too close to call if you're not including contracts. this wont be decided until stutzle shows what he can do in the playoffs
If he ever gets there.

This website is comedy gold. Seriously some of the takes here are funny as hell.

Quarter of the season, with a lot of hockey left mind you:

Matthews: 22 GP, 16 G 9 A 25 P

Stutzle: 19 GP, 5 G 18 A 23 P

It’s a lot closer than some are willing to admit.
This is aging about as well as you’d expect.

The Leafs have not been good and have two games in hand but 14 more points and Matthews has 17 more goals than Stutzle. The Leafs will disappoint me and a lot of people in the playoffs again, but at least they’ll get there but the personal numbers?

Climbable yes, for McDavid, Kucherov, Drai, Pasta and MacKinnon, Stutzle was perhaps on an even footing after a Matthews down season.

Matthews would be the best player on all but 3-4 teams, Stutzle it’s more like 12, and it’s debatable he’s the best on his own team.

‘But Stutzle, less money!!!!!!!!!!!!’

What a clever impersonation of a stupid poor person.

Matthews may very well be retired by the time this occurs.

Those few extra million saved are sure helping Ottawa at the moment.

if stutzle can lead in the playoffs then its a clean win for stutzle. if he's just ok or a dud then its a win for matthews.

If, if, if... Every summer we're told this, that and the other thing. Stutzle may never see the playoffs during his entire career.

Considering where Matthews' team is in the standings at the moment, I'd say he has a better chance at the playoffs this year than Stutzle.

sure. same odds at playing in the second round tho

Considering the amount of folks using a 1 year sample size to put Stutzle ahead of Matthews here, the same people should consider the Leafs a lock for the 2nd round no?

not if they are playing florida again

Depends on goaltending.

Florida only even got in the show after another team lost and it was because their goaltending was brutal all season......then Bobrovsky got crazy hot playing maybe the best stretch of his career taking out all-time regular season champs Boston/Toronto in 5/Canes sweep. His numbers coming nito the finals were insane. Came down to earth for Vagas though but has been decent so far this year.

Leafs would have probably have fared better the last 3 seasons with someone other than Campbell and Samsonov tending the net. Woll has looked like the real deal since he came up but I wonder what affects the injury will have on him.
