Here is Belle.Mine's a treeing walker coonhound. Due to her coloration we believe she may have some redbone in her.
I've owned several breeds in my life but these things are, let's say peculiar. And this is coming from a guy who had a Shiba as well as an Akita/Shepherd mix.
They take a very different kind of training and patience if you're not using them for hunting. Fortunately she's come a very long way even though COVID really f***ed with her socialization training.
Love her to bits and she's great now though, and I'm pretty sure the sentiment is reciprocal.
If you're on IG follow Jonathan's Journal. She's great and lays out the trajectory of having one pretty well.
Case in point, this is how she sleeps occasionally:

Ok Marc. Nice to finally see you here.Les murs sont très fins, mon ami
Don't bite my style homie.
I just got off a zoom call for lawyers in the south who are also Devils fans. Who knew she had passed the Florida bar exam? Anyway she was telling me she’s upset the team gave up on Schneider too early. She said if you watched him last season you could see his hips are fine and he has at least four or five more years in him.My dog is also not a fan of hockey. I catch her leaving the room a lot when it's on, whereas usually she's sitting right next to me at all times when I'm home.
I can't figure out if she doesn't like it because I kind of turn the game up a bit loud or if she's a bit salty that I'm paying attention to the game and not her. Typically I don't turn it up too loud other than during the Devils games.
I love people who think November is cold, it keeps the Vermont population relatively stable.I'd BADLY like to take a trip to Jersey before it gets too cold. Like sometime this month, although it would be sweet to catch a game after the regular season starts.
But I haven't really taken any trips in the 4 years that I've had her. I can't even imagine leaving her in the car for 2-3 minutes while I go inside a store to use the restroom during the ride. She absolutely has abandonment/separation anxiety issues and having to do that in a place she's not familiar with is just something I really can't do. I'd love to be able to find someone to take the trip with me or even drive while I hold her in the passengers seat or really the back seat because of the air bags. The few friends I got down here are working and I don't expect them to take a trip with me. The one guy I know would do it (Cage Helmet from this forum) is usually booked up travelling for work. He's free right now, but after next week he'll be travelling until late October, then back out again for a week in Japan in November.
That's the one problem I've really run into with her. But it's not only that, I'd be taking her to stay in a place that she's never been to before.
She's familiar with my friends and family from Jersey, as they've all come here to visit, but she's a bit sketched by almost everyone.
I've been in Florida for 11 years this month and there have been several freezes in that time, but I am not used to cold weather anymore.I love people who think November is cold, it keeps the Vermont population relatively stable.
That and I can't wait for summer to end. This shit has been oppressive.
So basically a college schedule is when everyone should be going to Florida.I've been in Florida for 11 years this month and there have been several freezes in that time, but I am not used to cold weather anymore.
In that time I've traveled several times to Denver (in August) and several times to Jersey in August. And I also went to both jersey retirement games, which were both in February, if I'm not mistaken? I stayed for one night each time. Flew into Newark in the morning and flew back to Tampa in the very next morning.
And I'm ready for summer to end, as it's just too wildly humid here. I think it was yesterday that I posted that I HATE the summer here. It's just too humid.
October-December are amazing here. January-February have some cold fronts, but nothing too bad. March-April are also amazing down here.
May-September is horrible. Just way too humid. Starts to get better towards later September.
I have to put the dog in a sweater a few times a year. She gets cold fast. I always say she likes the heat and the sun because she's from Mexico (she's really not, I just say that cause she's a Chihuahua) and would HATE having to live up in Jersey or spending too long there for at least half the months out of the year.
When I think dogs, I think wolves. All these watered down… I just can’tHuskies and Shepard’s (all black long haired Shepard I’d love to have) are by far my favorite dogs , but no way I can have one. I’m allergic to them (type of fur they have and shedding ), plus I just don’t have the time to walk and run them as much as they should be.
So ..Im limited to dogs with a certain size and type of fur. Small dogs are not my favorite to put it mildly. I love all dogs but small little shits and these breeds I’d never own personally - Pug , Shitzu , Bulldog , Boxer , StandardPoodle
Ex-sister in law had a standard poodle. When they would visit , she would bring that stupid F’ing dog along . As soon as they walked in the door , she would boss me around to cater to the stupid dog., “fetch “ me some water for Disco (dogs stupid name ) .
