Bobs has the 2nd goal that beats Skinner last night. That's just a fact. Was always gonna be an insanely tight checking game 7 and he can't let that one in. Lose the cup because of a weak shortisde goal (played horribly by Kulak, too).

f*** sakes. This hurts.
Yep. Think about the degree of difficulty and nature of plays the Oilers have to generate to score against Bobo. Spectacular plays, spectacular finishes. 2nd goal was just a routine 75mph shot from the wing that wasn't screened. A goalie has to be able to make that save on a shot that was just filtered in. Skinner decided he was going to go blockform strickly on that one and hope it hit him. He didn't even move. He didn't even move on a shot going 75mph. If it was 95mph I could see it being unstoppable. But this particular shot was stoppable, and was unscreened, and was clearly going to be a shot. Nothing prevented Skinner from coming further out or being big in net instead of making himself small in crouch.

When Skinner is good he's using his size effectively and he's making some reaction stops with blocker an glove. For some reason on that one he misread and put priority on not opening up, on a shot that wasn't going to be hitting him.

I feel the pain for all the younger fans here that haven't seen a cup. I can deal with this but it just sucks that we would have had a cup by now with any better goaltending.

Friedman and Marek sound more pro Florida
Even Allanis Morrisette, a Canadian, seemed to be pro Panthers, pro US and belting out the US anthem after a pretty meh Canadian Anthem rendition. Still looks like a freak. Worst make up job ever.

This just an aside but seems like the Oilers for home games could go a little deeper on production value effort and presentation. Florida had recording artists come in and do anthems, had Honor guard, had WW vets heros coming in, Had celebs banging the ceremonial drum.

Oilers. Turn on Metallica and the lights and hope to win to get to play La Bamba. Its about it.

Strange that in a non hockey market they do more to kind of salute the game even before puck is dropped.

I mean is it surprising that the hockey market focuses on the fans and the game, whereas a sun belt team uses all the bells and whistles to attract fans? The US military stuff is a carryover from when American sports organizations were being paid to promote the military as part of their recruitment efforts (they still might be getting a cheque?).

Focuses on the game? The Oilers rink entertainment is almost nothing about the game. Silly things on jumbotron.

The Panthers take the time to respect the fans, the community, its hero's etc before the games. Just seems like a better thing to be doing. For instance they were getting these War Veteran hero's out every game. We have them here too, and they'd be glad to attend.

Canadian team NHL history, as well as American team history has lots of player veterans that served in wars and most notably in WWII as you'd know. Why not salute that heritage?

Lots of slash, slash, hook, hold, dive, rinsing and repeating... I wonder how much Campbell was whispering in the league's ear. This will always go down for me, with an asterisk due to the GLARING conflict of interest with FLA management.

The Panthers was the first losing team to make it back the next year since Pittsburgh did it in 08/09

Ok well that's not what you said. Lol. You said it's hard to make it back to back. In the last 17 Stanley Cup Finals, there has been a back to back appearance 9 times.

It was done in 23/24 by the panthers, 20/21/22 by the Lightning, 16/17 and 08/09 by Penguins.

Was rooting really hard for you all. I have followed McDavid's career since the beginning and the Oilers are the only other team I watch closely on a nightly basis.

Your fanbase was much more deserving than Florida's pathetic fanbase. They barely looked excited after they won last night. Half the arena was empty by the time they skated the cup around.

Pathetic.

Oilers fans are true hockey fans, not those fairweather wannabes in south florida.

Hold your head up high, and thanks for an entertaining season/post-season. McDavid is the GOAT. You guys will be back!!!!

Its amazing how several in here think the Oilers didn’t bring the effort last night, how the top guys were not giving their all. Give me a fu**ing break. Again, no credit ever seems to go to the other team. Florida had a game plan and executed, they shut the top guns down. It happens, every one of these guys are human and not invincible. Florida made the finals last year, competed for the Presidents trophy, knocked out the Presidents trophy winner, made the finals again and won in 7. Great team. We did beat them 3 games in a row but guess what, they were not the only team to lose 3 straight in the series.

