Stu isn't on Marners level, yet, IMO, but that's not a knock on Stutzle.

This is an 100 point player who was a Selke finalist, just going off memory I'd think Datsyuk and Federov are the only guys in the past 30ish years that had that type of line to be nominated. All situations, PP1, PK1, out to protect the lead, out to tie up the game.

Stu will get to his level I believe, but Marner is a level we should be absolutely thrilled with.

Stu is undoubtedly the better goal scorer of the two.
Do you think Marner has another development jump left in him? He's 26 this season. At his statistical peak.

I think Stuetzle can and will take another giant step forward this season.

Fingers crossed. We need it

I don’t, no, though he likely scores more than 100 points a couple of times in the next few seasons., as he’s an 100 point guy as is and will likely break that barrier on the Leafs a few times.

His past 5 seasons he’s been an 100 point guy per 82, 424 points in 348 games is ridiculously good.

If we can get 100 points per 82 over the next 5 seasons I think we are beyond thrilled.

On 5 occasions, I have seen aquiver in a players face.

1980 Montreal Expos, Steve Rogers.. he was a star, come playoffs, sank like a stone. On one occasion, the camera zooms in: he has a quiver... A few years later, his manager Dick Williams WORTE ABOUT THAT AND WAS AWFULLY CRITICAL Rogers never recovered.
Steve Rogers was the Expos' playoff MVP that year (1981), 3-1 with an 0.98 ERA, it was the Expos' only playoff appearance before 2019. Rogers won 2x starting vs. Philly and once vs. LA. He lost game 5 on a bullpen appearance on 2 days rest on the Monday homer in the 9th. Yes, Dick Williams didn't like Rogers as he was a sensitive star, but Jim Fanning was manager in 81. Rogers won 19 games, and the ERA title at 2.40 the next season. And 17 the next.

and he was a quivering man.. who failed.

Some stars hold up, others buckle.

Have you ever heard of activation energy? Of Malcom Gladwel's column on choking vs. panicing, the two modes of failure to perform up to your abilities and training under pressure? Sports psychology is really interesting, and applicable to so much more of your life.

He easily cracks 100 this season, id bet a good chunk of cash on that

Marner's 3 years in the league. Stutzle is right there if not better.

Nobody in the right mind will trade straight up Stutzle for Marner. Marner is picked at 100 points plateau. Stutze is just scratching the surface. He is more valuable in every way to any team in a league as a mobile centre, who can play defence as well. Also Stutzle is a play driver and a top three in the league as a puck transporter. It is a more valuable skill during playoffs. The shooters as Mathews and light mobile wingers like Marner, who like to cycle the puck are easily covered during playoffs. It is a huge problem for the Leafs with those two. The puck transporter at the high speed making runs nobody can stop. That's why EK was so valuable to Sens in this aspect. 120 points for Tim is not outside of a realm of possibilities. And he will be a gem moving the puck and driving the plays, during playoffs.

Can't let facts get in the way of a good story though.

A full season of Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux is very exciting

Probably our 2nd best line in history or will be soon

I'm still tempted to put Tarasenko on that line (since he wants to play with Stutzle) and put Tkachuk with Norris and Batherson to get that mojo going again.
Stutzle/Tarasenko absolutely needs to happen. The earlier the better. So much potential

I'm starting to think the same thing. But I'm sure the lines will get mixed up at different points but I would like to see them start with this.

Giroux Stutzle Tarasenko
Tkachuk Norris Batherson

I find batherson most effective when he plays a heavy game. Tkachuk drags him into that fight. He's at his best when he's most engaged.

I also agree that we'll see all kinds of different looks.

Having our 2nd line be a net sieve at even-strength last year was a real issue.

As much as I love Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux, we really need both top six lines to work and I think this is the obvious first option to try out.

Rogers had that habit of showing all his emotions on the mound in his body language and facial expressions…. His nickname was “sigh” which was a clever baseball pun on Cy which you might call your star pitcher.

He was also a very smart guy — had a degree in engineering, I think — and probably came off as a little arrogant to the other less educated baseball types.

So as an old school baseball guy, Williams probably just didn’t like Rogers on a personal level.

Been saying that since we first signed Tarasenko. He's played his best hockey with playmaking C.

Giroux-Stutzle-Tarasenko could be one of the best lines in the league unless they stumble in chemistry early on, but I still expect them to mesh.

Tarasenko is literally only 1 season removed 34 goals and 82 points in 75 games. 6 goals in 12 playoff games. Only 31.

That line could be tremendous for us.

Never bet against Giroux and a Stutzle poised to break 100 points.

How can anyone look at that top-6 and not say it's top-5 in the league? Very few teams can say they have 1st line talent in every single position.

If Norris comes back swinging, and Tarasenko finds chemistry early, it's top 5 in the league.

We've seen with Pinto the struggles of coming back after injury.

We'll have to wait and see.

Batherson should really get his shit together this season. HIs defensive game is atrocious. DJ Smith should bench his ass the first game he is imitating a hit. He is a complete cheat. Not doing anything for the team to sacrifice a body. He is not physical, he is avoiding a contact. He plays like an euro sissy player from the 90th.

I respectfully disagree, specifically about the physical part.

Batherson will be PPG again this year and a key component to us making the playoffs and making it past the 1st round.

They can probably do that because they have a differing method of evaluation. For example, if you look at something like WAR, it would be easy to see why our top six might not rank top five league wide, even if you factor in progression and Norris being back.
