You believe they had a choice?

Dreger is pretty accurate, he mentioned it. Durzi is a late bloomer, was very small in minor midget compared to his peers on the Mississauga Rebels. Do I think LA Kings were correct chosing Durzi over Liljegren ? Yes. The notion that Liljegren dropped in the draft due to Mono is 100% false.

Yikes to that concept. Dregs is blowhard who hasn’t had an inside scoop since cousin Dave got ran out of town, and who lost all credibility shilling for Paul Marner during Mitchys contract negotiations. liljegren was never on the table in a package for muzz.

I like both of our young defensemen. I think Liljegren will top out being a better player than Sandin. TL is bigger, stronger, as good as - if not a better - skater than Sandin. I'll give the nod to Rasmus with respect to his 'smarts', but I'm of the opinion the difference between the two is not that wide. Where the better part of the separation occurs is through confidence. RS is gifted with strong self-belief. TL less so. I see Sandin topping out as a very good 2nd pairing guy, but his lack of skating ability stops me from believing he can be a good first pairing fella. Liljegren, too, should prove to be a strong 2nd pairing Dman, but his strength and what I see as having 'better defensive promise' helps me think he could do well with a solid O type guy on a first pair. I think Sandin will get to his best more quickly, Liljegren taking longer, but having the higher ceiling, by a bit.

I hadn’t heard that, you think it would have came up before now. Where can we read this ?

Liljegren’s goal was such a laser. He really has all the skill in the world. If only the Leafs fed him some offensive zone time and 2nd PP opportunities, his offensive game would really develop.

Honestly, if our power play wasn’t like top of the league as it is, I would have no issue with the idea of putting both Sandin and Liljegren on pp2

Liljegren needs playing time and to build his confidence. It has been reported multiple times that Liljegren has all the skill in the world but is really hard on himself and struggles with the mental game. Just like Campbell has early in his career.

Basically he had a month between games and it not fair to expect a 22 year old to jump back into the fray and be all world. He had some mistakes-listen to his post game but he also did a lot of really good things-laser from the blue line, bodied a few STL players and was a rock in the final 2 minutes. He has already surpassed Holl in my books.

It’s fortunate/unfortunate that Neimela will be another season away but those two could be really dynamic on the right side. I just wish we had some up and coming bigger bodies on the Left side to offset them.

He was fine last game, I went in to the game with a mindset to focus on him and see how he looked after an extended break and back in a more difficult role. But honestly it was hard to read a lot into it, Muzzin was such a disaster with bad reads and turnovers Lily never had a chance to look good.

Lilly's game is entirely based on confidence. He developed a strong confidence at the AHL level over his time with the Marlies, but he was never given the opportunity to develop that confidence at the NHL level until this year. This has been the first year where Timmy has been able to make a mistake and not immediately get sent down or benched.

I think we are going to see a very strong finish to the year for Timmy, and I genuinely think the sky is the limit for this guy. You can tell he is gaining the trust from Keefe and the staff

All these criticisms of our kiddie D corp is kinda really stupid folks ... fans who have zero idea how long it takes to make jump and learn NHL D .. NHL D is hardest position to play in hockey .. a lot of you need to take chill pills as my sons say .. after his 5th year playing NHL hockey then we can start to figure out what he will be

Are your sons in their mid-40s?

I'm glad they kept Lilly over Durzi.

That Muzzin trade is looking like a steal

i wouldn't say it's a steal. Durzi is looking like an NHLer with upside, Tobias Bjornfot is a solid, reliable defenseman and Grundstrom looks like he's a player. It wasn't a steal by any means, but it was a fair trade that filled needs for both teams.

6 years of Top 4 NHL D-man during your Cup window for 3rd pairing D, bottom 6 winger and developing D with upside is a win right now. Teams have given up a lot more for far less.(Leafs last tdl)

I agree with this. Muzzin also looks like he is physically slowing down already, which is not surprising given his play style and history of back issues, which were well known at the time of the trade as well.

Agreed. Seems to have worked out well all around.

I just don't get the obsession over Sean Durzi. He's a great offensive d-man but defensively he's a mess still. If he was in the Leafs system, he doesn't see daylight on the big club. Kings entire D-core beyond Doughty and Roy are a bunch of #7 d-men and rookies. Durzi is the best of what they have but he isn't above Sandin/Dermott/Lilly. I think people need to calm down a little bit.

Yep, tidy trade on both sides, really good move for both. Durzi is looking like a real nice player for them.
Yeah Durzi would have been great to have retained, he would have been a useful callup.
All good, have to give to get.

for sure, it also doesn't help Muzzin has basically not played healthy the last 3 years. Can't imagine what he's put his body through

when we actually win rounds and make a deep run then I can get behind saying it's a "steal" / "win". Considering we lost Muzzin for two playoff series, I think it's been an even deal. I don't think anyone can really classify it as a win for either side. We have no idea what those 3 players for the Kings can become, the kids have an influx of talent coming up that team is going to be good again in a few years. For the leafs we haven't had a full series with Muzzin, so it's hard to determine the full value or impact he potentially can have.
