I think he needs to sit for a long time, at least. No playoffs would be the right call.
But there is more to this: I think if you don't send a clear message, he might end up hurting someone in a way none of us wants to witness.

I’m sure you’d have the same energy if a Pens player two handed Ovechkin in the face and broke his jaw. That stuff happens in UFC, so after all it is entertaining, no?
I used to get pretty riled up about that stuff. Like the stick to varlamov’s throat but I just don’t really care anymore. These guys are just in a very violent game with frustrating officials. That leads to some unhinged and inexplicable behavior at times.

Honestly, not a big deal to shrug off Panarin after he jumped him. Punching a defenseless player in the back of the head is not okay.

I love Wilson when he plays on edge i.e. when he hit that player on the Penguins shoulder to shoulder a split second late. I'll live with that because it's a simple, deserved interference on a clean hit. But I don't need to see this stuff after the whistle, essentially like in an NFL fumble pile. He hasn't learned clearly or he thinks somehow this is helping the team win when it isn't.

Silly Caps twitter, thinking that deleting a comment will make people forget

Do you hear that? That sound is the sound of another intern running a corporate twitter account being fired

I get that it's HFBoards but I wouldn't put it that way if I hadn't. I've hit friends harder than that. That's, like, not even as hard as the "open fist" punching we'd do as knuckleheads in high school to beat each other up without breaking any ribs. In fact, since I'm mentioning it, I'd be pretty surprised if he hit him with a closed fist too, not that it matters much with hockey gloves on.
The Panarin play was much worse though. Just a complete meathead play.

If you played hockey you know when a player is falling on your stick with their head and neck region and you let go of one end of the stick. Instead of doing this Wilson flexes his elbows up effectively choking his opponent with his stick. He then falls on his opponents upper body choking him more. His opponent goes limp he bunches that opponent while his face first on the ice that is 100% intent to injure. Without taking in to context the second situation where he threw someone to the ground by their hair. Should be suspended for a long long time.

I'm still of the opinion that this will get nothing, because both Panarin and Buchnevich never lost full mental faculties, and therefore the PR from the media is not going to shame them into doing something, especially to a player who is as important to one of their bigger money-making franchises as Wilson is to the Caps.

That's the league's history, at least. I'll be more than happy to be wrong.

Quite a few defend him any time the incident is brought up on these boards.
Oh come off it. Every single one of these self-righteous posts. Members of all fan bases defend the indefensible all the time. Happens with Crosby, happens with Marchand, happens with fkn Ryan Reaves.

I don't know where this silly group think that it's "only a Caps fan" thing started, but stop the dumb now.

The fact that the deleted tweet is now circulating virally is going to really piss off NHL headquarters.

You’d like to think that wouldn’t impact the disciplinary process, but in this context you have to wonder if it adds a bit of prejudice to the decision.
Yeah not really sure what the social media person was thinking on that one.
