Honestly, the only Punk band from waayyyyyyy back that didn't change too much and are still around is probably Bad Religion.

Even though they usually have a song or two on much of their later era records that is cringy and makes me think of some of the modern era Offspring stuff.

But Bad Religion had their diversion out of Punk really early on and when the members were very young, only to circle back after a few years. They did a Prog album in 1983 (only 3 years into the band) and a couple of the members even left the band because they couldn't stand this change in direction, but then returned after they ditched the Prog thing after only about a year.

To this day, Epitaph hasn't even done a proper release of that album (Into the unknown), so that shows what Greg Graffin and Brett Gurewitz think of it, though the band has played a few songs (without the keyboards) off the album in recent years. So Graffin couldn't hate it too much. That was like Bad Religion's Sandinista, only it was a Prog album. I don't mean it sounded like Sandinista or was even as good as that. It was just a diversion, which the Clash started that diversion a little bit on London Calling. Bad Religion have retained much of their old sound. Not quite like when they first started (They're actually better) but they were teenagers then. But they sound not too much different than they did in 1994 and not tons diffrent from 1988, only with much better production on their records, due to the bigger budget, as well as the advancements in sound and recording.

The Dead Kennedys kind of went a little experimental at the end. There's some spaghetti western sounds during the end of their tenure.

You're right, most of the Punk bands grew out of it and either went more radio friendly or pop sounding or went a little in another direction, and in rare instances even started playing metal. Or they broke up too soon, like the Sex Pistols.

Now I know this just from knowing people that played in Punk bands, some of which were fairly popular bands in the Punk scene. They have said they got better at their instruments and wanted to start playing more challenging or advanced music. I think that's kind of what The Clash did. They were too good of musicians for Punk music, but they did kind of somewhat come back to it for Combat Rock, before diverging again on Cut The Crap, which was really just Joe Strummer and friends at that point.
That’s a great post. I am always fascinated by the development of rock music in all its forms. I’d have much preferred to be a music journalist instead of a lawyer.

ya, i've mentioned before i have the LP
That’s right you posted that picture. My bad I forgot.

all good.....

...so, about to head out to see the impostor april wine
I’ve had a head ache all day after I rode my bike in about 97 degrees and I finally drank enough water that I’m not dehydrated. My wife went to get dinner since neither of us wanted to cook. I will find a horror movie I haven’t seen before and watch that later. Really exciting stuff.

Bit of an ominous start to vacation. Rain followed shortly after this shot.

Off topic from music for a moment, I'm starting to HATE my neighborhood and I think I'm gonna ultimately move back to New Jersey (probably not there) or somewhere else within a year or two. If I were 55 I would sell my house and move to a 55+ adult community, even I had to buy a mobile home and live in that.

About 4 nights ago, I almost beat the shit out of some head hunter that was starting to walk up into my yard and asked me if I was a ''Predator'' and got all hostile with me. Some guy that's I'm gonna say probably in his 50's (he looked it) and had an approximately 30 year old F-150 with all these confederate flag stickers and stickers saying redneck and American by birth, Southern by the grace of god bullshit (I don't think he had those last one I mentioned, but he may as well, because that's what I associate those types with) and had a lot of nerve. I went off on him like a sick, crazy person and he decided to turn around and leave after that.

The backstory is that some woman (a drunken, head hunter BUM) is now living across the street from me. She's staying with her brother across the street, I guess his wife left him. I only know shit about her because my friend was here a couple of weeks ago and he was outside smoking a cigarette when she walked by and I guess she told him her life story. I think she might have been interested in him, but he's gay, so he don't want her. She had said it was only her third day there. That was 8 nights before this incident, because I went out of town on vacation for a week.

She knew who I was and was fully aware that I existed, so this past Tuesday night was not the first time she ever saw me. I went out of town on vacation (maybe I'll move there) for a week (my first in 5 or 6 years) and just got back around 12:30 AM Tuesday morning.

The next night I was doing my routine. I was walking my 2.2 miles, which I usually do every night. I see this old piece of shit Ford pickup drive past me with all of his I'm from the South and other dumb shit on his back window. He was blasting some BUTT ROCK (that song it's been a while from the early 00's) and I saw him pull into the driveway across the street, but I was still behind him. I picked up my pace and jogged two blocks and was jogging as I passed them. I jogged a block past my house, took a breath and turned around. Pulled up a chair in my yard and wouldn't have even known they were there. I get up after resting for a few and jogged another block and turned right back around. This was by the house this woman was staying at. I think the truck had left, but then it came back. I hear someone going ''You got a problem?'' while I hear her saying ''You don't have to do this! Just forget about it!'' It took him I think till the third time for me to even realize he was talking to me. I thought he was talking to the woman's brother who she's staying with.

