Nope. I'm right:

J.T. Miller - 23yrs - 196gp-0.39ppg-2yrs-$2.75avg
Kevin Hayes-24yrs-158gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.60avg
Marcus Foligno-24yrs-267gp-0.35ppg-1yr-$2.25avg

Johan Larsson-23yrs-142gp-0.26ppg-1yr-$1.00avg

Tobias Rieder-23yrs-154gp-0.38ppg-0yrs-$0.00avg

The averages for that group:

Comp. Avg-23yrs-193gp-0.39ppg-2.5yrs-$2.33avg

^^ I'll add Girgensens and Strome at some point. I don't think it'll move the needle on the averages, though.

To play devil's advocate here, I think there's more to this argument than ppg over a 2/3 year period.

Nope. Look at the names. Most are also good defensively and play PK mins. He's middle of the pack and his numbers are pretty much exactly that average. There's not more to it. That's his worth. I'm just correct and there's no need to argue.

This is a pretty accurate assessment of his salary level, 2-2.3 mill. I think the hang up is years. In this group, there are two 6 year deals and one 1 year. The rest are 2 year deals. I suspect the Coyotes want longer term than 2 years while Reider wants 2 years only. They will work it out and he will sign, likely in the next few weeks.

so the split is half a million, this should get done. Im really liking the new coyotes gm, making aggressive moves and so far isnt being pushed around by anyone

One would hope that both sides could land on the mid-point between the 4.4 offer and the 5.0 ask. I mean, 4.7 sounds like a pretty natural meeting point. I worry about the loud mouth agent taking negotiations public. I doubt that softens Chayka's stance. He'd probably have had a better chance of seeing that 4.4 offer become a 4.7 offer if he hadn't decided to blab his fat mouth to the media.

Most of these players contribute to their team's PK and most of these players are good defensively. There are actually only a few who aren't good defensively and don't contribute to their team's PKs.

They all signed RFA deals this summer.

Let's look at the averages:

Age: 23
GP: 194
PPG: 0.40
Contract Yrs: 2
Contract Avg: $2.25

Let's look at Rieder by comparison:

Age: 23
GP: 154 (Ranks 11/13)
PPG: 0.38 (Ranks 8/13)

His age is average among the group, he's a little greener than the average, and a little less productive. He's not above average (specifically for this group) in terms of defensive play and PK ability (I'll say average).

He is absolutely a 2yr, 4.5m, 2.25avg RFA signing this summer. Of that there is no question of any kind. That's a fact. I've said that his ask of 2yr, 5m, 2.5avg is 10% over value. I was correct. That's crystal clear. He's asking for exactly 10% too much. The Coyotes current offer is 2% below his value. They're 2% under, he's 10% over.

This is the fault of the player, not the club. If his side hadn't been so wildly incorrect on their valuation and if they weren't currently so unwilling to budge on their demands, and if they hadn't run to the media, the odds are the Coyotes would've been willing to overpay this player. Maybe by as much as 5% but they played their cards all wrong. Now they're looking at signing in Russia like dumb suckers. Rieder needs to fire is agent before the end of day, accept Chayka's last best offer, and privately apologize. Or he can enjoy Magnitogorsk or Vladivostok with the rest of the chumps.

He's worth 4.5 over two. The team offers 4.4 over two and he demands a trade.

This is the second time he's demanded a trade. He's had two NHL clubs and demanded a trade from each. He's only been an NHL player for a whopping two seasons. His agent is absolutely poisoning this kid's professional reputation. He's aways going to be looked at as a pain in the ass and as damaged goods. And for what? For what?

Requesting a trade because you're $300k apart after speaking about the negotiations publicly? That is not a good agent, imo.

Technically it's 600kay, but I agree. Yotes would've likely been more apt to meet in the middle before the media shenanigans. Now they really can't budge. No trade, no negotiations. Agent has left two options on the table; take the deal or sign in Russia.

The $2.2M part is speculation, isn't it? Sounds like he was told "they're holding firm on low 2's" and he's saying "maybe something like $2.2M?"

Requesting to get traded off the Oilers because he doesn't think there's room for him to get handed a spot in the lineup, and then requesting a trade from the Coyotes because they are 600K apart in a $5M deal.

Can't see another team taking a chance with him.

Yes, this few years into his career he's already asked for a trade from two teams. He's either getting bad advice or he's a problem.

I don't care if I ever see him in a Coyote jersey again. He's a decent player but far from irreplaceable.

I'd just say bye bye to this guy. These are dime a dozen and he seems like a pain in the ass.

Ya 2 trade requests and only 2 years in the NHL. He's got to be reaching the point already where teams won't want him. I know I'm not trading for a guy who's first reaction is to demand out

I love it when workers uses the very few rights they have to better themselves before even those are gone for many years.

Is he going to be good? Or is he good already?

He is good already, but he needed another season of solid work before earning the big deal. His agent is a moron, and thinks what he has done so far is enough to play hardball with the Coyotes. Chayka is a new GM and is going to use Rieder as an example by letting him rot. I'll be disappointed if they trade him. It's not about value anymore, it's about principles.

Come at the club when you've got some status. Even Boedker, who had a far better resume than Rieder at the time of his demands, was smart enough to keep things out of the papers.

Rieder is either telling the agent what to do or is okay with his course of actions, which means Rieder is of questionable intelligence. It has nothing to do with "muh rights", as if that excuse is enough to shield someone from criticism. It has everything to do with a player that hasn't put in the time with the organization suddenly being a massive pain in the ass..

Let him rot.

I'd probably steer away from him at this point. Another trade request...better hope to lock this guy up for 8 years when you re-sign him.
