I will. I am going to post a little tonight (and gloat a little) then I will be gone until the draft - minus posting in the entertainment thread. I was going to leave anyway but the "reverse curse" worked. ;)

See you in July for CFL kickoff. ;)

Amen, brother.

I've lost interest in the NHL and with no tournaments that interest me between now and the summer, I might as well give the HF posters a break. ;)

Don't watch much OHL so I haven't seen as much of him as you all. Sure fun to watch him in WJC though. Seems like a humble kid too...hard not to root for him. I hope he can avoid the injury bug, and he lands in a hockey city that embraces him.

Please don't leave. Who will get under the skin of the American posters?

You still have Ray Ferraro.

I am getting too old for this stuff. Every time I think of going on HF, I am going to exercise/read/write/play chess instead. Put my time to better use. Everything has to be better than this. Knowing me, I won't have the strength to stay away but I am going to really try.

Canada has the Olympic Gold (both Men and Women), World Cup Gold, World Junior Gold and we still make up 50% of the NHL. Time to leave while we are on top.

I wish you well Alberta Tough.

Well I look forward to reading your posts at draft time.

Have a great year, as its started out well for Canadian hockey fans.

Didn't you quit during the Olympics too. I don't say that to be rude, but to say that we all get caught up in the tournament drama. Who cares about whether you post around here or not based on a promise to internet strangers? Do what is best for you.

Not me.

You're right but I decided to do it long ago. It is too time consuming and there is little upside / it has gotten old. Just made the promise in this thread as a "reverse curse" (it may only make sense in my little mind) so McDavid would do well and Canada would win. Time to move on.

P.S. I will stick around tonight and tomorrow for one last gloat. :)

Sorry, I thought you were the poster formerly known as KevyD. I remember he said he was going to stop watching after Canada barely bested Latvia in the QF. My apologies.

LOL. I am.

Maybe I did say that. If I did, then that was out of frustration, this time I am sincere. ;) Anyway, I may be back come draft time and everyone could use the break from KevyD. :)

Op should become a HF partner with that dramatic title.

McDavid has played great and only the haters will say he only scored against weak teams.

Happens with all the greats, just go to the main board and look at the Crosby only has 2 goals blah blah blah garbage.

In reality he gotten better as the tournament has gone on and has been one of the best in the tourney despite being 2 years younger than some of the other kids.

and despite just coming back, just prior to the tourney's start, from a Broken Hand!

PS: I broke my right hand ( among many other things ) twice, many years ago, it's still not right, one of the knuckles is way outa place...just sayin...

Talent wise, Eichel is every bit as talented as McDavid. However, what makes McDavid better and what will likely lead to him having a better NHL career is his drive.

He is always going full speed. He can get gritty if necessary. He is an absolute puck hound. Where as Eichel is passive. He rarely was full throttle into the boards to fight for the puck. I really didn't like that about his game. Eichel will be a very good player, but McDavid has the motor that Crosby use to have. World class skill with the energy of a grinder.
I don't think so. Doesn't mean Eichel is not talented, I just don't think he is as talented as McDavid.

Greatzky had 7g 8a for 17pts in 8gms as a 17.

There is only one Great One. Hear that Zidny fanboys? Eh? Ya hear me?

Gretzky was only 16 when he put up those numbers!!!:laugh: If I'm not mistaken he was still eligible for the tourney the season he broke the NHL record for most points in a season.

Seriously though McDavid is going to be good.

Totally agree about McDavid. There is an electrifying presence that he has that I don't think Crosby quite had.

He definitely seems to be the best prospect since Crosby. His game seems to be more reliant on speed and creativity when given time and space. It will be interesting to see if it translates as well as Crosby's style did. Malkin and OV are also praised for having a superior presence.

I think you hit the nail on the head. He is very dangerous when he has any time and space. However, I think there are questions marks about his ability to play in a physical game (think SCF against LA Kings). Crosby, Tavares, Toews and Kane are almost stronger players in traffic than in open space. McDavid seems more like Tyler Seguin or Phil Kessel in he needs to be free and clear of contact to make a play.

That is not a small difference. It is essentially the difference between Wayne Gretzky and Pierre Turgeon.

With all due respect to Eichel, who I am sure will have a great NHL career, I think McDavid is scary elite.

Would anyone have actually thought differently about McDavid if Canada had lost 5-0 tonight?

I think so. What he did in the Slovakia game really made my jaw drop. Not because the Slovaks were so highly skilled or anything, but because of how he created space where there was none, and how he seemed to see every play develop five seconds before it did. Just freakish anticipation.

I nominate myself.

Yes, Gretzky was 16. But before 1988-90ish, this tournament wasn't even a thing for a lot of countries, and Canada was really bad in it for the most part. It was not taken seriously at all. The coaches treated it as a hockey holiday and the players were often second rate. Some kids even declined because they didn't want to miss the holidays. Mario Lemieux even refused to go one year because he did not like the coach IIRC. Now everyone is trained, coached, and knows what the tourney is about. No disrespect to Gretz, but it really is apples to oranges comparing this tourney in the 70's and 80's to now.

Connor McDavid is a threat everytime he is on the ice. A gamebreaker. Enough said.

I think that it what impressed me the most. It seemed like every time he touched the puck, there was a chance to score.