Once I answer him he starts walking over to me. I wasn't even gonna get my ass out of the chair, but don't come walking towards my yard. I got immediately defensive after being asked if I was a predator by this head hunter for exercising and jogging/walking and then sitting down on a chair on MY LAWN. I just let my mouth loose and went off like a madman and snapped. Not physically, but very verbally. And I hear her saying ''I'm just looking out for myself buddy'', so I'm assuming she called him to come back. I said ''I've lived here for 12 f***in years, she's been here for 10 days!'' and he goes ''So you do know her?'' I said ''My buddy was out here talking to her last week and she said she had been here 3 days''. As he was walking away he goes ''You don't wanna know me'' to which I said ''You're damn right I don't wanna know you, get the f*** away from me''. I walked past him the next day, I'm pretty sure he looked at me and said nothing. I think this is some guy she met in the last week. She seemed pretty desperate. She's also a drunk, as every time I see her she's walking up and down the block with a bottle of wine. I'm not gonna stalk anyone, but I'm definitely not interested in a weird, transient, drunk. Been there, done that and it wasn't even that long ago.

Sorry for the long post. This was maybe the longest post I've ever made here that wasn't a goalie rant or a ''Cam Ward is the most irrelevant Conn Smythe winner of all time'' post.

That’s a great post. I am always fascinated by the development of rock music in all its forms. I’d have much preferred to be a music journalist instead of a lawyer.
When I was a kid (like 15-20) I used to be annoyed that the Punk bands changed their sounds and even when they signed to major labels, but I don't care at all anymore. The only time it kind of bothers me is when they preach against capitalism, but then sign to this big corporate label. Now the Clash and even Bad Religion are two bands that did this, but if The Clash weren't on a major label, maybe I never hear them? And I'm happier to have heard them and the guys getting money out of it, rather than never hearing them and Joe Strummer and the boys living their entire lives in squats and condemned buildings.

Green Day never really had a strong anti-capitalist message, nor did many of the bands that blew up.

Just from knowing people in the music scene that make music for a living (in the Punk scene), there's much more money to be made in live performances than royalties from record sales. That's the same for every musician. Even the big acts will get more money touring than sitting at home and just collecting royalties. I guess the Beatles did that (didn't they? Correct me if I'm wrong on that) towards the end and they were able to, because they were literally one of the biggest bands in the world, but that's why a lot of artists and musicians got in trouble during the pandemic, as there was just no money to be made, because the royalties don't pay enough if you're not a HUGE universally known act. Even if you're on a major label. The lesser known bands that were signed to majors suffered as well, because they couldn't tour.

And that's why I don't understand when guys like Danzig and Doyle from the Misfits get all heated about everyone downloading their music and stealing it. I was listening to a podcast and Doyle was so heated about people stealing his f***in records and music. I bet he makes as much money playing one Misfits show (with the reunited lineup in arenas) as he does on at least a year's worth of royalties from his records. It may even take him more than a year to make that.

And now that I'm older, I don't begrudge people for rather making money through their bands/records than having to work in a dry cleaner or convenient store. Some of the best musicians that really made it huge had nothing before they got big and rich, and some of them were even homeless. One of my good friend's struggled quite a bit until he was 30. He was in bands, but only just made enough to live and he was living with his grandparents when he wasn't on tour. He received a big break in a much bigger band when he was 30 years old and now he's making enough money that he had enough put away during the pandemic, invested in the stock market and now takes care of his grandmother financially. He's not a huge success story, but he's managed to raise his net worth from about $10k to about a million.

One more thing on major labels and Punk - The Clash, Sex Pistols and Ramones never took much shit for being on major labels, probably because it was so early in the game. Well, the Clash kind of took shit from Crass for it. Crass took shots at them in quite a few songs at the time, and they took a lot of shit for it right back from other bands like Special Duties, who are probably most known just for trashing Crass in their songs.

It’s not like these bands had great options in the 70s and 80s. If they didn’t sign they’d starve. At least the Clash didn’t leave England to avoid taxes the way some stars did.

I don’t need a blade for that guy. He cowered after I started screaming expletives at him. I even called him an old f*** (he may not even be as old as me haha but I suspect he’s a little bit older) and I called him a see you next Tuesday several times. And I think I ended my rant with a “why don’t you go back to f***in New York!” to his girl that he obviously just met in the last week.

