You don’t but they also knew even with a healthy Svech scoring was still missing when patches went down. It’s a big gamble to assume nobody else is gonna get hurt

A season ending injury to a core player is a fluke thing. It’s not practical to try to anticipate something like that.

I would have liked to see them do something. The collapse of the Staal line offensively was predictable and they didn’t have a meaningful backup plan for it. I’ll give them some flak for that. The top of the lineup injuries, that’s just bad luck.

Maybe the Canes will be the beneficiary of the poor injury luck of another team in a future year.

overall the PP hasnt sucked year after year, it hasnt even sucked this year.

Yeah, it has. The only thing that's keeping it out of the dumpster of the league rankings is a 2 game stint immediately after acquiring Ghost.

Then he had his first practice with the team on the PP and it's been complete shit since.

I mean, most of us were pissed off at the deadline. I guess it’s just a matter of how you are coping with that. I don’t expect to win a Cup which sucks but I am almost never expect to win a Cup. Doesn’t mean we cannot make a run to ECF. It what it is.

The "usual moneypuck" was getting Meier. Come on.

Ghost and Pool are depth at best, but how did the team go lower when Svech went down?
I was talking about my interest waning or going lower when he went down. And yes, scouring the garbage bin at the deadline is our usual moneypuck.

Our best deadline business was in 2020 with acquiring Skjei and Trocheck. But other than winning the play in against a bad Rags team, we got annihilated by Boston so I guess our front office gave up on that style of deadline acquisitions and prefer to dumpster dive these days.

outside of the time the entire team couldnt score for a month, we have been top 10. that is how bad that 4 week stretch was. so no it hasnt been that bad.

I feel for them but the PR spin at the trade deadline was that the players "liked the group, too" and didn't want big changes to the line up. It's perplexing to me while watching your opponents supplement their line ups with helpers ( big names and journeymen).

This team with Svech was still a top contender. They were outshooting Detroit like 80-27 at one point in this game. They know as well as we do that when they play their system and get reasonable PDO, they beat anyone in a playoff series. With that level of confidence and chemistry, ”help” from the front office isn’t necessarily welcome.

Svech going down changed the calculus. Not just from a scoring standpoint but also from a chemistry and lineup standpoint. Remember what he did to Lindholm in the playoffs? We won’t be getting that this year.

That was a gut punch loss. We are so lost right now it’s not even funny. No scoring from our top forwards that should be able to chip and score in killing us. Ya we work hard, but that only gets you so far when your skill players don’t score. Sad. Season had so much promise and now here we are.

Well guess some of the guys are going to get a chance to represent their countries at the world championships I guess.
At some point the coaching must be questioned. Do they have an extra gear for the playoffs if they don't seem to have one now?

Call someone up from Chicago that is deserving of a chance and give them a damn look what good is hoarding all these prospects if they aren’t ever gonna play in the nhl
yep, or hell even give Stromwall a callup and see if there's maybe something there. Not like we can't afford it given that we passed on any major additions at the deadline leaving a good bit of cap space. Even if he proved to be a 50 foot player that is only useful when someone in the top 6 is injured, THAT'S EXACTLY THE SITUATION WE ARE IN TO TRY A GUY LIKE THAT OUT

Call anyone up so martinook and pulju are nowhere near the top 6. We need any type of offence we can get so giving stromwall Rees or ponomarev a look can’t hurt

I’m not trying to defend their philosophy overall. I’d like to see more aggressiveness generally and perhaps this experience scars them into it in the future.
getting our asses absolutely handed to us by the Isles or Rangers in the first round might wake them up. Sadly that's only a "might". I can legitimately see them going "well if we had Patches and Svech we win the series and make the conference finals" and not changing a damn thing about how they approach the deadline philosophically while everyone else in the conference that's worth a shit loads up yet again next year.

How do you say beat anyone in a playoff series when they don't have great records against true contenders or even the better teams in the East? All of the "it's just one game" talk when they lost at the time does not look so great now when you look at the bigger picture re: the season.

2 of the summer pickups played what 6 games in total? How was that addressed? They never give any of the AHLers besides goalies any chance to get any experience that might come in handy now - especially when at the deadline you're laying an egg or paying lip service to the whole thing year after year. Excuses aplenty but other teams somehow manage to deliver.
