Didn't Reider ask for a trade from the Oilers? This guy is a great player but damn if he doesn't want to call all the shots.

Ya, he demanded a trade to Arizona because he didn't think he'd get enough of a shot in our top 6. He's not the type of player I'd want around my team

There were rumors at the time about him asking for higher salary because he wanted to go to a team with less skilled forward depth. The irony being that we could actually use him on our 2nd line now.

Maybe a couple years ago, but unless he switched to left wing, he's not even looking at a spot in the top 9. And even at left wing, he's gotta battle Maroon for the 3rd line spot. The funny thing is, if he stuck with us, he would have already secured one of those spots, and we would've already paid him, so he wouldn't be in this situation

Not sure why this is being basically reported again, it was reported months ago they he won't be and probably even can't due to visa issues attend the camp.

Did he really say that? Reider seems to have Tippet's favour. I see him on the second line and Vrbata bumped off if anyone.

Yup he did say that. He didn't see himself making the Oilers at the time due to the influx of similar type players to him in the top 6..so he requested a trade. Kid developed into a solid 3LW..and looked very good on Drasaitl's wing on Team Europe...

Who would he be battling with at RW? Eberle is clearly ahead, but if we still had Reider, we wouldn't need to sign Versteeg, and it would be either him or Yak on the 2nd line. We could also use him for when Pouliot gets hurt, it isn't a matter of if with him, its when.

If we acquired him today, he's behind Eberle, Pulju, Versteeg, Lucic, and Pouliot, and battling with Maroon, Yakupov, Kassian, and Hendricks. We have no room for him

The emergence of Domi and Martinook, signing of McGinn and surplus of LW prospect depth (Crouse/Perlini) has made Reider expendable.

Martinook, in particular, plays a very similar game as Reider with arguably more upside.

Martinook doesn't have the upside. Rieder is at least a 40pt PK LW with an uncanny penchant for break aways. That's always going to be valuable. Like a new Radek Dvorak.

Man I hated that guy! Dvorak was like your typical middle6'r who just seemed to find good ice in Vancouver every time the Yotes would visit.
Rieder was one of your top goal scorers was he not? A team who clamoured for goal scoring all last season and offseason shouldn't be so quick to cast aside a 20 goal guy. I understand money can always be an issue for your team if the players have too high an opinion of themselves but I'd think your playoff chances are higher with Tobias on the team rather than not.

Unless I'm crazy...it does. This isn't bank breaking stuff but there may be some sorta of internal financial cap that we aren't totally aware of.

Chayka said he's looking for term with Rieder which he and his agent don't want to agree to, so the budgetary conspiracy theories don't hold much water.

I wonder if a deal around Nichushkin and Reider would be of interest for Arizona? Dallas would probably add.

He scored 37 pts last year....2.5M as an RFA is about fair - not an overpayment.

Nope. I'm right:

^^ I'll add Girgensens and Strome at some point. I don't think it'll move the needle on the averages, though.
