I also consider this tournament irrelevant for the most part. Entertaining, I like it, but largely irrelevant , and people put too much importance on it.

People should see this thread in the same light but posters seem to be taking it personally. Again, I just want to see McDavid have a big game. If he doesn't, the naysayers will say he lit it up against the weak teams and disappeared against the strong. And.... They will be right.

Again, I just want McDavid to live up to the standard everyone is attributing to him based on the last 2 games. Do I expect 3 points? No. Just make a difference in a positive way. Do NOT disappear.

So now that you've come all the way down from "I hope he plays like Crosby!" to "I hope he gets a hat trick or a bunch of assists!" to "I hope he makes a big play!" to "I just hope he plays well!", I'm siding with Mr Writer's thinking that this whole thread is just self-serving emptiness. You ripped Eichel all tournament long so I guess if McDavid doesn't play well and the chickens come home to roost you can dig up this thread and say "see?! I was harsh on McDavid too!".

Which is why I find you singling McDavid out by comparing him against middling performances in the past a real head-scratcher.

Again, it is time for him to step up against a good team.

I only get upset when my wings are not spicy enough and my beer is warm...other than that, I'm cool.

If/When you are in Niagara, buddy, we need to go for wings and have a spicy wing eating competition. You will get smoked. ;)

I am trying to keep up with the endless posts against what I have said. I apologize if I have not been consistent.

My point is... For me, I want to see him have a big game against a top team. Not 3 assists against Denmark and Slovakia. A top game against Russia. Tonight. When it really matters.

What's funny is that those games against Denmark and Slovakia were elimination games.

So they really were the most important games in the tournament to date.

Personally, I think the emphasis on a couple of games in a Junior tournament is vastly overblown.

That goes for Eichel and McDavid.

Pat Falloon and Cody Hodgson would be superstars today if WJC hype translated seamlessly into the real world.

If McDavid disappears tonight, I'm perfectly capable of discounting it.

Russia is a good team. It's one game. And hockey is a team sport.

EHHHH Men! :D

I doubt that..I eat habanero peppers like hershey kisses.

Too many people are taking this personally. I would say the same thing about any player.

Tonight's game is huge - at the risk of stating the obvious. We need everyone to contribute. Especially the wonder kid. If he doesn't, we may see a repeat of the exhibition game against Russia.

I have heard the endless hype about McDavid - to the point where I can't read it anymore. Let's see him perform when it matters.

They are also weak teams. Do you think I want the kid to fail? Of course not. No one would be happier to be wrong than me. Hope he sets the world on fire. Again, if he does, I will leave HF until the Draft. A win-win for everyone.

You're the world traveller - I barely leave Niagara . Come hang out in Niagara one evening. We'll go to Hooters one night and see who wins the competition. Besides, it will be great to meet you after all these years.

The hype around him hasn't been building towards a junior tournament lol. Let's see what he does in the nhl and then decide whether the hype was true or not.

But so far he looks pretty damn great in the tourney :)

Personally, I don't care how he does in the NHL. International tournament mean more to me than anything that could happen in the NHL. I just want him to contribute to a win tonight. I really don't care what it is - back checking that saves a goal, a goal at an important time, a couple of assists. Step up when we need him.

What if he does nothing, and we still win?

Good question. First, I will be happy - obviously. Second, I am a sure a writer, somewhere, will write an article saying he disappeared against the good teams - and he will be right. Last, life will go on but I will be happy because we won.

I am more worried about him disappearing and we lose - thus the thread.

Please.

When Canada loses, it's always the goalie's fault.

I assume you are being sarcastic.

All I want is the kid to step up when we need him most. With all the hype, I doesn't seem like too much to ask. If he doesn't and we lose, I will get no pleasure from it. Why would I?

Well, he's already played very well against the U.S. (good team), Denmark (QF - elimination game), and Slovakia (SF - elimination game vs. good team). He was dominant last night. Keep in mind that he's 17 years old, and coming off a significant injury. In terms of actual on-ice performance, he's already surpassed what Crosby was able to achieve in this tournament (IMO), and this tournament has historically had little bearing on future NHL success, as had already been discussed (there are numerous examples either way). His draft standing won't be affected either way.

I guess we'll be in a position to make a full evaluation at around 11:00 est this evening.

If McDavid doesn't step up BIG TIME tonight, then the question won't be, "will he go 1st overall?", but will become, "will he go in the 1st round?".

I'll believe it if you refrain from a single "I told you so" post on this board after the loss.

Otherwise it'll be pretty clear that there is some pleasure in it for you.

Ridiculously inaccurate.

I am almost hoping some of these elite kids start turning this tournament down. People need a reality check.

Good Lord, in a forum of "know it alls, who are sometimes right", do you really think I want to say "I told you so" more than I want them to win?

If Canada loses, I will be too depressed to post let alone post, "I told you so".

Well, we'll all know for sure in a few hours.

I've seen enough Canadian teams lose not to get depressed after a loss. ;)
