Sleeping on it didn't help. This f***ing hurts. For so many reasons. So many what if's in this series. It's so so hard to just get back to the finals and nothing is guaranteed for next year. I understand why some people are excited/hopeful for next season but I can't help but feel they pissed away the best chance they'll ever have.

I, obviously, hope I'm wrong. And I'm probably being way too negative right now, but I can't help but feel this was a wasted opportunity and who knows if they get back here again.

f***.

Thanks to those who are staying positive about next year. I am leaning on y'all to get me through this. I am not well.

This run could pay huge for skinner. He’s has shown his ability to improve and I’m hopeful we will see a much better version of him.
That's the positive I see. Him and others got massive experience in big pressure situations

God that loss hurt.

That's what I kept telling my wife. It took almost 20 years to get back here and the path changes every year. Raises coming up. Path could be tougher.

Yep. As much as people shit on him here, this is only his second season in the league and he has already established himself as a solid 1A goaltender at the age of 25. There is a very realistic chance he hasn't hit his ceiling yet, as most goaltenders don't when they're that young, and he could just develop into a bull blown starter.

If there is goaltending help coming, it's not to replace him. He is going to be the guy here, and certainly deserves the shot.

So I will be 80 years old next time the Oilers play for a cup?

Man, you really know how to kick a guy in the junk, virtually.

I don't think this is the end. I think there's a pretty clear path forward. Buyout Campbell for sure. Use the cap savings to upgrade on Ceci. None of the big dogs in the west will be better next year. Dallas is the only team I can see potentially beating the Oilers if they play well. Vegas is fading. Colorado has dead cap with Nicushkin now. Vancouver is going to lose guys.

When Darnell nurse takes 9+, nobody will take a discount. You can't just take a discount and trust that management will spend it wisely. Look at Campbell. 5 million just parked

And honestly fuk the Panthers. I'm shocked that team made the finals two years in a row. Nobody on that team stood out. People suck off Tkachuk he was a ghost.

Bob was the only impressive player overall. He saved their asses

I hope somebody Matt Cooke's Tkachuk next year. Him or bennett
As for the bolded part, Well we had the specialist to do it, unfortunately he couldn't play

I was 24 the last run. 42 now. Might be about 60 for the next one lol. I can't even imagine watching this team past the McDavid Era lol

I really wish that God could just make me stop caring about hockey sometimes

I'd like to know more about the psychology of the game. The Panthers were completely demoralized and on the ropes, but gave it their all. The Oilers urgency was just not there for whatever reason, we've seen so many times this year. The Oilers had a great advantage but needed a better start to keep them on the ropes. They came out absolutely flat and Florida realized that they could pull it off at that point.

Ive sometimes wondered about either having a second team or just watching hockey to enjoy the sport.
This was the second real run of my entire life and I was born right after we won our last cup. My entire life has been failure with 2 runs. I also can't even imagine watching this team past the McDavid era. I probably will but man is it hard.

By then there will be 52 teams. This was the last chance I think.

It’s ok to be frustrated my friend. We were so close.

summer comes and the feelings will fade. If we can keep mcdrai together and the gm can make some solid moves our window is still very much open for a good chunk of time.

Remember some of the recent moments, where Crosby lost him his first Stanley. Only to come back and win it.

The stories have been written and it’s possible for us.

The love for the team is real. And it’s ok to be pissed. Just try to keep it in perspective. It was still a fantastic ride (even though the ending was gut wrenching)

Connor won’t be satisfied with this. Believe in these guys

Maurice said it. They had to lose 3 to learn to win 4.
Florida had nerves being 1 win away from the cup. But they were able to overcome them by failing 3 times in a row.
This was Edmontons FIRST chance of actually winning the cup and the nerves go to them like they did Florida. But Florida had the advantage of working out those nerves over 3 games.

You likely will still watch but the perspective will change as we get older. Age does weird things. Hard for your team not to be your team, but after years and years of watching I think most people change how they choose to consume the sport. And even in losses learn how to enjoy the journey more

Really? I was disgusted that a Bettman deep south team won the cup in 06 beating us. Saw it as yet another tarnishing of Lord Stanleys Trophy. Now another one, to a deeper south team. Sickenng we had the fate of losing to both deep south Bettman type clubs. Adds salt to injury in my mind.
That's nothing, wait till UTAH wins the Cup before us in the Buttman's years

McDavid is 27 in his first cup final, will be 28 soon.
Gretzky was 22 when he lost his first cup final and 23 when he won it all. 4 cups by he was 28
Lemieux won his first cup at 25, second at 26.
Crosby was 20 when he lost his first cup final, 21 when he won his first cup, He won his second 2 at 28/29 but he was on a team friendly deal to do so.

These lessons are learned much earlier in their careers than McDavid is now. 2 of them were pre cap as well.

This is the most important offseason in McDavids career. This group as it is now probably can't make it back (we can't ignore everything that happened in the playoffs to get us here) so they have to have a great offseason to set us up better.

I can't imagine being such a sad, pathetic, worthless human being, having *so little* going on in my own life, that I would barge onto the board of a team that just lost a nail biter in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Crowing in the cesspool that is the mainboards isn't enough, you just had to f***ing come in here and do it too. I don't even have the words.

7 min left in the 2nd Drai clearly gets his legs chopped down while we were on the cycle for 2 minutes straight, no call, then Florida scores 2.5 min later. Then all 3rd Florida gets away with everything.

Shows how bad their team is. This guy or girl took time out of their day to crap post here. First round losers
I honestly think he was shitting on his team a bit but said it horribly.
I read it as, "I can't even imagine the pain of losing of losing in game 7 of the cup finals cause my team has never been close, but I am glad you guys have a team that could even get you there."

The part where Draisaitl has been injured for over a month is the part you seem to keep forgetting.

I’ll regret not going/not being able to go.
But what is life but not a long series of regrets lol.
Another poster that shits on Draisaitl any chance he gets.
