’m not blindly defending” posts where you just explain out your defense in greater detail doesn’t change the fact that you’re blindly defending him. In the post itself, you can’t help but put down other fanbases and defend the picture as a deceptive image meant to demean Tom Wilson’s manliness.

The guy is a douche. A good player. But a real shithead who doesn’t respect other players. Is he the only player who doesn’t respect other players? Nope. But he’s easily the most consistent.

aww ain't you the cutest thing

What's sad is no one on the Rangers is going to do anything about it. Soft ass team that doesn't do anything when you run their goalie or take liberties on a star player.

Way too many soff teams in the league. The NHL isn't going to protect anyone.............and yet they institute the instigator rule which allows wussy faux tough guys like Wilson to run wild.

On your last paragraph: I'm not sure if you saw from this angle, but the guy literally has a full grip on Panarin's hair and pulls him so that he fell backward, and Panarin's unprotected head slammed on the ice