She has an insane ego. I heard her talking to her brother that she moved in with and was talking loud enough (so my friend and I could hear it when we were outside the day before I left) about how some 22 year old liked her and that people always tell her how nice her boobs are, but she thinks they’re overrated. You could tell she was showing off. I would say this woman looks at least 50-52 years old. She could even be 54. She was also talking about being a hot grandmother. I’m glad she thinks my life is so pathetic that I do sprints in front of her brother’s house (who she is no doubt mooching off of and probably has nowhere else to go) to stalk her and then acts like she didn’t know I lived there and even if she did, then that’s even worse because she’s just creating a scene. Once again, she’s a drunk.

I don’t even think the guy was ever gonna fight me. I think he was showing off to her and wanted to flex his muscles a bit. For all I know he could have been the one to initiate all of this and been the one noticing me running sprints past them, and got insecure about a younger, better looking (just saying), and more in shape non-redneck head hunter being seen too much by his new girlfriend. Or it could have been her (I already know she has an ego and thinks a lot of herself) big head needing to start a bunch of drama. There’s plenty of people like this.

She hasn’t tried to say anything to me since then, but if she does I won’t say nothing back. She’s not worth a response. Even if she apologized I wouldn’t accept. You can’t come back from something like that. Not when we don’t even really know each other.

I told one of the neighbors about it, who ran to her brother (he’s really the homeowner and the guy who lives there) and told him while getting the mail there. The guy who lives there told my other neighbor that “they just said he was out here acting crazy” I said “You’re god damn right I was acting crazy! After that confronted me! I don’t say shit to anybody unless they talk to me first or unless I already know them and you know that!”.

I’m pretty sure I’m more crazier than he is. The difference is that I’m not crazy until provoked (unless it’s about a goaltender on a message board lol) and I don’t bother anyone that doesn’t bother me. I don’t wanna hurt or bother anybody. You can’t call me a predator while I’m sitting on my lawn, just because I passed that house/his truck three times. I mean, the first time we passed it was him driving past me! The next two was me doing my sprints.

I’m not violent, though Bratt Pack will likely dispute that, after my harsh threats online last year that actually Beetlejuiced him to this forum lol.

The last time I punched somebody was over 14 years ago and it’s actually a much crazier story than what happened the other night. The guy definitely deserved it. He actually deserved it much more than the guy the other night would have, who didn’t actually step foot on my property or even make me feel overly threatened. The guy the other night made me feel much more insulted than threatened.

The guy who lives there told my other neighbor that “they just said he was out here acting crazy” I said “You’re god damn right I was acting crazy! After that confronted me! I don’t say shit to anybody unless they talk to me first or unless I already know them and you know that!”.

i'm 6'0" 215 not many people would try and pull shit on me...but some people are f***ing nuts....obviously i never want a duel with anyone... i once told someone who got out of their car and started walking aggressively towards me (i had my window open) ...he was pissed about something, i can't remember what....

i didnt get out, just sat in the driver's seat and yelled at him.... "hey man, it's in your best interest to get back in your f***ing car...." probably more was said but he did as such and turned back

sucks about those pos around you... you keep them in their place if more happens...be safe

I don’t think I’ll have to put them in their place again. I think I scared them. I think the guy was either afraid I was gonna physically assault him or possibly with a deadly weapon after the way I went off. I really don’t think I went overboard. When I was younger I would have also done that, but I also would have felt bad about it and maybe even apologized. I’m not like that anymore. I did nothing wrong and I have nothing to apologize for. And maybe after that he may have even felt bad about it and realized maybe I was really just trying to do my workout.

The last time I had to get physical with someone I was like 33 or so. I was briefly involved with a very crazy and nutty woman. Much more nutty than the one from 2018-2020. But like many young men (and even not so young men) I put up with her because…… the sex was good!!!!

She was a drug abuser, as well as someone that was prescribed many antidepressants in which she didn’t take or didn’t take regularly. She was very out there, but hey! She was good looking and the sex was good!

She didn’t really have a stable place to live, other than her mom’s, which she would regularly be kicked out of for doing things like falling asleep after she started cooking food in the oven and left it burning. Or when she let other bums come over and steal checks from her mom and go and cash them.

So she got kicked out and had to go live with a strange, 50-something year old guy that was missing more than half his brain. He would let her use his car and take it on long trips, despite her not having a license and being too crazy to even get one. She probably f***ed him too, but I don’t really care.

One night I went over to the strange house, walked upstairs and told her I was there. She refused to answer the bedroom door at first. Then she came out and started hitting me to which I just did nothing but to be cover myself from being hit too hard.

