Chabot hasn't produced at a 60pt ppg in 6 years. He could definitely do it with league scoring being higher and the team being more stacked.

Just hope he's healthy enough to be effective on the ice, poor guy hasn't played more than 71 games per season.
If only we had excellent D coaches. :)

i don't watch Nurse that much but i did yesterday.

and idk if it was just a very rare good game but he was solid yesterday.

mobile, nasty, simple plays, cleared the crease, covered lots of ground. someone iced the oilers goalie once and nurse went right at him, when has chabot ever done that lol.

like we could use a player who plays like that.

again maybe it was just a rare good game but he was impressive yesterday.

but his contract is much worse than Chabot though. no question about that.
Chabot plays a soft passive game like Phillips used to play. There is no "nasty" in either of them. No player on the ice fears having to deal with them.

The saga continues.

Pinto looked a little slow and not involved physically in the last game. He obviously has some sort of injury which hopefully will not keep him out of games.

It's looking like some proper coaching might turn around this guy's play.

Less minutes.

Actual instruction.

Structure around him.

Some accountability based on his play.

He's a talented player who could be a huge asset if he plays within the team structure.
Plus he needs to play a more physical game, not the pansy style he has played in the past. Proper D coaching is very much required.

Jensen is very mobile, which probably helps Chabot play his game and worry less about the occasional mistake, because he has someone who can cover for him or even get into the right spot.
I don't see the benefit as "someone who can cover for him" when he makes a mistake; I see it as having a competent defensive partner that he can play D with and pass the puck to when necessary and who can play a solid defensive game.

Chabot should not be making many "mistakes" that result in odd-man rushes against the Sens. He makes a few too many "mistakes" now. Good coaching could correct that.

Dante Fabbro come on in.
Fabbro could be had for cheap as well. The Preds aren't in the best cap situation and likely can't afford to keep him next year with Saaros' extension kicking in, dead cap from Duchene buyout increasing, Evangelista and Tomasino needing new deals and only Nyquist coming off the book.

Lots of ridiculousness has been said about Chabot these last several years.

I will just note that we played two extremely strong games two nights in a row, and on both nights Chabot was our best defenseman, arguably our best player each night, swallowed up just under 50 mins combined, and just absolutely dominated the ice.

This man is absolutely capable of being a #1D and if Sanderson is not playing his best hockey, as is the case right now, that is exactly what he can be for us. Obviously a ton of props go to Jensen and its not fair to judge Sanderson in a vacuum right now... but TC absolutely deserves his flowers.

Nothing ridiculous has been said about Chabot. He's been complete shit for so long now in addition to being overworked. This was never a question about his ability, he was expected to be our #1 guy. The longer his poor play went on, the concern (which was completely valid) was whether or not he was able to rid himself of the DJ poison. He's looking great so far though.

Uh huh.

He is doing things harder this season. More urgency in his skating, passes and clears have purpose. In the past he was floating his passes or clears too often. Nice start to the season for Chabby!
The whole team is playing with urgency and it radiates through everyone. Just like the team cheating, playing softly and lazily for years radiated through everyone. As the guy who played the most by far, and clearly became exhausted, Chabot definitely became the worst/most glaring offender.

Just reading through this thread and picking up on a few comments. I’m not sure you can expect Chabot to be a physical, nasty or punishing defenseman. Would also think comparing him to Phillips is a bit odd.

Chabot needed a decent partner that could allow him to play his game. Our defense has been missing a piece or two for quite some time and Chabot was expected to do too much. Jensen has helped in that regard and we now have a stable 2nd unit. Can’t wait until Zub gets back with the same principle & thoughts in mind.

I think Green has them playing a stronger team D. You can see far less panic and fire drills in their play and they play with more structure.

With Yakemchuk and possibly Sebrango who is looking promising, we have a decent looking blueline going forward as well.

It's actually incredible that Dorion traded Dylan DeMelo for a 3rd round pick. He should have been kept all the way, it would have helped Chabot a lot

Even if the narrative has been a bit different, Chabot was actually still pretty elite in 2021-22, until he got injured. There's 2 factors people are forgetting/ignoring :

- Health : Chabot has struggled with injuries the past 2 seasons, of course it affected his play.

- DJ Dorion hockey : players assessment from that era have to be taken with a grain of salt. We finally look like a serious NHL franchise, I was talking about it last year after Dorion and DJ eventually got canned, that it would take a bit of time for the STINK to get off. It might be finally happening this season even if it was starting to look much better under Jacques Martin. They had to cleanse the mess

It's no surprise, to me at least, that Chabot looks this good on a GOOD hockey team, it's actually his first opportunity to play on a good NHL team

i won't speak to the rags game but i watched him pretty close against seattle (live) and I thought he looked like shit. Half-assed efforts. Weak soft passes that were getting picked off. Soft on his assignments.

Don't know how we came up with such a different perspective on the same game.

He's definitely been their top D the past 2 games.

Sanderson undoubtedly that guy normally/vast majority, but the past 2 Chabot has been the best we've had, very good defensively and tilting the ice completely while he was out

Look at Bondra rocking the game score impact cards
It adds up completely to what I watched, posting as someone saw something completely opposite of that, which is absolutely fine and valid

I think it was obvious that Sanderson/Hamonic have been struggling and Chabot/Jensen have been outstanding the past 2, though watching live and focusing on a guy can obviously bring a different conclusion with some bias and fixation effects.

They correlate with the eye test
