Well, we'll all know for sure in a few hours.

I've seen enough Canadian teams lose not to get depressed after a loss. ;)

It still bothers me. Again, International results mean more to me than anything that happens in the NHL. 5 years is too long between Gold Medals.

Good Lord, in a forum of "know it alls, who are sometimes right", do you really think I want to say "I told you so" more than I want them to win?

If Canada loses, I will be too depressed to post let alone post, "I told you so".

This tournament should not have a significant impact on your mental health!

Honestly you sound like my uncle. Die hard Canada fan who always says we will lose and places bets against us. He does it so he can either celebrate because Canada won or act like he knew something nobody else did if Canada loses. I hate when people do that.

What I am saying is, Crosby was more than a bunch of points against the lesser lights. He held his own against OV and the other top Canadian players in a big game. I want to see McDavid do the same tonight.

If McDavid doesn't, many people will see a bunch of points against the weak sisters and none in the games that mattered.

I guess 3 points in the semi-finals doesn't matter? :shakehead

McDavid has already outscored Crosby at the WJC in their respective draft years.

LOL. I did that for the 2010 GMG game. Best bet I ever lost.

I didn't do it for that reason. I am not lucky in betting. I NEVER win bets. I figured, if I bet against us, it would work in our favour. It did.

It is also one of the reasons I started this thread. I thought of it as a reverse curse.

Believe me, I take no pleasure in seeing Canada lose and I am not going to say, "I told you so".

Forget the Crosby comparison - I was just trying to keep up with answering posts. I just want to see him play well tonight and we win.

The whole point is if you bet against Canada you can't lose because you are happy if Canada wins and win your bet if they don't. Just sack up, say Canada is going to win and McDavid will be fine and if they lose then cry yourself to sleep like a real man. None of this preparing yourself for failure before the game is even started by doubting our players.

I know.

Again, the thread snow balled (in a bad way) but when I started it I saw it as more of a "reverse curse" - with my luck after saying what I did, McDavid would have the game of his life and everyone would tell me I was wrong but I wouldn't care because we won. :)

In 2010, when I placed my bets against Team Canada in the GMG, all my friends questioned my motives - knowing how much I love Canadian Hockey. I explained that everything I bet on loses so hopefully it will work out and Canada would win/I would lose. And, if I won, I would be able to take my family out for a nice dinner to ease my pain.

Thankfully I lost and I happily paid - best bet I ever lost.

Stop it with the superstition people, we need cold, hard facts and we're going to get them today :D.

It's time for Canada's defense to step up. They've played well all tournament, but this Russian team has some real firepower.

When you have that medal placed around your neck, all the hard work will have been worth it.

Of course. Any Canadian fan wants to see him play well. He has played very well this tournament and I don't see why that wouldn't continue.

When I started this thread I really didn't expect it to explode into 4 pages in a short period of time. I just hoped to put it out there and, after we won and McDavid had a great game, posters would tell me I was wrong/stupid but I would chuckle to myself knowing my real motives. Then everyone ripped me a new one. Oh well, a lesson learned on my part.

You're the one who did the comparing. If you must compare at least do it with McDavid's 1st WJC and Crosby's 1st WJC not his 2nd.To do otherwise is blatant bias on your part

I don't care who does what tonite as long as Canada wins.As for McDavid, only a person wearing blinders could fail to see that he has gotten better each game.Is he dominating? No.Is he the best player on Canada? NO.Has he failed to live up to the hype? Again no.He is what he is,a 17yo playing in a 19yo's tournament and doing pretty good.No complaints from me.

This is McDavid's 2nd WJR's.

My motives were silly and impure when I started this thread. Again, I got it in my head that if I started a "reverse curse" thread calling out McDavid to step up, it would pay off. It was superstitious and stupid and I have taken it on the chin because of it. I give.

I agree. He's supposed to be the next big thing, time for him to prove it starting tonight vs. Russia.

Remember one thing, Crosby had 9 points in 6 games on a stacked team in 2005 during his draft year. He wasn't "THE" guy on the team. Bergeron was the MVP and our best player. Not that Crosby didn't play well because he did, but in 6 games McDavid has 10 points and just seems to be getting better as the tournament goes on. The only thing with this kid is that I hope no one ruins him and stifles his creativity once he gets to the NHL because it has been a while since we have seen a player like this who is "all bets off" anytime he steps on the ice.

Thankfully, he won't be going to Boston. :sarcasm:

In the big picture of things it won't affect his situation that much. For team Canada and it's fans though it will be a disappointment if his performance is lacking a bit. I don't think his fans outside of Canada will change their opinion on him.