Some guy (a junkie and not the homeowner) was waiting downstairs and this girl claimed to not even know who I was and that I broke in lol. He was the one to answer the door to me in the first place and acted very sketchy when he did. Almost like I was a cop or like the house was being watched. He was pretty scary looking. Looked like he had served some time in prison. I walked downstairs and peacefully held my hands up and said “I’m leaving! I’m cool!”. The guy did not look like he was fine with letting me leave. He looked like he was going to prevent me from leaving and trying to block me from leaving. I didn’t think long, I just hit him as hard and as fast as I could. I knocked him out cold. I calmly walked out the door. I figured the people in that house were at least smart enough to not call the cops, as they had drugs there, and I knew they had been in trouble with the law and were likely on probation. I calmly started my truck and left. I kept looking in my rear view mirror to make sure I wasn’t being followed by someone or by the cops.

Never saw that guy again, but someone I knew claimed they saw him knife someone in jail. I think that was BS.

It turns out he was the guy stealing checks from the girl’s mom. Though it had happened several years prior, which I found out by way of the internet. She actually told me after the fact that he stole checks, but I thought she was lying and the internet confirmed she in fact was telling the truth on that. She later admitted she had sex with the guy, but claimed it had happened 10 years earlier, which was totally believable!!

I still went and hooked up with her several more times after that, but she would always start some shit or physically assault me. I never once assaulted her or any woman, but she hit me quite a few times and that’s just not cool. I think she would hit me because she knew I wouldn’t hit her back and the guy that she was with several years before I was involved with her used to beat on her. And I think she felt like she was taking out that anger and getting revenge by hitting me.

I kept her around for about 4 months in total, which was about 3.5 months too long.

I can write a chapter on how f***ed up she was. I had no feelings for her, so she never hurt me.

She may not even be alive anymore. I’m pretty sure she’s about 50 years old now and she had a lot of health issues in her 30’s. She also lied a lot though. She claimed she had survived ovarian cancer, but that it had come back a for a FOURTH time! She was a pathological liar and a hypochondriac.

Oh, by the way, because that last post was long enough.

The guy she was with for a few years that used to beat on her before I knew her got shot to death by his step father after the two of them were staying at his mother and step father’s house and an argument started because of her. He was also apparently violent towards his mother in the past and that night was the final straw. The step father shot and killed him right in front of her. And the guy served no time and got off on self defense. The guy he shot was not liked by anybody. It was like good riddance the wicked witch is dead. I never knew him, but heard stories from people who did.

That happened several years before we met, but she still seemed to have love for this guy and was still grieving his death, despite how violent he was to her.

Can you call a police?

So this guy was from the part of thr neighborhoood with the Schwarzenegger villains? As soon as interest rates return to levels where people are out buying houses it’s time for you to relocate.

There’s no need. Everyone is leaving each other alone and it’s over and done with. I was much more annoyed and insulted by the whole ordeal than threatened.

Its a Burroughs level story, man. You should try to understand what kind of story you are in and try to leave it before the situation moves to a denouement.
You mean the story from last week? Or the one where I had to knock the guy out back in 2009? I would say the one from last week was pretty minor.

The one was 2009 was scary and something I really wouldn’t wanna be in again, and to this day I’ve never been in another situation like that.

The one from last week actually reminds me of something that would have happened with kids back in elementary or middle school lol.

Bit of an ominous start to vacation. Rain followed shortly after this shot.
Gorgeous. Sometimes a rainy day is pretty nice to be out depending on how heavy.

Thursday it rained all day when I was fishing the Delaware and I was going to stay in the cabin and tie flies all day. But I went out for a couple of hours and landed a pretty 12'' brown on one those size #24 Blue Winged Olives in the picture I posted on the penny. Made my whole day.

I’m not even sure where that guy lives. He may live nowhere around here.

He looks like he’s from some redneck place in Georgia or possibly even West Virginia or somewhere either between there or possibly slightly east or west of there.

If I ever relocate I will be doing so with cash and no loans. Zillow has me listed at $549k on my place and I owe nothing against it. Not bad for a place I bought for I think it was $160k in cash 12 years ago. If I had stayed in New Jersey and was still saving to move here and buy in cash there’s no way I’d have close to $500k in cash right now, so I got this place at the perfect time after saving roughly $10k a year starting at 18.

I really don’t wanna sell though. Sometimes I’ve thought about moving to a 55+ community (I’ve still got a ways to go) but I’d be getting some kind of a condo with an HOA and a shared pool that’s worth as much as my place is now and I got my own pool, no HOA. My homeowners insurance is stupid expensive, because of the hurricane threat, but even with that and my property taxes, I’m still only paying about half per year of what a decent one bedroom apartment apartment goes for around here (that may not even allow pets) or maybe even less than half at this point.

May I ask why you would consider a 55+ community?

I know a few people that live in the Villages and a couple of people that live in Del Webb communities here in NJ. They seem to love it.

The people from the Villages rave about the amenities and activities...but I would imagine being around only older people could get a bit depressing? I don't know though?
