Timothy Liljegren is really frickin good now

Liljegren is developing into a very nice top 4 Dman. people are going to talk shit because that's what they do when it has to do with the Leafs yet when it comes to the Blue Jays or Raptors they are all over Toronto's balls
I actually dislike all three teams

I like his shot but he'a a little B in his own zone like sandin and the rest of their blue line and team.
As of Jan 25, only one dman in the league had been on the ice for fewer GA/min at 5 v 5.

Since the start of last season... Five players have played more 5v5 minutes than Liljegren and have a better GF%: Grzelcyk - McAvoy Toews - Makar Spurgeon

Three players have played more 5v5 minutes than Liljegren and have a better xGF%: Grzelcyk - McAvoy Slavin

Again, this was all Jan 25.

It’s basically his second season in the league.

Comparing Liljegren to a bunch of other 2017 D tells me there's a lot of "really frickin good" 2017 draft NHL D men apparently.

Out of nowhere. This guys a certified stud.
Out of nowhere? What was it, 4 or 5 years ago I was told he had a shot at winning the next years Calder trophy. Hardly out of nowhere, as a matter of fact, that would make him late to the party to the people who were expecting that. But it sounds like he’s on the right track and followed the same kind of trajectory most players do.

I don't think he'd be talked about much if he wasn't a Leafs player.

On the contrary I think he'd be talked about as one of the biggest steals of his draft class if he wasn't a Leafs player. When it comes to anything Leafs there's only two opinions.

Leafs nation - Homer bias
Fans of all other 31 teams - Hate the leafs, anti-leafs bias

We saw the same thing happen with Kessel, Kadri, Hyman immediately after they left. They were torn to shreds by every non-leaf fan base when they were in Toronto, but as soon as they left they were considered elite players and everyone saw the talent they had, and we were told we are fools for letting them go.

When we had Kessel: "Soft, 1 dimensional, over rated, only puts up points because of toi"

When we had Kadri: "Over rated, inflated numbers because of the team he plays on, over rated defensively, liability in the playoffs"

When we had Hyman: "Carried by Matthews and Marner. Over rated Leaf who is a bottom 6 player on other teams, nothing more than a bottom 6 grinder"

You either love the Leafs or you hate the Leafs, there is no in between. Lily is a great young player and I'm glad we have him. For all the Leaf haters out there, we love the salt keep it coming.

Not even worth engaging with people in this thread. If someone doesn't think Liljegren is a stud they don't watch the player and their opinion is invalid.

Every fan base would love having this kid in their top 4. He is going to be a top pairing dmen for a long time.

Am I missing something? He has 13 points in 41 games - over a full season he's pacing for 26.

Decent numbers for a middle pairing guy but you can't seriously tell me you'd be excited to pay him 7+ mil a year as a top pairing dman.

Leafs fans were posting Kessel vs Crosby polls when he was a leaf. The problem is Leaf fans. It’s always been Leaf fans. Can’t just be happy to have good players they have to be the best. You think this kid is the only young guy playing 18 minutes a night in the nhl successfully? This thread is just another example.

He’s having the most legendary sub 30 point sub 20 min a night season for any young D man in history. Keep up.

Please tell me where I said that, like anywhere.

There is no "problem" people like you hate the Leafs, people like me love the Leafs. This will happen for as long as we are both alive.

This thread is just another example of people who hate the leafs and don't even watch the leafs, just shitting on the leafs. The takes in here are hilarious, keep them coming.

He gets 0 PP time and is the strongest defensively on the Leafs after Brodie.

He's legit

You said you believe he would be talked about even more if he wasn’t a leaf. I disagree. 0 threads on him if he plays for anyone else.

Weren't there similar comments made about Jack Campbell after he signed in Edmonton and Leafs fans were told don't be angry over him leaving as a UFA.

Except in his case it was the opposite, Leaf fans were the only ones telling people how garbage he'd been since December. We were told we were fools, Campbell was apparently going to win the Vezina.

Any player we have = Sucks, over rated
When he leaves = Goat

All this thread is doing is just showing how little these guys actually watch our games

This reads like all the Dermott posts when he was putting up good fancy stats in bottom pairing minutes.

Been a few days since I posted. Want to make sure that this guy still is "really freaking good." Ok thank you.

This. Too bad the search function is disabled right now because I remember some great posts i’d love to go look at that this thread is reminding me of.
