Bertuzzi has had 1 good season.

Bertuzzi is one of the most over-rated players in the league. without naslund setting him up he would not be having very much success at all.

In 01-02, Bertuzzi was the best hockey player on the planet in the second half of the season. Absolutely destroyed the opposition almost every night. Finished the season 3rd in league scoring, with the highest points-per-game in the league.

In 02-03, he scored 97 points, was 5th in league scoring, and was named to the league's first All-star team.

That's not '1 good season'. That's two dominant seasons. When he's on his game, he's the best power forward on the planet. Including Iginla. Unfortunately his play has been spotty for much of 03-04, and at the start of this year. But he's one of only a couple players out there who can win games by himself. That's why he's on the team. When he's motivated (as he surely will be in Italy) he's almost unstoppable.

Thats 2 GREAT seasons, not ''one good season''.

Yes i stand corrected and At at the time of the Olympics he will be 31. 31 with 2 good seasons out of 11.

Its not like hes a young guy who they're grooming into a leader on the team for years to come.

Shane Doan?
Ryan Smyth?
Adam Foote?
Martin Brodeur?

Bertuzzi isn't the only one not having an amazing season that is on the team...
Smyth has more goals than Bertuzzi this year

Bertuzzi should make this team but he vastly overrated...2 years of 30 goals or more...that's it....and the guy is 30

he's scored a whopping 17 goals in 69 games in 03-04

overrated...dissapears in the playoffs

umm lets be honest here, in the second half of the 01-02 season the best player by a mile was Iginla.

Good for Bert! I hate to play against him but.. I love having him on the team for Team Canada. His play as of late has been amazing once again. :handclap:

Interesting to note, he's got 1 more point that Iginla.

Bert is still maturing, and being a part of this team will speed up that process.

Interesting to note, Bertuzzi has a great linemate to carry him.

Bertuzzi also lacks the leadership ability, maturity, personality and proven track record, both in the NHL and in international events.

Bertuzzi will never mature. He's not exactly an 18 year old kid.

His play the past two years does not warrant his inclusion on this team. Even completely forgetting the Moore incident, Bertuzzi does not desreve this honor.

Fact is, he is on this team specifically because of the Moore incident. He has been included for politicial reasons, nothing more.

Lets hope his stupidity does not cost this team gold.

If he stays on pace this year, he will have scored 25 goals or more 5 out of the last 6 seasons.

And Kris Draper has 1 goal and 7 points this year, but Bertuzzi's pick is more questionable isn't it?

but getting prime minutes all with Naslund (virtually all) he should be getting a lot more than 25...he should be getting 40-50. That's what the best power forward in the NHL would do.

kinda like "Big Bert" in the 2003 playoffs

What are you talking about?

Bertuzzi was our #1 reason why we overcame a 1-3 game deficit and beat the St. Louis Blues in that 7 game playoff series. Not only put Jackman and MacInnis out of commission, his physical presence changed the flow of the game and destroyed the gameplan of the St. Louis Blues. Their psyche was altered and every time the Canucks dumped the puck into their corner, you could smell the anxiety that their defense felt. We won games 5, 6 and 7 in a row because of Bertuzzi and the rare physical acumen he provides.

When Bertuzzi is on, his game is unbelievable.

That is the most absurd thing I've heard all day. He made it in spite of the Moore incident, not because of it. Look, I understand that a lot of people have a lot of emotional hatred towards Bertuzzi, but some of these arguments are completely nonsensical.

Not even close. Iginla started that season off ON FIRE (and didn't Calgary start that season 20-5 or something?). Bertuzzi was suspended 10 games early on but went on a rampage down the stretch.

:dunno:
Wouldn't it have been more politically correct to OMIT Bertuzzi?
I don't see how this can be construed as a political move, frankly.
Maybe he is just a hell of a hockey player.

wasn't he also meant to score goals?
he's the reason you choked against Minny

You're joking right? The goaltending and the defense were the reasons why we lost against Minnesota. Our offense gave us the opportunity to win the series against Minnesota, our defense never came to play.

It has become quite obvious you have no idea what you are talking about.

I did not say "politically correct" At least try to argue against what I'm actually saying.

You tell me. What has Bertuzzi done to deserve to be on this team?

He had one great season three years ago.

No international experience.

Was a major reason why the Canucks choked away a 3-1 lead to Minnesota.

I'm not even sure he has won at any level.

Has major league maturity issues, and is prone to taking stupid penalties at inopportune times.

Political reasons is the only plausable explanation for his inclusion. He's there because Gretzky wants to make a point about "moving on" and "forgiveness."

This team would have been much better off with Staal.
