His production died at the end of last year as well, so his resume is really half of one season
He's a sophomore player who had a second half scoring slump. I don't see what your point is. If he had maintained his first half scoring pace he would've been closer to 50 points and his ask is probably at least a million per more than his current asking price.

Just curious, what's the point of playing hardball over half a mil on a rebuilding team? I don't think players talk to each other in regards to how contract negotiations went, so I'm confused where the issue is. All this does is hurt Arizona's chances of resigning him when the contract is up.

All Rieder has to do is sign the contract for a (lol) paltry 2.2mil and prove yourself worthy of more. Then you can get a higher pay. Eventually he'll be a UFA and cash in big time.

What ?? I don't get it...
I thought Chayka was the wonderkid GM that could solve everything from famine to world peace?

What will the Coyotes do now??

Rieder is not Hampus Lindholm; he's a player Arizona can afford to live without. He doesn't really have any leverage and I don't know why he's digging his heels in the sand here. Arizona's offer is fair for what he currently brings to the table. If I'm Chayka(sp?) I call him on the bluff unless someone gives me something in trade that makes the team better.

He's worth 4.5 over two. The team offers 4.4 over two and he demands a trade.

This is the second time he's demanded a trade. He's had two NHL clubs and demanded a trade from each. He's only been an NHL player for a whopping two seasons. His agent is absolutely poisoning this kid's professional reputation. He's aways going to be looked at as a pain in the ass and as damaged goods. And for what? For what?

His worth is not for any of us to say but frankly...If I played for a club that barely spends any money on ACTUAL players, and then won't meet my demands of a paltry 300K a season, I think thats pretty sad...

Were not talking about mega bucks or mega term here... or a stanley cup contender...

Why nickel and dime him? If chayka doesn't sign him...its truly a mismanagement of players.

Being hard-nosed is fine but this is sad and shows inexperience

Rieder is not asking what Hampus Lindholm is asking. Call a spade a spade.

So what you're advocating for here is that players should set their own prices and GMs should bend over backwards to give them that? The offer from Arizona is perfectly in line with other similar calibre players. Why is the issue with Arizona, and not Reider? This is the second trade he's requested after not really proving himself.

You give one player that extra value they want, and all players are going to want that extra 10% or so to sign in Arizona. For a team that is trying to pinch pennies with its budget, that is a death sentence. This sends a message that you'll get your fair value - you want that extra 500k? Earn it.

And that is the problem. IF he had a good second half the Coyotes would probably pay a million more, but the second half slump put up some red flags. Rieder doesn't have a track record to go on, so the Coyotes have to be careful, they are not sure what kind of player Rieder is going to be. If Rieder is confident in his ability, sign a two year deal, prove yourself, then go for that big contract.

If you watched the Coyotes and Rieders play closely you would have your answer. He is an unproven player at this point in his career.

Two completely unrelated thoughts on the player:

- I'd like to know the dollar value of any KHL or other overseas leagues offers sitting on the table for Rieder.

- He's gotten a big push with Team Europe, taking Gaborik's spot on the 2nd line and being used as a regular PKer.

You really don't get it, do you? You come to board every once in awhile to spout off negatives on how the Coyotes run their business. Worry about your own team.

This 100%

The guy you are responding to loves to troll Coyotes threads so I wouldn't worry about the amount of thought put into some posts.

Rieder's initial ask was stupid high and the Coyotes are holding firm at their price, so we do the dance.

2.2 per for 2 years seems fine for him. Far better players took smaller bridges at some point so it can't be just about the money , can it ?

Rieder is not asking what Hampus Lindholm is asking. Call a spade a spade.

One, do you know what Lindholm is asking for? If so, please point me to the source. Two, Lindholm has a hell of a lot more leverage in contract negotiations since he's not replaceable; we're talking about a guy superior to Morgan Rielly (and I'm a Leafs fan.)

Rieder's well within his rights as an RFA to do what he's doing, and the Coyotes are within their rights to tell him to go pound sand for having an inflated sense of self-worth.