Totally fit the stereotype of a standard poodle owner.Obnoxious douche bag owners that think their shit doesn’t stink. I would get so allergic to that stupid thing that my eyes would swell shut ,nose poured snot , has problems breathing … yet they would bring that dog with them and stay the weekend and keep the dog inside the entire time, even knowing I almost die from the allergies
I would always whisper shit to the stupid dog. It’s owners would get legit pissed off. Like come on… it was a joke ..they acted like I hurt the dogs feelings… I’d whisper “ I hate you, I hope you run away and get eaten by a cougar” “ Look at yourself , you look like an idiot. All the other dogs laugh at you behind your back.I hope you get rabies. Have you ever seen Old Yeller ? “
Its owner / sister in law would lose her shit . “ Don’t say that ! You can upset him! “
South of me (and on the Atlantic Coast and probably down by Naples on the Gulf) it's literally warm year round. Like average highs of 75 and average lows of like 58 in January. And you can even get in the ocean and swim year round, as long as it's not one of those days where a cold front came through. It's rare they have a daytime high of under 65 or so and even under 70 isn't often. So basically a college schedule is when everyone should be going to Florida.
I can't even imagine leaving her in the car for 2-3 minutes while I go inside a store to use the restroom during the ride. She absolutely has abandonment/separation anxiety issues and having to do that in a place she's not familiar with is just something I really can't do.
On the flip side, my dad has a German Shepherd that may be the dumbest dog I've ever seen. He's adorable and an absolute sweetheart of a dog, but there is nothing going on upstairs. Which is kind of like my cat.Labs and Goldens are quite similar in my experience. Labs a bit more energetic. Intellect can vary. The smartest dogs I've seen are my in-laws German Shepherds and our first female golden. She was incredibly smart. I know herding dogs can be quite smart as well but they are "on" all the time. My oldest son's college girlfriend had a Welsh Corgi. She was a wonderful dog. Smart playful and fun. But it was like having a 100 mph Roomba in the house. It was adorable to watch our male golden play with the corgi. He would put her head in his mouth and let her go. He never bit her or hurt her or pressed hard. The Corgi loved it too. Our female golden never warmed up to the Corgi and was probably relieved when the relationship ended and the Corgi no longer visited. My kids are convinced that we will get more dogs when the youngest heads off to college but I think two is plenty.
I can't figure out how to piss in one of those without standing up. I'd go all over the floor if I tried to use that while sitting in the seat of the car.
Is that a random comment about the NJ goaltending?
My goldens bark at people walking by in our neighborhood. If those people strolling by have the nerve to walk by with a dog it’s on like Donkey Kong. I’m not sure what they think is going to happen. I’m not going out there to chase away the neighbors. Thankfully we live in a spread out neighborhood in the back of the subdivision with only a handful of people walking by in any given day. Thanks! She really is the most adorable thing!
I don't think she would seriously bite someone, but I wouldn't wanna have to find out. My buddy's kids have come over and tried to pet her and they can only pet if I hold her. She won't let them pet her if I'm not holding her. And she has ran up to them and tried to nip at their ankles (literal definition of an ankle biter, it's her!), but I don't think she's vicious.
She does have some very strange quirks. Sometimes if my phone is going off and it's in the other room, I'll run into the other room to get it and she'll start barking at the phone ringing, the same way she would if someone was at the door. She also has a bad habit of barking at people walking by and I know she does it even worse when I'm not home to get her to stop. She's very sketched out. I originally wasn't sure how I was gonna be able to go to work and leave her home all day. She would whine and howl like a coyote a lot. She definitely had to get used to it before too long.
I'm sure she was likely abused and mistreated before I adopted her when she was about 9-10 months old.
Our female thinks she’s a mighty hunting wolf. She stalks turtles and grasshoppers and the odd rabbit in the back yard. When I think dogs, I think wolves. All these watered down… I just can’t
Really enjoying the dog pics.
I have this mean little ankle biter.

She’s almost 5 years old in either November or December. Chihuahua/terrier mix. She’s the most precious thing to me, but she barks a lot and isn’t the most friendly with strangers. Especially men. I’ve had her for 4 years this month. She seems to warm up to women more than men, but she never did warm up at all to the ex-girlfriend (for great reason, she knows a deceitful person when she sees one), but she did eventually like her son after a while. She will bark at people that come by that she’s known ever since I’ve had her. And one of my constant lines I say over and over again is “Not many people like this type of dog!” Haha.
She’s very needy too. And she’s terribly spoiled!
