Did you watch the game? The worst call in the game came in favor of the Oilers and when Maurice was asked about it on the bench, he implied on national television that the NHL reffing conspires against them

There are no "optics". It's nothing more than a poutty sentiment that EVERY fanbase uses..literally every fanbase

Yeah that Ratboy penalty was ridiculous. I hate the player more than any other player in the league, the entire family are trash-level-humans in fact, but that was not a penalty, lol. He was sliding after losing his footing, what we he supposed to do? Terrible call.

At least Pronger isn't going to demand a trade this time...

Drai might though..... well, not demand trade, but he might force a trade by not signing long term, so kinda the same.

I thought Carolina played well that year, and losing Roloson right away really took a lot of the pain away for me.

You know me, Mr. Always-Be-Positive around here. I didn't expect to feel so mad though. I guess despite knowing never to think a team has it, I really honestly believed it was going to be one of those historic sports moments people see once in their lives. Never expected Florida to pull it out after game 6.

Maybe I'm mad at my own brain.
Somehow this makes sense today. Not much does yet. I'm scrambled eggs brains over here after last night. f***, slept only two tossing hours. Didn't think this would take that much out of me but it did. I did a good job of keeping cool until adrenaline hit last 10mins of the game. At that point my body was full alert mode. Tense and nervous, can't relax. doesn't often happen to me anymore.

I've made this same assertion. for the bolded reason and for retaining McD we need to get the Drai contract done. I was a bit curious though on McD's comments on the Nuge contract and him taking a home town discount for benefit of team. Sure Nuge did that but thats a different ball of wax and Nuge didn't overplay his longterm 6m buck deal.

McDrai will know they could make the most money of anybody in league. So hard to know how this all shakes down. I can't even figure out whether a SC W last night makes resigning both more, or less of a possibility. You just never know unless you are in the players heads.

If I had to guess from what I know they both stay here. But at what price and then how does that impact us for Bouchard contract?
There are a lot of variables, including the rising cap. It might not be a big concern for us at all if the cap continues to climb and they both sign long term at 14M and 15M each or something like that.

Bouchard also might end up on the block at some point, simply to save money. I hope not, but of the three, he would be the one to move on from.

This is a total aside but I have a personal story to this...

When Nuge was going to be UFA that summer, him and Connor and Ennis were at my golf course before free agency and they had played 36 and were pretty banged up. They were at the table next to us and Connor was yelling at Nuge about how good he is and how he "shouldn't take 1 dollar less than what he was worth". Was just funny hearing McD yelling this at Nuge.

Was even funnier seeing Connor trying to carry 2 golf bags to the car lol

Ah yes, their round at the P club. We were all hoping to get close to them on the course to hear their banter.

A lot of people think McDavid and Draisaitl are good for another 8 years or something.

They've peaked. Wear and tear on especially on a big, heavy guy like Draisaitl has Clarkson written all over it. Of course Draisaitl is way more capable of making plays with the puck, but the idea of him playing the brand of hockey he does and being able to maintain that for even another few years is unrealistic.

He's no Joe Thornton who stayed healthy and played a far less heavy game who was able to produce the same til 36 or so with minimal wear and tear, pure cerebral game. Draisaitl makes a lot of his plays happen bouncing guys off of him and fending them off to create space. That physicality and size combined with quickness won't be there much longer. Like you mentioned he never got that top end speed back and who knows what other injuries are piling up.

Offering him a 14x8 or whatever they're about to do is surely a recipe for disaster, but we have no other choice. I expect we've got two or three MAX cracks at the can left. These guys are already past their prime with no Cup to show for it. Ovi eeked a Cup out at 33 while already falling off the face of the earth. A lot is going to have to go right for this group the longer time goes on. Harder and harder.

Draisaitl has been a warrior for the club and played some incredible hockey, but people telling themselves he can keep this up after the style of hockey he plays are out to lunch. We might see a big drop off as soon as next season.
had to log into my account after months to reply to the dumbest comment ive seen.

I mean good lord, this has to be a troll lmao. Sid, mack, so many players play like this? Drop off next season? Remember when Crosby was 27-28 and was "washed?" Oh... he won two cups in a row after...

Interesting. Unfortunately that speaks to the more likely mercenary world of getting the biggest pay pro sports. I'd worry if that is Mcd's mindset.

