If the Oilers acquired even James Reimer (which would cost like maybe a 4th round pick), I bet he would eventually take the starter's net away from Skinner.
Dude is making peanuts in Buffalo and no spring chicken, but he honestly is probably still a better goalie than the 2 guys we have here. Pickard is an AHL goalie and Skinner is very marginally better at best if at all with worse athletic ability than Pickard (Picks has faster reflexes and lateral movement).

There isn't a chance season ticket holders would be selling their tickets for a Stanley Cup Finals game
That's the only reason they're are so many Leafs fans in the stands the 1 time they come because season ticket holders milk then for every penny.

Management has yet to deliver this team a championship. Simple as that. Goaltending is a hot topic around these parts but they seem content to let it ride. Firing Dustin Schwartz would be a step in the right direction. The Klingbergs and Kapanens of the world aren’t going to move the needle.
Even putting stats aside, the fact that basically all his stats all below average this year and his win loss record is mediocre and his record against good teams in terrible, from the eye test can anyone really say
1.) His game has matured this year? (ie: you feel he's more steady in net versus last year or the year before). I would say the answer is no.
2.) Are the weaknesses in his game (slow athleticism, poor lateral movement, often times poor puck tracking) improving? Again I would say no.
3.) Is he making like more high danger saves/outstanding saves this year versus previous years? Again I would say no. He has his moments here and there, but largely it's the same ol', same ol' with this guy.
I don't think that's a minority opinion on this board or for anyone who's watched him play this year. He took the experience of being in a Cup Final and instead of becoming better for it is just basically stuck in the same tier.
He's not improving his game, didn't come into camp in any better of shape, etc. etc. I don't think he'll ever overcome his lack of athletic ability, it's a hard limit on how good he can be in this league.

Nah man. HFOil has become pretty clueless. He's absolutely right. Every goal that goes in someone is whining and crying to fire the goalie or the coach. It's literally believed that EVERY goal is due to bad goal tending and every goal we score is deserved or a high skill play or shot

Expecting Spec, of all people, to understand something is really the problem. He might be dumbest Edmonton sports reporter in history, at least for those that made it to a relatively large stage. He is beyond stupid and has no concept of almost anything. He is a clickbait journalist with no understanding of the game whatsoever.
Every normal stat, every advanced stat, and every eye-test, tells you that Skinner is a below average tender. Anybody who doesn't see this is being willfully ignorant, or really is just ignorant.

Trade Not My Fault already. Maybe Pittsburgh so he can be reunited with his best bro Vinny. Literally any other goaltender is better. I don’t know how this guy made the NHL, I knew he was poo ever since his debut in January 2021 when he was .868 versus a hapless Sens team that was 1-6-1. He will be the reason the Oilers won’t win the Cup for the third straight season.
And don’t give me this nonsense about blaming Draisaitl or the freaking Conn Smythe winner for not scoring in an extremely tightly-contested game 7 especially after doing most of the legwork just to get to that point, that was a garbage winning goal to give up even though they should have scored on that glorious chance right before.
If he wasn’t so putrid against the Canucks that series is done in 5, 6 at the most. Which would have been beneficial for the subsequent rounds.

Did you see the 4th goal? Skinner went for a poke check, whiffed on it and the puck went through his legs. Shit you see in beer league. Marner barely had control of the puck. That’s the kind of stuff he does that winds up in losses. Some of the saves Woll made at the other end were some great stops.
For a guy who is 6’4, Skinner sure gets beat clean up high a lot and is slow as f***. Had Pickard played last night, that’s a W for the Oilers. He’s way quicker and seems more focused in the net, whereas another poster said Skinner is dancing to the arena music.
The stats don’t lie, Skinner is not a good goalie.

Our D has to clean up the front of the net and tie guys up but he also needs to make the saves.
You think it will be easier in the playoffs for our forwards. Vegas will roll over us with their size and quality D if Skinner doesn't out perform Hill.

He is a good 1B and Pickard is a good 1C. You don't win cups with that. They have to address it or we are not getting out of our conference this year and maybe not even the division.

Yes we made it to game 7 of the cup finals. But he didn't win us a single series. And although I don't blame the game 7 loss on him, the cup winning goal is one he should have had. The fact we went down 0-3 with him sporting a .882, .893 and .826. I get it, the team didn't play well in games 1 and 2. Game three though? How many times do we just need "one more save".
You can't logically defend the guy. I like him, but he can't be "our guy". He just isn't good enough.

Exactly this. How many times did we yell for a good goalie then we sort of forced Koski out (who actually may have won us a game or two against the Avalanche but who knows) and then got Smith thank god, for us to Campbell it up. Skinner has no chance to get better he's so in his own f***ing head he thinks his team is REALLY practicing against him hard or something but then is surprised other teams have much, much, MUCH better shooters than us and therefore he NEVER gets better as we have NO ONE TO PUSH HIM. Dustin is a f***in scrub he couldn't coach me to be shit let alone anyone who came in through our organization.