How 33% say this the season was a failure is mind boggling. I know people are butt hurt but geez. And those moaning about Drai and seem to be content with him walking, we don’t even get past the second round without him. Maybe struggle to make the playoffs. Effort was not the issue. They just lost a close game to a team that played better on the night.

Doesn't happen at all coming out of the WC. all the repeats are from the East. Since cap its rare. No WC team has repeated going to cup over last 15 seasons.
1999/2000 Dallas stars did after their win. Last WC to make it back right after a loss was the 88/89 Oilers.
Like you said the west doesn’t really see that happen. The west is usually one and done it takes a few to find a way back.

Depends on your measure or failure. By most it’s a success. By the bar the team and players set “Cup or Bust”. It is.

The sad part is I believe the refs were going to make sure that Florida had every chance to get the business of the SC last night. There was a trip on Drai behind the Florida net that would be called 10 out of 10 times in the regular season, unlike the Foegle penalty. The 10 American (non-snowbird) fans will be excited. It maybe won't even make the paper down there. Its going to be extremely difficult for McDrai to win one in Canada.

Skinner got us to game 7 of the Final and people still want to nail him to the cross. They scored 2 goals in their losses in Florida.

Guess what? A better goalie isn't coming.
He just got traded last night.

If the Oilers can carry largely the same team into next season with a few small tweaks, they will be in a very strong position to do so.

The core is not young, but not old enough to start getting worried. Skinner turned his game around significantly after being yanked in Van. Holloway and Broberg emerged and will likely allow the Oil to move out $$ in the form of Kane/Ceci/Kulak.

Extend Draisaitl ASAP and you likely extend McDavid. They got 8+ more cracks at this thing. Look at the absolute pain Capitals fans went through for more than a decade of Ovechkins career before they finally put it all together.

At some point, this team is going to get through a post season with its stars healthy and pull it off. They came within a shot or two this year with many of them banged up.

Was a heck of a ride, was a great run, but at the end of the day it’s just that, a run. Years past you could say the top players had no help from the depth, this year is the opposite, the depth players were let down by the top players. Completely pathetic performance by our top guns in what might be the only shot they get at a cup…
Sorry but reading stuff like this frustrates me.
The top guys have been spectacular for this organization for almost a decade, pretty much the only reason they've been relevant at all for the most part, Draisaitl actually set the tone in Game 6 with a stellar 1st period and the team rolled from there then there was a Game 7 on shitty ice on the road which was a super intense grind against an excellent defensive team in which the guys pushed really hard but just couldn't make that final touch to get the puck over the line and here you guys are calling them pathetic. Sorry but these are pathetic comments, to be frank. These guys, all the guys on this team, deserve our respect for how hard they battled and getting so close to the finish line.

Half the Arena was empty because those were Oilers fans not sticking around to see the wrong club hoist the cup, Just saying. heh

Oilers fans travel well and made up half the crowd in game 7. Even go to hear some Oilers chants.

Once McDrai get extended that’s pretty much the end of our cup chances unless we start drafting incredibly and the cap explodes.
8 more chances? No. More like 1/2

Its June 24th. The team has just finished playing a ridiculous 107 game season. In last 3 seasons Oilers have played a shit load of hockey. Its a hard sport to repeat in and teams from West just don't get there the next year. Often teams have a hangover season after this long a run.

Team has only 2mths off and its time to start thinking about Captain Skates again. (please don't do that again team) I hope the Oilers take as long off as possible but even 3mths off isn't enough offseason.

Especially with the injuries they are bound to have.
McDavid apparently needs surgery.

Good thing the Pacific division is terrible.
Okay that gets us to the 3rd round. Thats not the cup final. And Vegas will be much better this coming year unless they get hurt again.
