Guys, I have no reason to root against the kid. Nothing would make me happier than to see him have a hat trick - or another 3 assist night. Let's just see him do it.

If you're expecting 3 points against an excellent Russian team then you're probably going to be disappointed. That would certainly make the tournament a legendary one for him, but all I'm hoping for is that he creates a few good chances. If he picks up any points that's a bonus.

I really, really pride myself in not just looking at point totals, but at the way the kid plays the game, his anticipation, his ability to get open and find linemates, etc.

For that reason, McDavid 2015>Crosby 2005.

Anyone who knows me knows I am not going to throw Sid under the bus for anything. I have been called his biggest fanboy and worse.

But what I see from McDavid, I have not seen from Crosby or anyone else in a long, long time. Crosby is the most skilled grinder ever, McDavid and what he is able to do at 17 defies labeling.

I am going on record right here and now and saying that McDavid will outscore Sidney Crosby as a professional at some point.

This kid is the real deal. His hockey is in his head, and his body is catching up. Whatever hype has been heaped on him....it isn't enough.

We are witnessing the emergence of what we as Canadians have been waiting for since Mario Lemieux, in my opinion.

This McDavid vs Eichel thing is going to look ridiculous five years from now.

He doesn't have to do anything tonight for me to change my opinion. I saw all I need to know in the last couple of games.

+1 :handclap:

I'm a huge Crosby fan too but McDavid will be the best player in the NHL very soon.

He is going to be a saviour for some lucky team.

Totally agree about McDavid. There is an electrifying presence that he has that I don't think Crosby quite had. He just never seems to take a shift off.

I agree, the McDavid vs. Eichel thing if it doesn't already look a little silly will look very silly in a few years. Remember when people thought Kessel was comparable to Crosby in 2005? Yeah, same thing there.

McDavid is definitely the real deal. You can honestly see him making the World Cup team in 2016.

He didn't have a ton of minutes tonight, but that goal was huge.

Imagine what he would do to this tournament if he played in it from two years from now? That'll never happen, of course.

Someone is getting a gem.

I will. I am going to post a little tonight (and gloat a little) then I will be gone until the draft - minus posting in the entertainment thread. I was going to leave anyway but the "reverse curse" worked. ;)

McDavid finishes tied for first in tournament scoring as a 17 year old. HFBoards: "He's nothing special."

Ya With such an awful showing during these WJC his draft ranking is for sure going to drop to around ,What do you say HFBOARDS, 3rd OA.:sarcasm:

Sounds about right, but OA is not the right abbreviation for round...it's rnd, I think.

And he is officially retired from juniors. First appeared in 2013 as a 16 year old. Tore it up as a matured 17 year old. Now on to bigger and better things with MacT and the oilers extravaganza-featuring the flaming juggler: Andrew Ference.

Well, that is kind of a kick in the junk. I was hoping it was Gretzky or some all-timer like that.

Here's to hoping McDavid has a better pro career. LOL

He wasn't being serious.

Dale Hawerchuk and Bobby Carpenter were both part of a 6-way tie for the lead at age 17 in 1981. Gretzky in 1978 also did it and was the sole leader. AFAIK, McDavid is the first since then.

Talent wise, Eichel is every bit as talented as McDavid. However, what makes McDavid better and what will likely lead to him having a better NHL career is his drive.

He is always going full speed. He can get gritty if necessary. He is an absolute puck hound. Where as Eichel is passive. He rarely was full throttle into the boards to fight for the puck. I really didn't like that about his game. Eichel will be a very good player, but McDavid has the motor that Crosby use to have. World class skill with the energy of a grinder.
