They have 6 wins, 3 in a shootout. Let's not label this team as "good" just yet. I love how they are playing. Love what we are seeing out of some of the young guys, put need to pump the brakes a bit. Lundqvist started like this last season, too. Fell apart after the Winter Classic.

I'm kind of on the fence moving Hayes. He's 26--he's not a 30+ year old guy like Nash, Holden, Grabner or even Zuccarello. That should be kept in mind. Depending on how his year goes--depending on cap $'s/term. But he should have a bunch of good years still ahead of him.
The other dependent things are what you would get back for him. A second half of the first round pick--I don't know if that's enough.

Henrik has been better than usual in the beginning of a season - he steal games for sure.
Many people do, and Im still trying to figure out why, especially with a roster as bad as this one.

Because they all feel that it is they who should be in Quinn's position of bench boss.
Quinn like to win games so he give ice time based on day to day performance like Nam who was on the 4th line, but he has been better recently and awarded him with top 6 line minutes in the last games with some success. So the coach don`t necessary give ice time based on talent level as many on this forum want him to do concerning player development, because he is trying hard to win games and get most out of the current roster.

Visit any GDT to see how its mismanaged. I'm not the only one who has said it. Seriously, every Rangers thread is littered with responses in regards to it. I just read an article on BlueShirtBanter about how he is detrimentally impacting Chytils development based on his use of him and that's just one of many examples.
Take a look at our teams advanced stats... and people are going to say this is a good hockey team because Lundqvist steals games and helps make us look competitive?

Seriously? You are pointing to team wide metrics and using it as evidence? First of all, who is saying that this is a good hockey team? Second of all, have you seen this roster? Have you seen the shape of the defense? What did you expect the metrics to look like? Do you think that if Babcock was behind the bench the metrics would somehow be different?
This is a thread labeled "This is a good team" with people legitimately praising Quinn. Who is saying that? Look in this thread...
Chytil was mismanaged and can't be sent down now. Why was Namestkinov on the 4th line for as long as he was? Did Quinn expect him to produce there and "earn" his top-6 minutes? Why did Gorton sign a PP specialist in Shattenkirk to have him get 2nd PP line minutes? Why is Pionk getting ice time like he is Drew Doughty? Why isn't Pionk held accountable for egregious errors? Why does Skjei get a pass every time he makes brutal defensive mistakes? Why is Buchnevic constantly held accountable (effort, when there are no stats that genuinely measure "effort"). I'm sure you disagree with everything I've said, but from what I have seen this season, this is what I am observing as a fan and it's infuriating. If Lundqvist didn't have one of the best October's of his career and continue his strong play into November we wouldn't be having this discussion. The vast majority of fans would believe "Quinn sucks." But as usual, Lundqvist is the band aid that hides the problems here.

I still think they should’ve given him a longer term deal this summer, but oh well. I still want him moving forward, but I’m also curious what he could yield in a trade. He’s the prototypical big C that teams want for the playoffs, and he definitely helped his case by being AV’s matchup C last year.
Having the clean cap slate over the next 5 years could be huge for us if it’s used properly. If trading Hayes gives us the chance to sign Panarin, then I’ll drive Hayes to the airport.

I think the calls that Quinn is mismanaging Chytil are premature given his handling of ADA, Buchnevich, and Pionk (which many objected to) appears to be working out.

Not going to put words into Gag's mouth, but I think that he was more tongue in cheek as there have been several threads over the years stating "This is a bad hockey team". And if you read the content, who is stating that this is a Cup contender?
Maybe he should have. Maybe Gorton and Quinn have a different plan. Still, his handling does not a complete mismanagement of the roster make.
Because he was not doing what was demanded of him. What Quinn did expect is not so much production but to play the game a certain way. That would earn him his top-6 minutes.

So he should be allowed to be lazy and entitled because a stat can't measure it? This is exactly the reason this is such a hot debate. Who cares if effort is not a quantifiable stat? It is a qualitative stat that is being demanded. Why was he held accountable? Because his play deserved it.
Umm....no, because most of us have signed up and bought into the rebuild. And expect losses. We have lauded more effort.

3) because Pionk has performed above expectations since his rookie year and I wouldn’t trust any dman on this team to play the mins or face the competition Skjei does

IMO the Rangers shouldn't be looking at cap issues for the forseeable future--especially not if Zuccarello, McQuaid (maybe Brendan Smith) get moved at the TDL and if Staal gets bought out next summer. The Rangers will have a shitload of ELC and 2nd contracts then. A 5 year term is where I'd like to go with Hayes--I wouldn't go further than 6--no trade conditions and at about $5.5 mil per.
Hayes is not a huge point producer. He's been a consistent one. He's taken on an all situations job--which is valuable. His size is an asset as far as holding the puck on offense and in all kinds of defensive situations. IMO he's become our best penalty killing forward.
All that said he is tradeable. If we're talking draft picks in this year's draft I'd want more than a late 1st for him though. The other thing is I'd like a better idea of where we are with Chytil, Howden and Andersson--so if I'm moving Hayes I'm thinking not now--more towards the trade deadline when I have a better idea how ready those younger C's are. We might be getting a look at Andersson pretty soon if Howden is going to be out.

Chytil can absolutely be sent down.
Pionk was scratched and worked himself into a prominent role. Buchnevich was scratched, played a lot more engaged, worked to create space for himself and he was behind only Zibanejad and Hayes among forwards in ice time defending a lead in the third.
