Agreed. Need Muzzin back then get back to Muzzin/Liljegren, Dermott/Sandin
Muzzin-Liljegren
Sandin-Holl
Fire dermott into the sun, regain some draft capital and save some cap then bring in a steady sub 1m vet 6/7 like Luke Schenn to be the sub in option.
Swap Holl and Liljegren as needed, after a tough start Holl has been better of late and looking more like his old self

Guys on overdrive, primarily Hayes, being overtly negative regarding Liljegren again just a few mins ago. There was a valid point there being made, but I don’t understand why he feels like he always has to frame it the way he does with Liljegren. Liljegren has not been played enough yet to not have mistakes in his game tbh, he needs experience. Sandin is no better defensively.

What a weirdo. I mean, I understand other fanbases shitting on Liljegren...he fell in the draft and they don't want to see a faller, who their team may have passed on, do well. But him? Makes no sense not cheering for one of your teams young players. Lily's not lazy nor an a-hole nor makes egregious error or anything that would warrant such chronic negativity.

It's becoming infuriating to listen to. Sandin is out of position WAY more IMO and they won't harp on that. I am a huge overdrive fan, but this is getting out of hand.

I'm not sure what Liljegren did to make Hayes and even Jeff so mad at him. Bunkis has now resorted to taking shots at the Liljegren supporters on his show.

That flub is the type of thing that will be less frequent as he ages and gets more experience.
Pretty much. He'll be fine. Has he dipped a bit? Sure but that was expected from a rookie d man who literally just became an NHL d man. His progression has been really good.

The fact Keefe hasn't benched him is a positive for him, because he knows youngsters will make mistakes. I will say though someone struggling with Dermott is becoming a pattern. Dermott has been terrible for a while now.

Half a season to go. It will be on him to prove they can trust him as no.6 in the playoffs.

Not a fan of tonights mistakes. Those aren't learning mistakes. He was fundamentally and technically flawed. Gotta clean up for next game.

*Before hate police comes out that's a one-game exclusive comment.

Seen enough of Dermott, use him as neutral/positive cap ballast to significantly upgrade the top 4.
Absolutely.

And I had such high hopes for him. But every touch of the puck looks panicked, and he gets walked at a rate that would make Phaneuf give him the thumbs up.

Probably just stems from lazy reporting based on the idea that LA wanted Durzi over Liljegren so he's a bust and then got the online push back.

Liljegren looks serviceable but can also look pretty rough. But that's what growing pains are.

Some good tonight
Some bad to

About what i expect out of a young player but the talent is there, he just needs to clean up some fundamentals

He tried to stand up Johnsson tonight after he misplayed the bouncing puck like I thought he should of on the Parise goal but a different player in a different situation and he got burned because of it

He's learning, it's just a matter of using those defensive techniques in the correct situation which will only come with experience and being burned a few times

These growing pains are going to be worth it in a season or two's time

He’s so close, but for now, he’s still the weakest link in our defence. You can definitely see the talent and upside, and he plays well most of the game, but he does make bad mistakes too often.

That'll change with experience, and I don’t mind the gaffes too much in the regular season, but don’t think I’d want to rely on him in the playoffs. If we’re making a trade deadline acquisition, I’d want to go after a quality 2nd pair RD, personally. Someone like Petry or Manson.

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Petry/Manson
Sandin - Holl

That’s a D that gives us a legit shot to make it through Tampa/Florida. But Liljegren, at his current experience level, in the playoffs against teams like that, I think he’d get worked for quite a few goals against. Get him lots of reps in the regular season, and we can probably rely on him in the playoffs a year from now, but at the moment he’s not quite there IMO.

I don’t know how anyone can honestly say he’s better than Sandin. Liljegren probably won’t play consistently for us in the playoffs after upgrades. The mistakes are too costly at this point. Just not strong enough defensively.

i quite liked the Sandin - Holl pairing. I’m sure Liljegren will develop with time but he isn’t there yet. Not even close

Sandin and Liljegren are both better than Dermott. If we can play Dermott in the playoffs, which cost us the series against Montreal, we can play our two young Swedes.

Had a very rough defensive game together with Sandin last night but they are kids .. good learnings for both .. they struggle against SPEED .. nothing new here .. same old same old

We didn’t have the option to scratch them, they had to play. Dubas didn’t upgrade the defense.

If we upgrade our D on the right side, Liljegren is the healthy scratch do not fool yourself. He’s not playing over Holl in the playoffs. He’ll get lots of playing time to finish the regular season but i don’t anticipate he’ll be playing a lot if Holl is still here and we upgrade that defensive position at the deadline

I don’t think you’re wrong. I just trust Dermott the least of all our defensemen. Rocks for brains, jittery, slight, and doesn’t bring anything offensively. He’s Jake Gardiner but worse in every aspect (Jake was at least a very good player for awhile).
