Why do I have to choose from those two options? Are you not thinking just a bit that US TV ratings is imperative. Is Bettmans job to make money or promote fair play.

Because cup final between Montreal and Winnipeg is a financial disaster to NHL.Why do I have to choose from those two options?
Because cup final between Montreal and Winnipeg is a financial disaster to NHL.
How were the Tampa Bay vs. Calgary financials in 2004? Did the league go bankrupt due to a lack of conspiring/evils/skulduggery?Because cup final between Montreal and Winnipeg is a financial disaster to NHL.
Pretty safe guarantee, Montreal is terrible. But I guarantee you that won't happen
No it's not.Because cup final between Montreal and Winnipeg is a financial disaster to NHL.
While I would agree with most of what you are saying regarding his smarts, I will say that Bettman certainly comes across like he couldnt give two shits about hockey and he def comes across as arrogant but so do a lot of players. He is a businessman, not a hockey fan, which while I understand, it does seem like a weird choice to be the face of the league.Sounds very similar to the stuff lowly educated folks say about current politicians when espousing conspiracy theories like WEF 5G etc.
Hint: seeing as he’s a lawyer and has ran a sports league for 30 years and was #2 in the NBA during its 80-90’s boom under stern I’m gonna guess that Gary is in fact smarter than most people he interacts with, especially in the media which is where you’re insight to him comes mostly comes from. (Not saying any one specifically just general of course)
It’s one thing to be smarter, it’s another thing to go out of your way to show it.Sounds very similar to the stuff lowly educated folks say about current politicians when espousing conspiracy theories like WEF 5G etc.

So Bettman and company are doing what is necessary to make sure this doesn’t happen, then?Because cup final between Montreal and Winnipeg is a financial disaster to NHL.
I dont get the impression many of the finals lately have drawn much interesrt either in fairness.Because cup final between Montreal and Winnipeg is a financial disaster to NHL.
YesSo Bettman and company are doing what is necessary to make sure this doesn’t happen, then?
Not in Canada, but our market has no money...the bucks are in the US.I dont get the impression many of the finals lately have drawn much interesrt either in fairness.
Who won? A city who only knows about ice in a glass until their team is a winner, now they are a strong market providing they win regularly. Leafs lose 56 years and still buy tickets. Buffalo in bad years had 7000 fans. Leafs in a bad yr have 17000. No need to win.How were the Tampa Bay vs. Calgary financials in 2004? Did the league go bankrupt due to a lack of conspiring/evils/skulduggery?
Yes it is, in NYC, VEGAS, LA, BOSTON, SEATTLE, TAMPA ETC.No it's not.
Let's see. CBC government sponsored vs NBC cash vow , hmmmmHow were the Tampa Bay vs. Calgary financials in 2004? Did the league go bankrupt due to a lack of conspiring/evils/skulduggery?
What cash cow? The NHL makes more broadcast revenue from Canada than the US.Let's see. CBC government sponsored vs NBC cash vow , hmmmm
Winnipeg is a deadzone, but id be interested to see what a TML v. EDM/VAN finals would do in comparison to the last 3-4 US series. Not in Canada, but our market has no money...the bucks are in the US.
I think you're really misguided, and I hope you can overcome your resentment for all things. You formulate every counter argument with the guise that all things are evil, inequality is abound, all of the world is motivated by money (accept you).Who won? In Canada, much much better, in the US, not as good. But a bad US series is worth more money that good Canadian series.Winnipeg is a deadzone, but id be interested to see what a TML v. EDM/VAN finals would do in comparison to the last 3-4 US series.
You are wrong. What cash cow? The NHL makes more broadcast revenue from Canada than the US.
Id be interested to see the numbers on it personally. Without knowing how deep to dive or where to authenticate it looks like our Round 1 win drew better in Canada alone than the US + CAN ratings for the cup clincherIn Canada, much much better, in the US, not as good. But a bad US series is worth more money that good Canadian series.
Rogers deal per year was more than doubleIn Canada, much much better, in the US, not as good. But a bad US series is worth more money that good Canadian series.
You are wrong.
You may be correct, but the fight for US market share is young and necessary to become legit equal to the big 4. NFL, MLB, NBA, Collage football/basketball. When Calgary plays nobody in 90% of US cares, or even know where Calgary is. No TV sets are on. If they are playing Rangers that is a different story. Owners invested to make money. Like the NFL where a $50,000 1962 investment became 2.3billion. Why does Bettman insist that Arizona exist.Rogers deal per year was more than double
the NBC deal that ended after 21-22. Current ESPN+TNT deal Is now more by about $100 a year, but the next Canadian deal in three years will surpass that.
Both. Anyway if Bettman wanted to tilt interest to the U S, he never would have let Mathews end up as a Leaf or allow Edmonton to win what, 3 of 4 1st overall picks, one of them being Connor McDavid. Are you not thinking just a bit that US TV ratings is imperative. Interesting point #1 son. Conspiracies are complex things.Both. Anyway if Bettman wanted to tilt interest to the U S, he never would have let Mathews end up as a Leaf or allow Edmonton to win what, 3 of 4 1st overall picks, one of them being Connor McDavid.
I'm really going to enjoy the emergence of Knies, Minton, and Woll.Same team, same coach, same system (likely). Only changes were old-school tough guy additions and Tyson Barrie 2.0. No movement on Nylander/Matthews/Marner contracts when they had leverage. What's even the point of Reaves when the team seems to have a policy against fighting and even seemingly body contact? Pretty sure this is my lowest interest level since I was a little kid in the 70s. What is there to look forward to next season that will be any different than the last 6? I honestly don't get it. At the very minimum they should have replaced Keefe (not because he did anything wrong but because it would be the easiest major change - and something has to).

It's too bad you decided to cheer for The Seattle Kraken this year.
