Looks like Liljegren isn't coming back up until they make a trade and no guarantees that happens soon. I doubt Liljegren is impressed with whats going on here.

This is a really, really strange move and I wonder if Keefe is just trying to not tip the team's hand for trades/other moves. I get that they like Brooks, I like him to, but this is a guy they waived a few months ago. Is a currently injured 13th forward more important than Liljegren right now?

Jesus, why not just let Vegas waive him and send them like a 7th to bring him directly to the Marlies.

Granted, Keefe saying "until the cap can be cleaned up" doesn't necessarily mean he's gone until they can accumulate the cap space on March 2nd. There could be a trade tomorrow and Liljegren misses one game, for all we know.

both those guys have NMC they cannot be waived without permission. This is the most logical and least roster disrupting move. I’m sure they have explained it to Liljegren. This happens around the league all the time not sure why it’s such a big deal
It's not a big deal, he'll be back soon enough.
Seems like some worry more about young Timmy then they do about the Team.

At the end of the day they have control of Liljegren he’s the least of their worries. You need Holl/Dermott to play either to gain confidence and get better or to show case him and move him. This is nothing new.

Liljegren is not the difference between us winning and losing games. So I don’t know why people are freaking out. He’ll play with the Marlies, kill it and be back up once we can be cap compliant.

Yeah I just listened to Keefe's presser and if you read between the lines, there might be a move soon. He said something like "this is Kyle's decision and he said these are the players we have available for today's game". The "today's game" part should be emphsized.

Holl can be traded anytime.

The 'simple stuff' is realizing that the Leafs don't see a need to trade him.
Holl is not wanted around league at 2M AAV for next year .. yes he could be traded at 750K as a 6th/7th guy but Dubie does not want to give up a pick for someone to retain da AAV .. and it is complete mismanagement by Dubie playing Holl over Lily .. put Holl on waivers .. he will pass through easy like Ritchie and then send to minors to free up more CAP room .. it is beyond STUPID .. it borders on an EGO problem

With Brooks on waivers, looks like it was just a one game thing for Liljegren which is fine.

They do need to cycle Dermott in and let him play if there’s any hope of recovering trade value for him and Lilly is the easy guy to rotate out. Hopefully this means by the end of the weekend one of Ritchie or Dermott are moved in favour of cheaper depth options that allow more roster flexibility and cap accumulation heading into the deadline

Still never expected this. Liljegren is in a serious show me what you got window right now. Disrupting him like this to make amends with Adam Brooks? If Adam Brooks doesn't accept this elaborate apology he's a menace.

what? I’m sorry but this is actually a joke LOL. Even if we didn’t claim brooks and we made a trade and acquired a player or few players, Liljegren was the player who was going to be sent down. He is WAIVER EXEMPT! It has nothing to do with his play.

additionally even as the harshest Liljegren critic. I even understand that this is not the end of the road for Liljegren. He is an RFA we have control over his rights for an extended period of time. Who cares if he gets sent down he’ll be back up at some point.

It's not a joke that I'm shocked Liljegren isn't playing tonight because we re-claimed Adam Brooks. If any of you predicted that happening you're lying.

I was being a clown for the rest yes.

Or they just thought that rotating dermott in for one game like they want to do from time to time anyways was a cheap price to pay to pick up Brooks again.

Show your work.
Dubie tried to get a 1st round pick for Dermy and was turned down by entire league .. he also wanted to trade Holl for a league minimum D plus a pick and was turned down by entire league .. no team in NHL wanted either guy at those prices .. this has been going round with da kids for months now it is old news

Could be. I saw this game as a big one for Dubas' assessment of Liljegren though. His decision with him also impacts the trade deadline plans. We only have 2 games left now against East playoff teams before the deadline.

The "shock" which is more of an exaggeration is that Adam Brooks was the last name I'd have thought of to be a precursor to this maneuvering. Seems like that ship has sailed. Would have expected it be due to someone else. So it seems they truly are high on him as a future depth player and glad for a round 2.

This is how I see it, they need to keep rotating the guys in and out until someone is moved, so sending Lilly down which they probably would have on paper anyways on off days & days Dermott plays over him is inconsequential.
As long as room is made to have him up and active going forward then it’s fine.
I’m sure it was explained to Tim that this was a very temporary situation and with Brooks being sent down today to try and squeeze him through waivers shows that is the case.

I really don't think one game of Liljegren's will affect Dubas' evaluation of him or his deadline plan whatsoever.

It's pretty clear he's been insanely effective most of the season, but really picked it up lately. Look no further than him being ahead of guys like Raymond and Zegras in GAR lol

I really don't think it does, if Dubas & co are willing to go into the trade deadline with Liljegren as our #4 they deserve to be fired. Not because Liljegren is bad, but because you need depth and Liljegren just isn't ready TODAY to carry that role. Let him feast on the third pairing

I agree as of this moment Lil is their no.6.

I think my Brooks comment was taken the wrong way. All I meant was that Liljegrens development is in "priority" mode. So to send him down and deal with this maneuvering, the waiver claim needs to hit a certain threshold to make him say "okay fineeeeeee, where do I sign". Brooks meeting that threshold was unexpected. But glad to see him get another shot and wishing him the best.

I don't buy it has anything to do with Dermott. They'd give this game to Lil to get him ready for the playoffs if Brooks was never put on waivers for us to claim.

*him = Dubas

I’m about as pro-Lili as it gets.
He has one fumbled pass a game, one stumble a game, and about one bad-luck clear attempt, but the rest is tidying up nice.
His confidence is visibly growing. He stopped being shy about using his body about 10 games ago and is getting more and more physical one-on-one, clearing the net front, and along the boards. He’s realizing he’s strong. Plus, his pinches along the wall are effective and timely, leading to a few goals recently. Really like how his games emerging.

Dude, too lazy to post about this guy
bod. Liljegren. And am so lazy today, I only read half your post.

But your opening six lines sealed the deal for me.

I don't know what it is about this player, don't what is was about Kadri, what is was about Marchment. What is was about Rick fuggin Kehoe.

If anyone liked Kadri more than myself, love to meet up with him or her.

Marchment?

I mean what was Dubas missing?

ATTITUDE? Check, check, check.

I told everyone, get Ryan O REILLY. just get the guy somehow.

LILJEGREN right in front of our eyes, is turning into a larry robinson.

If we trade him I will make it official , I will burn a Keon jersey or something lol.

Thank god Dubas signed Rielly for peanuts. Thank god.

Trading young larry robinson, liljegren? Lol,, that would pretty well be it for me,

What is present day liljegren worth today? Future liljegren? do your dd on larry robinson. I smell a larry here. Big time. I bet Steve Yzerman does as well
