@Vector. Can we please remove your sticky. I'm tired of reading your post about Willander with you saying the exact same thing over and over again page after page. :sarcasm:

Biggest game of the NCAA season
Crazy atmosphere

Willander learned the hard way against that BC line not to be too aggressive
I wouldn’t pinch against that line, he did to lay out Ryan Leonard, but smith and Perrault were left.

BU has 5 posts
Willander had 1 penalty as well when tuch turned it over and was caught flat foot footed

BC’s first goal was one of the weakest goals I have seen in a minute

biggest 2 games before the beanpot. Would love to be there for one of these games.

I have no idea how Quinn Hutson missed that setup from Willander

makes no sense
nobody from BC even knew where the puck was
he just had to shoot into an open net.

I think it might be 'Lane' Huston, who's a draft pick of the Canadians. He's been paired with Wilander for most of the season at BU.

From what I understand, Huston plays the game like a rover, and Wilander is the defensive rock on that pairing. But not the easiest guy to play with.

Nope they’re brothers

Quinn is the oldest and is a forward who has played center and wing, and in the first minute of the 3rd Willander set him up and he fired it over the net. Nobody was looking at him the pass from Willander was so instant and a no look.

Wow!....You're right.....checked the BU roster and there are two sets of brothers, the Hutsons and the Celebrini's. Surely that has to be a first for any hockey roster anywhere.

There's actually 3 sets of brothers on that team.

Willander was very good and set up 2-3 chances but he got caught of one of the goals finishing a guy on the wall in the neutral zone causing a 2-on-1 when no one covered for him. Not sure if this is on him or a forward but I have noticed he can get caught being overly aggressive against the rush sometimes - correctable with the right coaching and system.

You rarely see him take a one-timer so he will need to add that to his arsenal if he wants to be more of an offensive threat. He did rip a good one on the rush for his first in his first game but you never even see him consider blasting it from the point.

The Soo Greyhounds have 2 sets of brothers as well, got one brother at the trade deadline, though 🙂

Watching tonights game, and the last 2 against BC

I dont think he is even remotely adjusting on how to play with hutson

he's caught off guard soo much when hutson decides to rover and just goes onto Willander's side of the ice.

Hate to use a basketball analogy, but hutson is essentially doing a ton of "pick and rolls" and Willander just aint reacting quick enough. Like sometimes he starts to retreat back defensively as he can't handle the close proximity of two defense so close each other in the offensive zone.

Thank god Hutson is turning pro after this year. Willander will have every chance at being the #1 all situations

Strong game tonight in the beanpot against BC

Put up against the top line for BC which is the best line in the country. So him with Cade Webber who is a pretty old school type of d-man who trash talks a ton, hits a ton, and leads the nation in block shots by a country mile. 2nd game in row they’ve played together and look so much better.

Pandolfo echoed in the pre-game what I mentioned earlier.

They are having a tough time finding a partner for Hutson. They went back to Case McCarthy who they played with at the start of the season but always got scored against, but switched mid game then put his brother Gavin with Hutson.

Webber and Willander weren’t scored against by that powerhouse line or anybody on the night.
That line scored
But not against the Willander pairing who were plus two on the night.

Also of note, Cutter Gauthier and Willander have something going right now. And it’s been going on for 3 games, which have happened in the past few weeks, it’s specifically these two. Scrums, headlocks, lots and lots of talking face mask to face mask. Willander smoked Gauthier into the post when he wasn’t expecting it, then Gauthier stood up Willander another shift.

Lane Hutson is both an electrifying player and a walking pile of red flags. Will be interesting to see how his game translates (or doesn't) to pro hockey.

I thought he played well in the beanpot final which is huge in the Boston area

But he had a rough sequence in 3 on 3 that led to the OT winner and they lost

Kind of his fault
But kind of not
he probably couldve done better coverage there but not too upset over that
This game was also the most active I've seen him in the offensive zone in a while, which was somewhat unexpected, perhaps due to what was at stake as he's usually more reserved

Yeah it’s not the worst, like it hits his skate, but he gets some body position.
His backcheck is insane to show his skating

But Ryan Greene has ZERO business coming on the double team to help Willander and leaving his man.
You never double team in OT with that much space.

BU outshot NE 2 to 1, Caron just picked a bad time to have a bad game. TM rushed back all the way to angle out Hrychkowian but probably gassed, so happens Greene left his man for some reason. Came up just short. Still picked up a phantom assist and is +2. These big college games are just electric.

I think the Hab hype machine is going to be really disappointed but time will tell if Hutson can make the adjustments needed.

This was my first reaction as well and I'm not going to put too much stock into a 3 on 3 okay.

That being said, while Willander has incredible skating skills I sure hope that his IQ is at least average and that he can learn better defense but that can be said about almost any Dman so young and he is a converted forward so I'm not too worried.