Really the NHL can't even pay McD what he should be worth. He's a poster boy top player in the world, the most marketable persona of any superstar, handsome, intelligent, If any league could build out around a player its McD. He's the Michael Jordan and the NHL is missing lunar entry entirely. Not even in orbit.

Will take a while to get over this, really hurts. I guess the hockey gods said, enough with the miraculous comebacks, it's time to get back to reality. The big lesson for this team should now be, don't yourself into all these holes and use up valuable energy digging your way out. Makes for good story book /fairytale stuff once in a while, but can't be the way forward if we are to have future success.

Need to also remember that after the loss in 2006, everyone was jacked about what we could be in future years with a great goalie performance and a stud HOF defenceman in Pronger, a Selke winner in Peca, etc, etc. And then it rapidly fell apart and collapsed, and eventually turned into the now infamous "Decade of Darkness".

Not saying this will follow suit, but you never know. McDavid could win 3 cups in the next few years. Or this could have been his best shot. We're going to need some really solid trades/signing and some way to get out of some crap contracts, but will be interesting nonetheless!

Really tough ending. Feared a repeat of the script from 2006 after they tanked the first half of the series when they started coming back in the series, and it ended up playing out like that. Momentum and comebacks don't matter much in a winner takes all game 7, and another team's home ice advantage is tough to overcome.

Hopefully both the players and oiler executives have a good offseason and they can hit the ground running in the fall. This team really needs to get off to a good start and win the division next year, starting on the road and spotting opponents an extra home game every series after the first round when you have the most supportive building in the league is just dumb.

Well, Fak, unfortunately we didn't leave any room for error going down 0-3. But the comeback was almost legendary, we just needed a couple of goals, even one more probably would have sunk the Panthers. They seemed defeated already, mentally, they couldn't get it done. Even their interviews they seemed guilty, even Tkachuk, he knows he stole one and he didn't contribute much to it. He wanted to trash Edmonton with his Calgary fans comment and sounded even more douchy.

If we can't sign the new big three, I'm not too confident with the depth we will have next year.

If anything, hopefully this shows Connor, Leon and Bouch that to really set us up to win that they should each take a slight haircut on their next deals. Hopefully the new GM starts reshaping this team in a hurry because it's time to move some guys out for upgrades.
When Darnell nurse takes 9+, nobody will take a discount. You can't just take a discount and trust that management will spend it wisely. Look at Campbell. 5 million just parked

And honestly fuk the Panthers. I'm shocked that team made the finals two years in a row. Nobody on that team stood out. People suck off Tkachuk he was a ghost.

Bob was the only impressive player overall. He saved their asses

I hope somebody Matt Cooke's Tkachuk next year. Him or bennett

So apparently Ratf*** gave a shout out to his fans in Calgary after the game “you know I wouldn’t let Edmonton win” or some shit? I hope someone takes off his head next season. Piece of shit got carried to a Cup. He had a handful of decent games the entire run. Overrated trash tarnishing the Cup with his name

Two years of garbage like him, Bennett, Stone and Pieceofshitangelo (yeah I know his name was on before) getting a Cup makes my nausea for this league deepen
I already know I’ll be watching fewer games in the reg season. I watched less this year than the year before.

Enjoyed the playoff run but this league has become too farcical for regular viewing. The diving is starting to make things even worse. We’ve brought clutch and grab back and now diving is being thrown in. It’s a comical mix. It’s likely a wrong take, but I wonder how in the future this league attracts newer and younger fans. It’s simply not a great sport to watch on most nights unless you are deeply invested in the team you’re watching.

With the growth of esports and the cost of going to games never higher, I wonder how the league will fare over the next 10-20 years. I know people say “Bettman has grown the league”. I guess on paper sure. But the league has a rank stench for years. And shitty markets are propped up by strong ones. That Florida building was empty 6 years ago. Could hear a pin drop.

Oilers will always be my team but with a wife and now a young daughter, I just see my priorities moving elsewhere. I hope in my lifetime I can see the team win a cup. I’m 40 now. There are no guarantees. I saw them win in 1990 but I was five and couldn’t appreciate it.

No, next year we are going to be a year older, and a year worse. The core of our team is old, with RNH, Hyman, Ekholm and Kane all getting firmly into the "large reduction in production" years. Holloway and Broberg aren't going to replace that by themselves. This team will 100% be worse next year, no doubt in my mind. McDrai could theoretically take them on a cup run again if they are healthy, as they are that good by themselves, but the team around them won't be as good.

This team will be a top 5 team in the league next year.
